"Many have been critical of this feeling that the statue should have been placed in a variety of other sites, Moorabbin Oval where he played for the Saints

For Nicky’s statue to take pride of place in the Noongar heartland and next to the ground where a game that is sacred to many Australians, both black and white, means a great deal. The fact is Perth is the right choice.

Because just as the photograph has transcended the realm in which it was taken so too has the statue transcended state borders and tribal footy affiliations.

It’s a statue for all Australians, whether you like footy or not. "

Well said Des.

Honest opinions, does anyone rate the Stkilda podcast with Clair White and Simon Lethlean?
It can sometimes be a bit cheesy, and sometimes a bit too long.

But yes I rate it. I love hearing stuff about our club, even if some of it is carefully managed information.

And one thing's for sure.

If we didn't have it there'd be a lot of fans crying out about the club being left behind in this digital social media age.

Steven a month away from on-field Saints comeback

St Kilda star Jack Steven won't be rushed back in, needing up to a month of training following his return from mental health leave.
Steven hasn't played since early May - his second stint away from the game this year.

The four-time club best-and-fairest winner resumed full-time training with the Saints this week, but coach Alan Richardson says Steven needs to complete a mini pre-season.
While naturally fit, Richardson said he still needed more running and conditioning on the training track and in the gym.

"He's been focusing on getting himself right and that's excluded the sort of training that he'd need to be ready to go," Richardson said on Thursday, ahead of their Saturday afternoon clash with Gold Coast in Townsville.
"He needs a mini pre-season - three or four weeks - and then a bit of VFL footy and then we hope to get him back in the team but we'll just see how he goes."

In more good news following their heavy loss to Port Adelaide in China, where skipper Jarryn Geary suffered a season-ending broken leg, key defender Jake Carlisle will play in the VFL this weekend.
Carlisle had back surgery in March with Richardson excited by his return.
"He's one of the better defenders in the game so for him to get back probably sooner than we thought is a real credit to the way he committed to his rehab," Richardson said.

"We're expecting him to be pushing [for an AFL return] reasonably soon.
"It all depends on how he plays on the weekend and how he pulls up but it's really pleasing to have him back."
Richardson said he would consider playing Carlisle up forward following the emergence of former forward Josh Battle as a defender this season in the absence of Carlisle and Dylan Roberton.
"Given what Josh Battle in particular has been able to do has opened up some options for us," Richardson said.

"Jake has gone forward and kicked eight goals and has taken 20 marks in one game so he has that in him but I really like him as a defender.
"It will be a pleasant problem."
lol at Carlisle going forward, would be interesting if he was there for full games

Former England cricket all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas has moved into the AFL sphere, joining St Kilda as the Saints bolster their player welfare division.

As four-time best and fairest Jack Steven eases his way back to normality at Moorabbin after his latest mental health break, Mascarenhas is settling into a recently acquired role working under St Kilda player development and welfare manager Tony Brown. Former Saint Brown, who played 108 games between 1995 and 2000 - including the 1997 grand final - has been back at St Kilda since 2013...

I used to run into Dimmy a lot during the 00s. Nice, sociable guy. Reckon Warnie had something to do with this appointment, those 2 were joined at the hip back in the day. Probably made the introductions/recommendation.

Good luck to the guy. Hope he does a great job.

Richo on SEN now talking about King.
Had scans immediately. Graft is intact. Also hurt his ankle. Will still be sore for a while.

“Pleasing” it’s not the acl.
( Talk about an understatement - his words)
Max relieved. Was emotional prior to the scans being done. Obviously.

Re debut - Richo says might miss a little footy, not much at all, see how he pulls up. Reality is if they think he’s ready he’ll play, they won’t take an approach where they now need to be extra careful. He was close.

Re Dan. Very close to being picked. He and Jake played pretty well. Free in their movement and looked sharp.
Just wait to see how they pull up.

Long term strategy with Dan seems to have paid off - they didn’t have an alternative bc his body kept playing up. Looks in really good shape now.

Fingers crossed!

Lot of relief after Suns game. Awkward first half. Inability to score in the first half. Looked like a team that travelled to China, came off a bye and made seven changes!Wanted to be in a position half way that we could still qualify. Been a really challenging year, physically and emotionally. Team has fought hard and now given themselves the opportunity but obv needs lots of improvement.

Ripper job by White under duress ( besides goal kicking) Been banging the door down in the vfl.

Mentioned Wilkie, Paton and Marsh as a silver lining.

Never felt sorry for themselves or made excuses. Attitude and endeavour to get things done has been impressive.

More about his KPIs etc but I actually had to get to work!!!

Tried to get that pretty much word for word so hope it makes sense.
