Why are people so salty on here? You talk like you work at the club and have knowledge about what is actually going on. From the end of last season. We have made progression as a club this year. Most decisions made by those in charge have helped us improve. I don’t remember a time we have been this strong off field in people running the club. The media doesn’t rip into us any more like they used too. so that is a sign we have strong campaigners.

All these people including roughhead. Are not going to join a team were they don’t think success is at the end of the road. I don’t see why you wouldn’t back the club in right now over the trade period. They believe we are onto some thing and have a team that can win it.

Discuss the trade period but don’t sit there abusing people for stuff that hasn't even happened yet. There is a reason it is their full time job and we are commenting on bigfooty ;)
Great post.
Enough of the hypotheticals and look at what is happening.
Club is definitely stronger and the players they are looking at drafting will help us improve and those already drafted have helped us improve.
Imagine us getting Ryder, Hill, Jones/Crouch, Keith/Tomlinson or even Sam Grey, wow. What a better team we look.
Now if we can get most of these by trading out players like Sinclair, Acres etc who these recruits replace then boom.

Wow what a time to be a bulldogs supporter
Arguably the best young midfield core with the likes of Dunkley, bontempelli, smith and macrae
Have one of the best up and coming
ruckman in English and talls in Naughton and even Schache starting to look good
And now they are gonna poach one of our best players in bruce. My god look at what they have done with dale in the second half of the season ( he kicked a far few in his last 10 games). He’s decent but u give someone like Bruce that service and with his marking ability he will probably return to that 50 goal a season star forward

Meanwhile we are going to trade out our best forward(Bruce), best defender(carlisle), best midfielder(Steven) take our one shining star(Marshall) and apparently convert him into a more forward dominant player who partly rucks and we don’t even have 3 consistent ball winners in our midfield....

Not trying to be pessimistic was just reminiscing to the good times after watching that last two minutes on afl web clip where we pipped the cats at the death in the 2010 finals series and comparing to now where we have fallen so far😭

I can understand peoples concerns, but surely the club will only trade them if they can improve our position going forward. I can also understand why the club would consider trading Carlisle & Bruce. Lets be patient and hold on tight and hope we have a perfect landing?

Also, ever think that the new coach has something to do with these moves?

Or that the “bomb it long” wasn’t a game plan but came about because of Bruce being more of an athlete than a football and always leading back to goal and not coming to the ball carrier often enough?

Agreed, quite the deep end for King to be thrown into. I know we all have great expectations for the kid but jeez, the pressure of being the number one forward as a skinny young lad who hasn't played a senior game would be immense.

Would be ironic if we ended up in the same situation that Footscray are seemingly wanting to get out of now, though with a much weaker midfield making it even harder for the kid.
Agree, and if we remember, someone might know better than me but, when Roo and Kosi were recruited we supported them with experience such as Fraser and Hamill. It helped them develop.
Imagine if we had Roo and Kosi etc without those guys for support.
Keep Bruce as support for King etc.

I just report what was said. What bit has been upsetting to me? I'm embarrassed for us but that's life. We are in an embarrassing situation of our own making. It is what it is.
Exactly, it’s of our own making.

When sides just accept that generally without a large dose of luck there are no shortcuts and get everything lined up on and off the field then and only then do things start to improve. We shake our heads at the GC not because their lousy on the field but because they are poorly run and delusional off the field which in turn is reflected in their on field efforts.

If the club was open and honest about where we are and took the proper steps I can wear players leaving and us loosing. That of course isn’t the case which is why we’re chasing and in all probability about to overpay for hill whilst shunting off our CHF & CHB.

We appear to have a foot in both camps at present and to me and obviously others it appears a very disjointed strange approach. Now if the club pulls off a recruiting master stroke and we actually improve I’ll tip my cap to the people in charge.

So far the actual moves that have been made since bassat became prez are:

Richo gone - ratten in (probably full time)
Highest rated retiring player / coach (roughy) joins us
Massive new global brand sponsor
For First time we are linked to seriously high quality targets
The three big names we are rumoured to be losing are all way down on their best and may still get some decent returns

If it keeps going like this I gotta say; I’m good with it....

Yep on SEN drive they are laughing at us now, too long to announce Ratten, mysterious trading out, weird trading in. We are hard to follow.
Problem is, we don't know how many blokes they have interviewed.
Maybe Ratts has got the job and he has said he wants two or more new assistants and they had to interview those guys also.
These processes can take time and is integral to get right.
Then Ratts needs to be informed then all the others before the announcement.
For mine I am not worried. Surely we want the club to be diligent.
If they had appointed Ratts by now and in two years we hadn't improved, everyone would be saying why we didn't take more time etc.
Let the process happen.
I am confident given that our off field stance is stronger now than any time I can remember and I am in my 40's.

While I understand what you saying my fear is that we commit to some of our best going, but then have the deals for our incoming ins all collapse.

You have to hope that the Clubs already has agreed in principle with the other clubs on what we need to give up for the players we want in. As it is we are entering the trade period with no 2019 2nd and 3rd round picks.

All those who think Gringo is a huge sourpuss, just wait awhile. One day, my suppressed emotions will be unleashed and Gringo's gonna seem like the Patron Saint of Positivity compared to me.

Despite constant disappointment, he still harbours hope and ambition. Whereas I have long accepted, that it doesn't matter what we do, who we trade in or out, I'll never see a flag. We're cursed!

For now, i can still control my feelings, mainly through humour, and avoiding all serious discussions. Still, I'm only a Cam Polson, Z Smith, Z Clark, Ben Crocker, James Parsons, any Wagner, Hrovat, etc, type of recruit from going full Deacon of Despair mode. Either that, or the Blues jump way above us next year, morphing me into the Grim Guru forever.

So fellas, be thankful we have Gringo as our resident grouch, cos there's every chance it could get a whole lot worse.

Honestly, if McCartin had managed to stay fit along with King this year Bruce would have been in the 2s. People say he'd kick 60 goals at a decent side, well there's one problem... he can't kick.

The best thing Bruce has done this year is improve parts of his rucking by taking the ball out of the ruck, which has been a good tactic for him.

When it comes to trading you sell high. If King comes in next year Bruce may well be in the seconds, at which point his value will drop massively. Makes total sense to trade him now if Pies and Dogs are offering high picks.

About time someone made sense. Some of the posters on this board are talking like Bruce is as important to us as Carey was to North Melbourne.

A below average forward for mine

Surely one of Austin , Clavarino , Marsh could easily step up next year

Let’s not forget that Marsh was a Collingwood listed player. He had some time off, but now with a year back and some fitness he can hopefully offer a lot next season.

Wasn’t there talk at one stage of him being able to play in the midfield? He’s certainly a good size.

Not sure Austin is a player required going forward ( wasted 2nd rounder by Trout )

Would not be suprised we go potential different way trade 5 for Bonar & pick ( Hill )
or Caldwell & pick with Giants they may need insurance for Green pick .

Again. Let’s see what happens. We are still a month away from anything. We still need to workout the futures of Acres and Newnes, Robbo and Paddy.

8 clubs still in finals, so we need to see what happens there. It’s too early to panic and worry. Let’s be excited

I really hope we can keep all of Steven , Carlisle and Bruce . We have some very young and inexpierenced players in our group and getting rid of that talent wont help much in my view . I think too many people think King is just going to dominate from word go . I mean i hope he does but it seems unlikely as he is going to be playing against much bigger bodied defenders than he is used to . If Bruce goes then there will be so much pressure on Membrey who really should be the third tall forward . Also with Bruce gone i hope they arent planning on throwing King into the ruck already . I guess the other option is to try to get someone like Ryder to play forward and second ruck but i cant see the point . Its not like he has a history of kicking lots of goals .

There’s a new player linked to us every day, there’s a new player leaving us every day, this supposed coach announcement never came .... Is it to much to hope the media blokes reported this are either just straight making up nonsense or adding 1 + 1 and getting 100?

This is the silliest silly season for us ever.

Looking at Bruce over a season he is incredibly inconsistent.
His stats flatter him because he has one or 2 huge games a year where we forget our frustrations with him and start yelling BAROOOOOSEY unironically again.

Goals -
0 - 5 games
1 - 7 games
2 - 5 games

17 goals in 17 games.

Marks inside 50 -
0 - 4 games
1 - 3 games
2 - 10 games

23 marks inside 50 in 17 games.

Just for a depressing comparison-
Jeremy Cameron had 17 goals and 20 marks inside 50 in his first 4 games of the year.

Now this may be due to the delivery he is receiving and the poor midfield etc etc and when Brucey is on he is ON. A rampaging bull of a forward who clunks everything and boots bags.
But, perhaps the club is looking for someone who they can trust to consistently have an input while maximising the return they can get in a trade and allowing room for Mings growth?

they're trying to fix a list situation that will take years for the draft to fix and by that time we are back to looking for KPP stock again, we go on as we are and we don't really have a decent chance, something has to change drastically in the next 2 years.

We either need to
A: gut the list and head back to the draft in a big way, Meaning that Billings, Membrey, Ross, all the middle agers will be elderly statesman by the time we hit finals again
B: sell some assets to get the list in a better shape for a tilt in 2-3 years time
C: go on as we are, lack talent, not really acquiring enough to make the difference needed and see our middle age players limp throughout their entire careers without seeing any serious finals action.

This is literally what we've been hearing for years. We don't get them right. To me we are back at 2012 again and no further advanced. I think it's time I gave up on them, they just make me frustrated in what should be an entertainment industry. I'm dumb enough to give a shit about the club. I am like a guy who invested in a a shit tech stock that crashed in the noughties, I'm still holding hoping that the shares that I paid $12 each for will get over the 12c mark soon. Meanwhile the directors are pissing away the few remaining assets to fund their lifestyles.

Just trying to look out for a fellow sainter who is feeling the pain... Sometimes it's better to dwell on happier moments..
.

Yeah, well it comes across as patronising. Thanks for your interest.

gringo2011, you may not be depressed but you sure are depressing the living daylights out of me.

This season we have a new coach, new people at the helm, it’s pointless carrying on about the past and things we cannot change.

Why not just try to drop the baggage of the past, look forward and see where we go from here?

The sad thing is I used to hate Big Mart on SS and I've turned into him.
