Trouble with fa is the clubs below the destination team and above the donor pay for the destination teams benefit.
Must be another way rather than compo picks.
Perhaps negative compo for the destination team and extra salary cap for the donor team?
No compo is the way to go.

That would kill the smaller clubs.
No it wouldn’t. It would mean instead of taking the compo as they do know they would chase replacements. For this to happen fa years must be lowered to make more players available. No one chases replacements now because they lose the compo

Not sure about how the club has been setting itself up for onfield success, but the handling/ development of our recruits has been erratic or just plain bad. Clark and Coff come on board last year, and look to have the right attributes, but Coff is treading water or gone slighty backwards, and both now playing VFL, though I guess Clark had a good game with Sandy yesterday, but needs to keep the form up and be consistent. Bytel and King recruited with injury issues and wont contribute this season, and Hanners may get on the field by mid season..maybe. Could we have done better?

Hannerbery is one of our worst pick ups since Justin Plapp. 800k for an ageing player with known injuries.
King will be revolutionary.
Bytel will come good.
Who cares about this year, develop kids and get a top 3 pick

Unfortunately though, it's a hell of a lot harder for clubs down the bottom to get decent recruits.

No one of note was going to go to GC last year. It would have killed them if Lynch were to walk for nothing.

You are right with the rules at the moment but if there was many more players available things maybe different

No one has mentioned this but Gubby Allen will most probably be sniffing out a A Grade player from GWS next year - with his past contacts there we might have a shot at securing one.
Tomlinson - FA
Coniligio - FA
Kelly - OC
Hopper - OC

Give me Cogs pls

You would bloody well hope so. I just don’t think we are desirable.

Realistically, we aren't getting anyone of note.
We need to focus more on keeping our good players before we worry about being rejected by more stars.
There is no reason why we shouldn't be trying to do both.

Yes, it's unlikely we get a star this off season, but it doesn't mean we don't try and trying to get talent in doesn't mean we can't also focus on keeping our players.

Even struggling clubs can do well in the off season. We can focus on bringing in young players that suit our needs that aren't quite getting the opportunities at the top clubs as we did with the likes of Membrey.

Allen will secure someone for us , at least they have a guy that has contacts and at least now we have a guy with a track record of securing players.
Also have money to use.
However we have to show our current squad has the ability to play finals.
So start this week and beat the injectors.

Your right Bird , we have enough money on the books to grab a top line player - Armmo gone next year and he was on good money.
As well we could also get a disgruntled player from another side , also put the feelers out to Ben King and having Max it should be easy.

Geez night and day when your fit.

Worried Austin won’t go the same way this year as we really need him

Same way as Newnes? Injury wise you mean? He was very loose last year.

Bombers looked very desirable for Shiel...;)
( not so much right now)

I will be surprised if anymore players leave GWS at season end FA or otherwise. If we will finish bottom 4 we are a good chance to pick up Noah Anderson an elite mid. Would be great to have another ex Saints son playing back at the club, to include him with Brett Voss' s son and the Sudanese boy (key forward) it would make for a good draft year.
