Had a quick look through 360 and on the couch on kayo and didnt see much saints analysis. Did we get any decent review this week that is worth watching. dont know why i bothered with couch. They just talk about how disappointing the demons are just like when we did them at the start of the season.

Last post before I go off air.

Anybody who wants to hear some of the antics of Watters at St.Kilda, listen to the footyology podcast with RoCo and Finey.

Finey gives two mild examples of Watters paranoia while coach.

Tom Lee? FMD

Starts around the 24 minute mark:

The players weren’t allowed to say the name ‘Brendan Goddard ‘ at the club because he publicly shamed Watters calling him the ‘dwarf’ on The Footy Show. LOL.

He was going to strip Nick Riewoldt of the captaincy & appoint Armo & Tom Lee plus others unmentioned. What a whack job.

It sounds like he was an absolute joke at the club.

If making Tom Lee a co-captain is only scratching the surface of some of the baffling things Watters was trying to do, I'd love to know what else happened. Sounds like it was an absolute mad house, we're lucky Roo didn't walk out and go to Collingwood. Guarantee he would have if Watters was there for another minute.

holy s**t!

sounds like when you get a new manager join your company and no one respects him. everyone knows its a failed appointment. then the manager starts to strong arm any opposition, which is literally everyone. in other words you're counting down time until he's sacked. would have been players and coaches, make that all of club, against watters.

the dwarf thing doesn't make the playing group look very good nor watters. just bad all around. i can see why dal isn't proud of it and regrets it.

the nick roo thing paints watters in an extremely bad light. shows literally anyone in the power base didn't like him. no wonder roo wanted to walk. he wouldn't have taken that very well. insulting!

david armitage and tom lee. fmd. only way it could be worse is if tom ledger was vice captain.

Small man syndrome & a complete narcissist. God knows what made him think his actions would be effective. Inflated ego & poor judge is my guess.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the captaincy thing isn’t true, but Roo did say he had/maintains a good relationship with Watters. This whole discussion has been spoken of purely in extremes.

Mark Fine said they were the mild antics.

Reckons he could talk for half an hour on what Watters did.

Some bad s**t by the sounds of it.

Really the people who appointed him, should have gone with him at the same time.
Appalling administration

crazy thing is what if CEO or pelchens mandate to watters was to address their perceived issues within the playing group... to move on the senior players who had the power base and to get the younger guys taking more control of the club.

by the time watters was sacked the pres was gone and the CEO had walked out. summers had taken control of a broken organisation.

finey mentions Thompson, which is very interesting. thompson was not an assistant coach. but he was appointed by Summers to lead a review of the football dept operations in his role as football director. so this thing happened late in watters tenure. when the CEO who appointed him was gone. thompson then was involved in getting richo across if i re-call correctly. he then used up his tenure on the board left at the same time as summers?

if you believe the rumour that the CEO overuled who the committee wanted to appoint in the first place, it makes that thompson comment very interesting as thompson was on the comittee.

it's sounding more and more like the mistake here was appointing a senior coach that no one wanted. the bloke they did want, they didn't give the job too. horrendous really.

Just had a chuckle when reading on the AFL site Brett Ratten's presser from this morning.

His presser was stopped short for a brief moment when raucous shouts were coming from the change rooms......the players had just seen Ming running onto the oval for the first time since surgery.

Great news.

Interesting that he stated Hanners would have been in this week if not for the gastro.

Only coach he didn't thank or even acknowledge the existence of when he retired. He isn't fooling anyone saying they have a great relationship.

Apparently Malthouse told him to go in hard and assert himself. Malthouse is a campaigner so probably just for his own amusement.

The reality is that he stepped into an organisation just after we lost successive GFs and one that had an established senior core of players.

The smart move would have been to engage with this core, explain your plans and explain your philosophy on the game and success.

Whilst his intentions may have been correct in terms of a successful culture etc, it seems his execution was appalling.

By alienating your senior group, he had condemned himself to failure, and it all went to s**t from there IMO.

Bottom line is he wasn't up to it.

On the flipside and to his credit, Richo did the opposite with Roo and he stuck around to help the next gen come through.

Perhaps a more inclusive and less abrasive approach by Scott might have brought about a different outcome.

However it just looks like he didn't have the right tools to become a head coach based on his personality and communication skills.

IMO

I can’t tell you how close you are to nailing the problem with Mr Watters. Great ideas and strategy - can’t / won’t build relationships that are needed to execute.
