I think a few in here are jumping at shadows. Ryder himself said he's not here to take the #1 spot off Roma.

The guys at the club are a bit smarter than we give them credit for. They will have noticed Roma's 2019 and be aiming high fir him in 2020. Let's have faith that they know what they're doing. Ryder has been brought in to mentor Roma and make him better, not to hold him back.

We aren't winning the flag next year, if playing Ryder fast tracks Roma to be top 3 in the league I can handle an imbalance for a year.

If Ryder rucks 80% + after the first 2 rounds then melt away.

Let's put it this way. I have more faith in the actual footy club people than the Big Footy or SS.net people regarding Ryder.

That’s why I said I’m reserving judgement.

That’s true but they still make errors. Selection drafting trading etc tells us that
Of course, every club makes mistake (some monumental here and there) but they are humans at the helm.

Sometimes a punt won't come off either from a draft or pick. It's part of the competitive business that is AFL.

A classic human stuff up: If the French generals trusted and believed their intelligence and reconnaissance right before the German blitzkrieg, then they could have ended WW2 there and then at their borders by destroying the logam and buildup of German forces....but they didn't. 10 millions more died than had to because of that lack of trust.

We should have faith in the current ST KFC admin.

Didn't realise there was a clause in Ryder's contract saying he had to play.

If he makes us better he will play. I don't think Bruce has made way for Ryder at all, he has made way because we rate Max King to take over his spot.

It's funny with Bruce. I watched his interview at the Dogs, saying he's looking forward to going to a team that plays finals. For all the talk of him being a leader at the club, he was in the leadership group once in 2017 and then removed in 2018. Hearing stuff like that, shouldn't he have been the one driving standards to improve and get the club into finals?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what King can do for us.

King isn’t our second ruck. Ryder will be. That means he is replacing Bruce. Don’t think it’s a coincidence that Ryder comes in and we then are happy to lose bruce. As for a clause well no there is no cleanse obviously but like kent he will be given a fair few chances to prove himself.

If we play Ryder as our main ruck I could not think of a more backward step. Port didn't even class Ryder good enough this year to be the main ruck let alone another year on. Marshall as the potential to be nearly the best big man in the game.
Question - how do you know that the improved Marshall doesn't also have the potential to become the best forward in the game?

You don't - yet apparently you write that option off.

He played ruck last year because we had no other option - next year we have options - I hope we test them because strangely enough selection its about putting the best "combination" on the park - not pigeonholing players to roles.

That said going by Marshalls responses to questions about how he and Ryder might operate, it seems that the selectors aren't as fixed in their thinking as you and that they are clearly looking at Ryder ruck and Marshall forward.

We had literally one ruckman on our list. We needed to sign one and will most likely try to get another.

I think at this point it’s pretty easy to mount a case for either argument so it’ll be a wait and see.
I get what you’re saying about Marshall vs Ryder but Marshall on his own in the ruck wasn’t working when you had experienced ruck opposition. He still has a few years to get there. Ryder will help short term IMO

Or is he replacing Acres?

I don’t have a clue about Marshall ability as a forward next year but ive seen him play one year as a forward and one as a ruck previously. The year as a forward was very average. The year as a ruck nearly won him the b and f. Is it coincidence or is it just natural improvement or it is the most likely option that is just a very good ruck. I’m going the third option if that’s ok with you. As for thinking Ryder will ruck well I’m not sure where you got that from. I was responding to a post saying it madness. Maybe it was even your post. My opinion is clear. If Ryder plays we are better for 20 minutes a game clearly and worse for 100 in whatever position he plays.

So why are you so stressed that we picked up Ryder?
Stressed is probably the wrong word. Footy doesn’t even slightly stress me that’s why after a loss tge world hasn’t ended or after a win we aren’t winning 6 flags in a row. As for Ryder well my opinion is he will play certainly early as most players do from other clubs who are regular senior players. My opinion is if Ryder plays forward we are to slow and not good enough with ground ball and will most likely see either king or battle missing out on developing. If Ryder mainly rucks then it means Marshall misses out on developing in a position he has the potential to be nearly the best in the game and again battle or king misses out. Ideally for me is you get back up ruckman that just play when the first ruck is injured. Yes there is 20 minutes when you struggle when Marshall rests but there is 100 minutes when you are better. The sides that use 2 rucks are usually the sides with the deepest midfield so can carry a ruck either forward or on the bench. We aren’t close to that luxury

So you'd prefer if we'd picked up another crap ruckman that wouldn't play unless Marshall is injured?
