HE'S CERTAINLY NO JOEL SELWOOD....and thats the type of hard playing ball getting machine we need.....a joel selwood that has been the core of Geelong's sustained success......if HILL was remotely in that echelon then it wouldnt matter what pick he'd be worth it ...but is he even close? Then again who is that's gettable.

In last years draft it would have been no contest.
Max King or Brad Hill?
This year i guess the lines aren't so clearly defined. I could imagine taking Brad Hill with pick 6 and not being too upset about what I've missed out on ( yet ).
2 years in a row.... not a chance.

Yes Fremantle need a bit of a sweetener because he's under contract..but with what they've asked they should have either said he's off the table or at least warned that we were about to hit Ludicrous Speed.
His value to StKilda is the same whether he's contracted or not.

Here is Bell and his Crew trying to keep up with Satan
( Is that Tim Watson starring as Sanders )

Wells: We've been talking to the Saints around Jack Steven. Both clubs know what they value Jack at. And right now it's just not quite matching up
Is that verbatim? Wouldn't sound good to Jack hearing the Cats basically don't value him at all surely.

"The Saints have suddenly become somewhat of a destination club."

its official :handfist:

They said exactly the same on the trade radio conference this morning, and u don't think it's a coincidence. I think the Allen Lethlean strategy this last year is sell this idea to the media and fans, and of course players and agents, so that jucier targets may stop rejecting us automatically. Get our name around all the agents, show "interest" in any player wishing to move, get players to at least check us out, get a few of the Hills, Joneses, and Hanneburys in, get a buzz happening and the Dustys, Kellys, and Gaffs of tomorrow may be more likely to jump onto our hook.

It appears Jack did very little to sell himself as a desirable commodity this year. We really should not have played him in his current physical/mental state. It would have been better sending him to Byron Bay for three months.

Don't discount the beams trade blowing up in the pies face this year as a big factor too

They have and will. Ones far crappier than the king boys too- izzy folau and karmicheal hunt.

They also offered a mill a year in ambassador money outside the cap to tom lynch before he left too.
Sorry to barge in but they certainly did not. The ambassador money is pittance. The highest payed ambassador wage in the Leauge is Pendlebury. It’s **** all money

am i reading into wells correctly... 37 not on the table. the only other pick cats have this year is 93. plainly an insult. i'm starting to think Geelong don't really wont stevo.

best for everybody if they just blardy well say so... saints team can then steer their focus on the other trades.

Agreed. Fans blew up about Coniglio getting it and it ended up being about 30k I think.

The AFL would not be hanidng out one play $1m outside of the cap. The rest of the league wouldn't put up with that.

It’s also been reported that Bell wasn’t surprised by the Saints-Giants pick swap however he was in complete shock that St Kilda did it early on in the trade period. Apparently Bell expected to push out the Hill negotiations to the last day & even admitted to posturing as “its part of the trade game”. It would seem Bell is an egotistical knob jockey who enjoys the bartering of trade period. Lethers/Gub/Banker just displayed that they mean business & aren’t here to play stupid childish games.

It appears like he felt they'd get an advantage by stretching out the Hill deal knowing we had so many deals to work through... hoping that we'd panic and pay any price just to get it done.

It's pretty much how they got pick 2 for Weller but sadly for freo not every club is run as poorly as GC have been

He has, he's just trying to be polite. You'd never say an outright no to a player like Stuv, but they think they'll get him for peanuts if they're patient. I don't think they mind and you can see why.

“For where we picked him up, I’d think that mid-second-round pick, inside pick 30, if there was some interest there, but we haven’t had anyone really come to us yet and we’re not actively out there driving it so we’ll just see what unfolds there,” he said.

Aidan Bonar.

Interesting that they haven’t really had any interest.

The rest of the league have and will- Folau and Hunt.

Did you miss the part where the AFL handed GC massive concessions ontop of a priority pick just a couple of weeks ago?

Did the rest of the league put up with that?
Yes.

Would the rest of the league put up with the AFL further propping up their drowning baby who they have ploughed literally 10's of millions of dollars into?

In the grand scheme of the leagues total investment in GC- few more million into the king twins is chicken feed.
And the AFL have already shown their willingness to ignore the integrity of the draft and salary cap if that gets in the way of propping up their expansion babies.

If we miss out on Hill I hope we sling a second for Bonar. Will be far cheaper.

A fully fit Steven would be close to a top 3 player at Geelong, even half fit player he'd be up there. Unless they've got another high profile player lined up, no Steven probably means zero chance for challenging a premiership down at the cattery.

I can undersatnd people think Bonar is the big mid we need, but having seen him play several NEAFL games I can see him becoming a version of Ellis-Yolmen at AFL level. Definitely doesnt excite but our recruiters might see something I dont. Surely Partington or Hibberd proven quality state level midfielders are better value than a kid who was just a high draft pick?

IMO the Hill deal will get done after Freo understand they need to swallow a big piece of humble pie.

No, the rest of the league would not put up with a club having $2m extra in their salary cap.

It was very different when the club was starting out. They were paying these guys not because they had football ability, it was to get the AFL into the papers. They werent getting a huge leg up on field with Hunt.

As I said, different circumstance. Very.

Do you have a link to the Lynch being offered $1m because thar sounds made up

There was talk at the time, but you are clutching at straws mate. You asserted it was impossible the AFL would pay a million a year to an ambassador and I gave you 2 examples where that exactly did happen.

You say hunt and folau were different circumstances but the fact is in 2019 GC are just as vunerable to collapse now as they were in the hunt days.
They paid hunt that money to get bums on seats and media attention to make them less vunerable.

Nothing has changed on that front- it's hardly tinfoil hat stuff to suggest the AFL wouldn't at least consider paying the kings a pile of money outside the cap if they both signed longterm up there.
