Nice quote, but I don't think Abe actually said that, he said this:Not sure where to put this but here will do.

Nice quote, but I don't think Abe actually said that, he said this:
"How then shall we perform it? — At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? — Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! — All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.
At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."
You missed the end of the speech.Nice quote, but I don't think Abe actually said that, he said this:

'they failed to put forward an offer that was too good to refuse'.
Was there a realistic chance of luring Grundy back to SA..he seems to intimate the crows had not put together an offer to make him seriously consider it but he mentions the lure to be closer to family was there. Did we miss a beat?

It would have also put the world's biggest target on his back from the SA Media and fans. 1 below AA season and both he and the club would have been torn to shreds!I'm glad we didn't put a huge offer in front of him. Great player, not great timing for us.

Grundy says there was “appeal” to return to his home state to be closer to family, but the two-time All-Australian indicated that even though the Crows were keen they failed to put forward an overture that was too good to refuse. We probably enquired as to what kind of $ would be required and moved on.
Given the year ROB had, i'm not sure it would have been the wisest investment of the salary cap for us.I'm glad we didn't put a huge offer in front of him. Great player, not great timing for us.
Lets be real. Crows were never going to be able to outbid Collingwood for this player considering the 'incentives' in the offing by staying in Melbourne at Collingwood.
Out: Prime Eddie Betts on good not great $$Unfortunately I think this applies to almost all quality players that we try and target.
IIRC the situation with Betts, the only reason we got him is because Carlton were not prepared to match our contract for Betts which wasnt outlandish at the time for the record.
Carlton were instead too busy trying to get Thomas to the Club at the time.
I heard that interview.
