Hey guys, so here's the run down:

I'm pretty new to these fantasy footy things, I've been using for just one year now. So about 12 of my mates have got together to make a draft league, and I'm probably the most inexperienced with Super Coach. Anyway, we did a random pick and turns out I got the 1st Pick which is pretty nerve racking especially for a bloke who doesn't really know what he is getting into haha.

So I guess what I'm asking is who to pick first? Brodie Grundy seems like a no-brainer to me, has the highest average and will explode with the new ruck rules this season. But Paddy is a solid midfield choice.

Idk not too sure how to start off the draft, and after the first round, Im not too sure what I'm meant to be looking for in players if that makes sense?
If someone can give me a hand that would be awesome.

Grundy as ruck and Danger as forward are probably the top 2 picks. I'd probably lean towards Grundy, just.

It's really hard to give advice on drafts as each one is very different as it purely depends on what other people are doing.

You can generally leave midfielders a little later as outside the top 6 or so, you can pick up plenty in the 95-105 range. Lots of value picks in defence too so my two priorities would be top ruck and a gun forward with my first 2 picks.

You got to go with your gut pick most times, if forwards are getting lighter and if by your next turn, the last few good ones will definitely be gone, then you should probably get in ahead of others.

It's gotta be Grundy Danger or Gawn.
They are just too far ahead of the other blokes on the same line as them.

You also would want to pick up a captaincy option in the mids (if you are playing with captains enabled), but the midfield has the largest pool of high scoring players so after all the real gun 105+ players are gone it's probably best to start grabbing a decent set of defenders and forwards because there's a lot less viable options on those lines.

Thanks for the help, I think I'll go for Grundy, my favourite player anyway.

These are what I'm hoping to pick for the first 3 rounds:

1. Grundy RUC
2. Josh Kelly MID
3. Jake Lloyd DEF

This is what I project that I'll be picking (with 11 other people in my league) If someone better comes up hopefully I'll be able to nab them instead.

Another question is; should I try stacking up my midfield in the first rounds? or maybe get a Defender like Lloyd earlier on? One thing I've noticed about SC is how low points the Forwards are, barely crack 100 so I'm really only worrying about Defenders and Mids.

For draft purposes, because the forwards drop away sharply, it is exactly where you should prioritise there (and rucks) at least with first few picks. If you miss some of the top guns, you'll be left with crap. Someone who has pick 10, and missed Gawn/Grundy, will probably not bother getting a ruck til very late since rucks 3-10 will average 10 points between them.

On the other hand, there are a plethora of midfielders and there are 30 players who averaged between 95-105 average. So you can afford to slip down the draft more there in the middle stages of the draft for little impact.

Drafts are very much a cost/benefit analysis exercise on the fly.

Really doubt Kelly will last to the second round, and 0 chance Lloyd gets to the third. Really should just go best available for the first few rounds.
I'd recommend going for some strong fwds before defenders, seems like there will be a lot of decent options down back this year.

Oh okay that actually makes a bit more sense then I initially thought.

So with Grundy going as my first, I should try get whatever the top forward is with my 2nd pick? In that case Justin Westoff might be a good pickup with the FWD + RUCK combination.

Pure Hype ..... Pure Trash .... the guy was worse than a seagull last year ....a leopard 🐆 can’t change his stripes in a season ...... NO!!!!!!

CD cookheads. Look at their norrfff elites. Cunninglinguist fair enuf

But Hall?

Daw??

Megahead???

Dumont???? I don't even know who that kent is.

Zero cred

Must be very specific positional inclusions. I.e. Polec would be top 3 in the comp as a winger (although oddly no Gaff or I.Smith named, while Whitfield would definitely be one if he played enough games there), Daw as a defender-2nd ruck (how many of those are there), Hall as an "attacking midfielder with no defensive bone in his body" etc.

Also Seedsman, Smith, Rich, Saad, AMT, Suckling...even Hunter in front of Macrae (CD love child, although my personal opinion is that he is closer to a Rockliff type premo than a Dangerfield/Ablett/Pendlebury type) and the Bont (who is truly one of the most damaging mids if he is played there).

An awful lot of flankers/pockets named to be honest. Bit ridiculous. On top of those named above (all bar Hunter), there's also Laird, Betts, Simpson, Crisp, Fantasia, Menegola, Whitfield, Greene, Williams, Sicily, Breust, Hall, Dumont, Gray, Caddy, Gresham, Lloyd, Hurn...while Edwards, De Goey would also not be considered true mids yet...so there is 26 elite flankers (forward and back), with only 13 elite mids. OK.

It’s definitely the position factor. Daw picking up statistics as a ruckman boosts him against other key defenders

Hall and dumont classed as wings and there’s not a massive amount that are. Hall ran the rough the middle as well which will boost his contested stats compared to a gaff. CD love the contest....Maybe they’re harsh on suspensions though as I thought gaff had got a bit more of his own ball this year
