half time
GCS 2.6.18
GWS 10.7.67

Best that quarter
Rischitelli 17 possessions, 3 tackles getting his hands on it at stoppages but DE would be low
Scheer 9 possessions, 3 tackles - clearly given a job on Bonar and held the dominant player in the first quarter to just 3 handballs that quarter, both Bonar and Scheer went forward at the end of the half. Had a shot on goal from 40m directly in front early on but missed left.
Nicholls - getting on top of Simpson in the ruck with a number of nice HTA
Young - playing midfield mostly 17 disposals, kicking efficiency would be low
Corbett - Got much more involved 10 disposals, 5 marks, 1 goal. Wheels and plays on frequently when marking 60 - 90m out.
Schoenfeld - Seemed quieter that qtr, but provides some run, often getting out in space providing an option. 18 disposals, 3 marks.

Need to lift
Day, Ah Chee been completely absent. Day has got his hands on about 4 kicks but just drops them
Connor Nutting 1 disposal for the half

Why do we get flogged like this every year?
There’s enough listed players for us to expect better than this
Getting well beaten in the midfield this week with no Brodie or GHS. (75 disposals).
A lot of our listed boys are talls Day, Nicholls, Leslie, King, Corbett.

Pretty talented team out there for GWS
Bonar, Cummings, O'Halloran, Hill, Corr all top 25 picks
Briggs, Flynn, Idun picks 30+

+ another 3-4 rookie listed players who have been very good.

We just don't seem like we A) get into space and B) can move the ball with any precision

Ring any bells?

Rischitelli, Scheer, Dawson, Ah Chee, Schoenfeld, Mclennan have been soundly beaten by their GWS counterpart mids / smalls.

If there was anyone in the NEAFL kicking bags of goals for us they'd be playing in the seniors
We have always struggled to kick goals at any level
3.6 in 3 quarters of NEAFL is poor though

GWS playing with a monster forward line

Flynn 200cm, 102kg
Briggs 199cm, 102kg
Sproule 197cm, 92kg
Callum Brown 189cm, 91kg

but we're not generating ANY run from defence.
Dawson gives zero drive with his shuffling and 20m pokey kicks.
McLennan been ok
Leslie, Graham and Koenan down there provided zero rebound.

Just look like there is no class amongst the group.

Sam Day has taken to charging over small players from the other team a few seconds after they've kicked the ball.
Showing some aggression in the actual contest would be better placed Sam.

some observations from the match. Koenen is not AFL quality in the slightest, happy we didnt take him. Graham, Dawson, Nutting and Schoenfield will be very lucky to stay on the list in the next 2 years. Gore and possibly Ashton Crossley need to be drafted at the end of the year, both look good. Day is cooked, Leslie is still a very poor decision maker and seems to have no footy IQ at all at times. Scheer is getting better and better. Corbetts leading patterns and hands are elite cant wait to see him in the 1s

Brad Scheers disposal was appalling for the most part
Needs to get those kicks low and hard-looping and missing at the moment
Otherwise he's coming along nicely
Easily the most effective mid for us today and ran all day

Brad Scheers biggest deficiency now is his kicking. Double hand drop from very high - no penetration on his kicks, just loopy little dolly's I'm afraid.
Puts his body on the line though and gives 100%. Pretty clean by hand.
Can play defensively in the midfield as shown by his good job on Bonar.

Corbett clearly a class above.
Ended with 19 possessions, 10 marks

Nicholls quite good in the ruck I thought. Is pretty good at directing his taps to team mates

Dawson much better up in the midfield, clean hands and nice work in tight.

Ah Chee injured :(

Honestly can only see Young + Corbett of those that played today coming in and performing like an AFL level player.
