It was reported we are going to pay some of Betts' 1 year contract salary but nothing about Jenkin's 2 years. I've tried to find any article reporting this (and nothing saying it's as much as half of his $500K per year), we likely gave that future pick "sweetener" to not have to this or as little as possible.
Reid confirmed we were paying a chunk of his salary
With JJ and Betts though I will trust the club that we just needed them gone. Both have been major media highlights with regards to the discontent within the playing group so I have no issue with club getting them out at all cost

To be honest I expected we may pay all of Jenkins wage to see him gone

$100-150K is a "chunk" of his $500K per year.

I’m staggered anyone could be happy with that.

Yes we cleared out some ag being players but for 2 of those players, we gave them away as they had no trade value and are still paying part of their contracts.

We then moved on 2 28 year olds because a) weren’t prepared to give them contracts to take them to 31 and b) we thought they would be our trade currency to move up the draft. Neither achieved that. Also need to take into account that we’ve drafted them late, so what did we expect?

The best pick we brought in was 37. 37! In a year we needed to rebuild that’s the best we could do? If you’re going to be serious about a rebuild you actually trade out some quality knowing you won’t be doing much for the next few years. We’ve done a Claytons rebuild. We’ve loaded up with a bunch of average picks.

We brought in one player Frampton which ended up being our best overall deal as we got lucky GWS needed to trade for Jacobs, that wasn’t our doing, that’s just luck.

As for all of that salary cap relief? Are we saving on players to pay for the soft cap tax? What else are we going to do with it?

Yes we’ve got some talent in the sanfl that need games but that’s got nothing to do with the talent we’ve brought in this trade period.

We had months to plan for this.

It was pure unadulterated crap.
So i am guessing you are a glass half empty sort of fella after this;)

We now have no choice but to move on from the grand final team

Out: Cameron, Douglas, Greenwood, Jacobs, Jenkins, Lever, Otten, Betts

Will Mackay, Atkins, Kelly and Knight also still be best 22?

---

We have no choice but to finally move on from our failed 2016 side

Out: Betts, Cameron, Cheney, Douglas, Jacobs, Jenkins, Lever, Lyons, McGovern, Thompson

---

We have no choice but to move on from R23, 2019

Out: Betts, Douglas, Greenwood, Jacobs, Keath

More games pumped in to Jones, Fogarty, and Milera

I’ve got 2 words, epic fail.
I get the fail part - depending on your perspective it could be seen as a going either way.

But there was nothing epic about it. You make it sound like we were miles off what we should have reasonably expected for two fringe 22 players who were out of contract.

Second best draft hand, in terms of points. This is a good start to the rebuild. Hopefully, we can package some picks up, and yield a second pick in the top-20.

A genius move by Reid to stockpile enough late picks to select ALL 17 of the F/S and NGA players in the 2020 draft. That is how it works, right?

I’ve given the reasons why I believe it’s epic.

Are we rebuilding or not? Loading up with a bunch of average picks ain’t going to cut it. We should have traded out some real currency and brought in quality picks for a proper rebuild.

Don't we need all 6 picks just to get to the minimum list size of 38? That's assuming Knight sticks around.

Wouldn't mind getting a pick inside Port's pick 18, reckon we'd go close to landing Will Day with that pick otherwise I reckon Port take him with pick 18

Meh... we got picks but last year we kept passing on them and drifted further and further back in the draft. Would’ve been nice to trade a big fish over but nobody wants to come here.

The average age of the squad just dropped quite a bit. Wonder where we will sit compared to other clubs next year.
The first team will likely be slightly older than average

If the senior guys like Lynch Gibbs DMac all play 22 games then we will be close to this year's average age which was about 26.5.

Its hard to judge because I think we will try to move up a few picks before draft night. Took an L on Greenwood and par for Keath.

Biggest pass was moving on the salary cap space of Eddie, JJ, Keath, Greenwood, Sauce etc.

Gives us a chance to rearrange some contracts like Sloanes and Lynch and pay the majority of theirs out earlier if accepted by the players.

It was the trade season we had to have to move forward.

And gave up a Gold Coast third rounder next year so the value is equivalent.

We got nothing for Jenkins but are paying half his salary.
Don’t care about next year. We got enough future picks, plus academy and f/s players for next year

we needed a pick we could use this year rather than what everyone expected us to get for Jenkins which was something in the 90’s
