Yet Charles reckons we couldn’t get the best out of him?

That game was an outlier, this board was calling for him to be dropped that year.

I don't think many would argue he hasn't been better at Brisbane.

We chose to focus our forward line around a cooked Betts when had the perfect replacement and our disposal.

Eh, I thought that trying to bring Cameron into the midfield more often wasn't a bad idea.

Betts Jenkins Jacobs MacKay Douglas Otten to lesser extent would have to free up $1.5m in cap.
BCrouch, Brown and Milera only players in next 2 years requiring reasonable contracts.

How refreshing would it be to be linked to a genuine line breaking outside mid.
Like the one Gibbs was meant to be.
You still need to use that 1.5 to back fill 6 players you realise. Can't just spend it all on 1

Exactly.

It's not a case trading out as many players as possible to get as many draft picks as possible... rather trading out player we don't think will be part of our future best 22 for a flag rebuild. This includes if they may keep a younger player out.

This makes Keath a keeper imo. He is not keeping Doedee out.

Players we should be considering for trade are Jenkins, Jacobs, Lynch, Hartigan, Greenwood, Atkins & Laird.

This will give us enough picks for a refresh.

I also feel that we shouldnt look at only this draft to pounce on.

If we are trading out players, we should really be looking at getting future picks as well, ie 2020 draft as it will take multiple drafts to assemble a list that can strongly compete eventually in September. The kids we have know can set a solid foundation and there is enough experience on our list even with the changes you have suggested so as to not hurt us, ie we have enough mature bodies so that the kids are not rag dolled.

I also would like us to go after SA kids from other Clubs, the Eagles have the blueprint of how an interstate side can win the flag against massive odds.

Jenkins Betts, Sauce on $500k each
Douglas MacKay $400k each
Not sure Otten but wouldn't be much.
So $2.5m total
4 draft picks $100k each leaves $2.0m. I was being conservative

We are rebuilding not tanking. Keep the right players and give our talent a chance and we could go ok.

I agree with that. I highly doubt Keath is the right player to keep though seeing he's 27, and so far has only had one good year at this level. Especially when we have Talia anchoring the defense as is.

You always must have plans to get talented players in the side and Butts has shown enough in the SANFL this year for fast tracking to be a worthwhile venture. Also if you want to regen a list quickly, you have to be willing to part with some decent but expendable players. Keath definitely fits that bill.

Yes correct. They say less is more. Keep it simple.
An individual will give it from their position 99% of the time. That's why I found that interesting. Two points in contradiction, too much twisting.

Although I was going off the post, I didn't listen to Charlie's words.

To go another way....Was he actually saying the game plan sucked as a forward? Couldn't use his natural flair?
We all know now our game plan sucks and is boring as bat s**t, could we read that into it?

Not at all. It would have sucked all life out of Charlie because he was our Puopolo. We had Betts + 4 tall forwards to cover the offense and just needed a hard running aggressive player to just keep the defensive components ticking over.

I can see your thought process, and there's components I agree with .....but youth coming in, will improve quicker in a winning side than a bottom 4 club

Apart from some hype .....Butts offers no guarantees .....there's also no guarantees we draft a great KPP this year & he's ready by 2022.....Keath I think can play till then

A 2nd round pick in this draft is questionable .....but understand your logic

Absolutely Butts doesn't. Just that he's shown enough to make this path worthwhile to follow. Keath also doesn't offer the guarantee of not being a one season wonder. After all Doedee coming back will change Keaths role up somewhat significantly, and Lever acts as a great warning about role changes with a looser KPD.

I doubt we have the potential to really kick out of 10-12th next year regardless so it's a suck fat year whilst the next generation start to build together. May as well use it to make the process quicker (also part of the reason I actually like the mature rookie/DFA option is it is another roll with that KPD problem).

Just becauae hasnt which is reflected in his stats doesnt mean that he doesnt have the tools to do so....

Je actually has very good concept of forward play, reads the ball well, good hands and has great timing woth his leads

Keath was pre-selected as a 17yo by Gold Coast as a KPF

Hartigan has had a unique view of Keath’s development, having played with him since they were kids.

“I’ve known Keathy for a long time,” he told SEN SA Breakfast.

“We were in the Australian Institute of Sport together 10 years ago and he was probably the best forward I’d played on in junior footy.”

Since he arrived at Adelaide, Hartigan says Keath has managed to take his attacking game to the back line.

It's a real possibility that if Jenkins and Betts are traded we will still be paying part of their salary. I'm okay with that if it means we get a little more coming back our way in a trade on the condition we pay part of their salary.

I don't believe this will happen with Betts, because we are absolutely more than happy to retain him on our list for 2020. Possibly may happen for JJ.

Yeah, agreed. We have ability in our salary cap to count some of Jenkins and Betts wage, and we should do so if it gets us better picks.

I understandthis isn't popular but 'd prefer we trade Taia.
Higher value, cant kick or kickstart rebound,
Wont be here for our next tilt. Is likely to fall off earlier than Keath.
