Lethlean said clearly the other day there are some exciting announcements to be made.

Everyone seemed to throw the toys out when Playfair resigned without thinking about who could be coming in.

Until you find out Purple is our new assistant coach.

Interesting quote from an old afl.com.au article

Rath, once described as "a mad scientist in running shorts", oversees the analytic and IT staff at Hawthorn and specialises in skill development and game analysis.

The ex-Australian Institute of Sport biomechanist and performance analyst also researches other sports looking for strategies, trends and training and coaching methods that might translate to the AFL.

Rath is credited with transforming the Hawks from the League's worst kicking side into the best during their golden era from 2012 to 2015, when they made every Grand Final and won three of them.

The last paragraph would seem to make him an excellent hire

That last paragraph made me have what the afl industry calls an ‘aiden boner’

Unfortunately trade history suggests we won't get much for stuv.

Best we could hope for would be freos 2nd round pick 24 in the Kelly trade.

Bruce for pick 12 seems fair and reasonable for both clubs, maybe 2020 round 3 or 4 pick swap to keep the wb happy.

I'm also hearing some chit chat about us trading our 2020 1st rounder to Sydney for their 2019 1st round pick. Apparently they have like 3 academy kids next year. Can anyone confirm this rumour?

We could then trade pick 12 and 24 to freo for Hill.

Take picks 4 and 5 to the draft

" A mad scientist in running shorts "
lol

Just what we need! More madness!

Anyone that can transform our kicking skills into elite
Will be a genius in my book!
Rath suddenly becomes potentially the greatest recruit the Saints have ever nabbed!

Mixed bag IMO.

Rath and Roughy are big inclusions.

Hamill, Lade and Skrob as our three main assistants seems weak.
I’d agree with u but I do believe lade deserves more credit given what he did this year in the midfield with Gresham and clarks game as well dunstan who had honest season last year

With regards to skrob he has a small sample size but is apparently highly regraded internally and anyone who gets rowan Marshall approval gets mine

As for hamill I’d of hoped for a better defensive coach and does strike me as the weak link but let’s give him time. Atleast he has pre exisiting relationships with the players as a positive for him

So Stuv wants to go to Geelong to be closer to his wife and child at Lorne.
Didnt I read where he has a new girl friend, or is that crap? If its true surely the 'want to be at Lorne" business is redundent.
So what is the situation, does he have a new girlfriend or not?

Glad to welcome back Dempster as well. We need all the experience we can get from our last golden gernation to move forward
Not suprised he is head of strength and conditioning. You could show a movie on that mans biceps

Surely if Geelong don't get the deal they want they will simply abandon the idea of any trade for Steven.

Not a good look for Geelong. They have been pursuing Steven for years. If they pull the pin on him after all this time then it will be be noted by other players and player managers.

Jack Steven has given his all for our club for 180 odd games, he’s won four B&F awards, he’s a very popular member of our club.
And this year that same man was in an extremely dark place due to very upsetting personal problems and mental health issues.
What we get for Stuv in a trade doesn’t matter, if it’s a second rounder, a third rounder, or nothing.
All anybody that knows Jack wants is for him to give himself the best possible chance of getting his life back on track.
To still hear supporters carrying on about what he’s worth in a trade is very upsetting, especially after events of the last week.
These are real people battling real issues. Instead of carrying on over a draft pick, let’s just hope that a Saint can get his life in order and just be happy, healthy and content.
Footy actually means nothing in the scheme of things, draft picks even less.
Get some perspective please.

I didn’t mean the trade. I meant that if Jack needs to go we need to respect that. At the end of the day good mental health is way more important than football - a game.

I would like to be part of a club that does the right thing, even if, unfortunately, it costs us in the long run. Watching a smug Chris Scott the other night I’m not expecting a great outcome though. Cest la vie.

Tim Kelly anyone? Wanted to go home because he has two kids with special needs. Geelong refused as he was contracted and they couldn't get what they felt was a fair deal.

What's the difference to Stuv's situation? If those sanctimonious pricks pull the compassion and welfare card, I will do a Terry Wallet and "fair dinkum spew up!"

people think i'm overly critical of the club, but i really like those ins. it's huge and a potential game changer!

if i am being critical i don't think we have the alignment right yet. i don't like playfair going out for hamill, i really dont like mcglyn taking over at sandy. however maybe rath needs a year to get it right.

we've really lacked leadership at sandy since mcphee got promoted

i would have liked us to atleast sound out someone like webb

sexton surviving is a mystery
