More likely a 10 - 12 week injury
I Dr google’d it.
It would be acute compartment syndrome developed from a badly bruised muscle. This type of injury can occur when a motorcycle falls on the leg of the rider, or a football player is hit in the leg with another players helmet (NFL). Recovery period 3-4 months.
Tom Morris could be on the money & Gears could be out for the year.

Roos said the one he had was last game of the year and reckons he would've missed 12 games

Gears injury is really bad news for us, Not that he is a great player, he's not, useful roleplayer. But he is our back line general, without runners, players who can organise on field are gold. I think some of our issues last year was due to the loss of experienced players.

Hopefully the fact that we obtained VFL experienced players not 18 year olds will help us out.

Our backline has been absolutely decimated this year.
DMac, White, Marsh and Coff suddenly very important. Hope they can step up like Wilkie, Battle and Paton have.

ETA for Jake, anyone?

Actually have great coverage for that position .

We also have Clavarino as tall defender coming back next couple of weeks.

Look at differently myself ..would Wilkie have played ....No

Would Paton without injury ....No

Really excited what Marsh can offer when gets fitness level , very suprised the level he was at coming from Tigers.

As for White & McKenzie great opportunities await including Joyce another forgotten one who has improved greatly.

For every negative situation that’s arose so far just galvanised playing group even more.

Absolutely, I agree with you.
Great opportunity for other players and, as you say, Paton and Wilkie have already grasped theirs.
Through adversity comes opportunity.

The Geary injury really hurts I reckon. Fair gap between what he brings and what a Dmac or White brings, for mine. Will be watching it closely with fingers crossed.

Though I do think this group now has the tools to overcome the setback in the right way; I think losing their Captain with a war injury will spur them on, hopefully sharpen the collective resolve.

I think if it looks like we will play finals he’ll return in the latter part of the season. If we are cooked by r18 why bother, he may as well finish the year up instead of coming back for the last few weeks.

I don’t think some people appreciate how bad an injury this is. It’s horrific. Gears is one tough bastard.

The players have had set back after setback ans keep putting their heads up.

Back in the RTB bubble and earlier the players would talk about ' when its your turn to go, it your turn to go' mean body on the line.

If the players can't take something from the captains courage and commitment, they probably don't deserve to play finals.

Or in a nutshell, don't be Melbourne

I'm a lover, not a fighter
12 weeks is not the season.
Ripe for finals.

It's potentially an interesting question: if we suddenly have Hanners, Geary, Carlisle available for finals, do we bring them in, or trust the players who got us there?

My natural tendency is to bring them in, but I'd feel bad for the blokes dropped for them.

Its kind of unbelievable. Remember dicking around having Fisher and Delaney injured, and Gwilt and Simpkin being our tallest defenders? Shenton playing the Wilkie roll.
