For starters I said he was arguably a best and didn't even mention most important. Next,Billings is statistically the most likely player at our club to hit someone wearing a saints jumper forward of centre. He was a below average set shot for one year but corrected again this year. Finished with 12 brownlow votes all in the first half of the season which is precisely why I said definitely our best for the first half of the year. Steele is currently a 22 touch a game player who's decent stopping opposition but doesn't damage with his possessions at all. Membrey is good but not a player to build a forward line around. Gresham is good but a significantly bigger butcher than Billings statistically. Marshall is probably our most important player from a structural perspective but not our best. Billings, Ross, Steven are at least all better than him at their best.

Finally why are you speaking about "in a few years"? We've been talking about "in a few years" for nearly a decade now. We aren't bringing Ryder and Hill in so we can be competitive "in a few years". Hunter hasn't played a game through the midfield yet, Ross is currently our best mid and you're kidding yourself if you think trading Billings for King isn't objectively losing that trade. Waste of time even talking about it tbh.
Statistically your wrong. Membrey/Ross/Dunstan/Gresham averaged more score involvement than Billings this season so that backs up my point about him going sideways more so than actually forward. Again Ross/Gresham/Dunstan averaged more inside 50's than him which proves my point yet again. I don't care about Brownlow votes. McGovern didn't poll a vote I'm pretty sure and Billings doubled Gresham/Heeneys/Greene and even McCluggage votes, but I'd take that all over him in a heart beat if I was selecting a player.

Your point about Membrey is off the mark, he has been a forward that we have used to build our forward line around. He shouldn't be, but he is. In a better side and playing a 3rd tall instead of taking the best defender most week's, he would be kicking 60 goals a season instead of 45 with us.

If we managed to get King and pick 20 for Billings and Sinclair like I said in my earlier post, then it's a win. Key Position players are worth their weight in gold as seen with Lynch/Riewoldt in the grand final. Genuine mids win you games ala Martin/Cotchin/Prestia and not the flanker types in Ellis etc.

It is a waste of time discussing it when some overrated Billings like he is some Messiah.

I might get shot for this, but in our last glory years under Lyon that is exactly what St Kilda was such a good team, and why we won as mainly games as we did. Sure we had some great players, but most of the team wasn't.

All the players has bought into the team ethos and worked hard together for success, with each doing their bit, even when that bit was just to guard space and hardly touch the ball.

The Tigers gameplan is the polar opposite of St Kilda's under Lyon, but that player buy in and commitment is exactly the same.
Almost half the team were AA calibre players. Structures help, but let's not kid ourselves with the quality we had. None of our current squad come near the level that Dal/Hayes/Roo/Milne/Fisher/Goddard/Montagna/Hudghton with the likes of Gilbert/Gram etc going close to the 40 man squad. Lets not kid ourselves, we were stacked with talent. One could even say that if we played a nore open game style that we may have done better.

Most of it is crap. Just read my posts. You will learn a lot.
You awake plugger? If so is the next 6 pages full of crap or do they have to be read?
Asking for a friend.🤨

Getting experienced 26 year old spuds in to make the list profile look a bit closer to Geelongs on paper isn’t going to get us there... sounds like a disastrous plan to me.
Yeah lets get 100 games into some spuds and all of a sudden we are playing off for a flag , What a crock of sh1t

I tell you what I stayed away and I felt sane for the first time in ages. I'm too triggered to get off but after tomorrow I'm not logging back in until trade period ends ........if I can discipline myself. Saintsational is like tea and cucumber sandwiches on the lawn compared to this place now. It's like 30 primates flinging turds at each other tonight.
But i will miss you #bringbackgringo

No gringo no mowman

Fair dinkem , its so funny listening to so many getting their frilly knickers in a twist over garbage posted on the net , you know 95% of it is complete bull sh1t yet you go off tap , just relax guys . Even the ones who think they are ITK's really are clutching at straws like the rest of us

St Kilda Stat of the day:

The last time we finished the H&A season with a % over 100 was 2012

We’ve had a problem with scoring for so long it’s beyond a joke. I finally have some faith the club is taking the steps needed to fix that... But when their only answer 3 years ago was to bring in Ben Dixon to fix goal kicking, well it’s just the blind leading the blind at the Saints.
Fingers crossed Ratten actually takes real steps to address these problems. Seems like he is.

I think if we wanted Ben King we should’ve just taken him last year. Until Ross is our third or fourth best midfielder we shouldn’t even be asking about him.
We had no currency to take him last year. Richo was too busy trying to keep his job to let Steven go and the list management done nothing about it. Seems like the tail is always wagging the dog with us.

Not sure why everyone is getting wound up. And it's not as if we on here are driving this, BlacreJacks is just reporting what he's heard.

GC ask for Billings
We offer Young

A deal ultimately hopefully gets struck.

At least they're talking

Who would trade Billings for Ben King?

Based on news I got tonight it seems that Gold Coast will.

At least the Sun's are talking to us about Ben, that's a good start.

The umpires, coaches association and our club all came to the conclusion he was our best player this year, let alone midfielder.
It might be you who is watching the wrong games.

I’m certain I’ve been watching a different game to umpires... been convinced of that for years.

And I’d trade Seb before Gresh everyday of the week.

Wasn’t in our top 5 players IMO.

Mark Evans from the GCS makes the mistake of responding to a question with a truthful answer that it would take "extraordinary circumstances" for Ben King not to be at GCS next year and that translates on the internet to 1 + 1 = 547 (or Ben King to St Kilda)

He needs to learn from Ratten - ie - the straight bat - "Josh Bruce/Ben King is a contracted player"

Give 'em Seb
This is where we should be looking!

Trading Gresh or Billings makes no sense, as they are yet to reach their potential
And have much more scope for improvement as potential elite players
Than what Seb does! He ain't getting any better, and his best is pretty bloody ordinary!

He is the perfect circuit breaker for what we need to happen in order for us to become a serious player
In trade week and make a big splash. So we can get some much needed excitement and momentum
For our club looking forward!

We sit on our very average hands, then not much will change sadly and the continuous path of
Bland mediocrity will just roll on and on!

It was the right call at the time to keep him. Absolutely no doubt about it.

But hey, let’s just look at one part in isolation to prove your point. Just like you are doing with your absolute nuffy call about Billings.
