Geez , im thinking im about $1.65 to be escorted out although i wont be reading half the crap posted her in the game day thread so i think my odds should drift out to about $9.50 :p

He was mentioned in the AFL.com article this morning about us showing interest. Problem is he isn't a FA. Definitely makes more sense than Goldstein though as you can play him predominantly forward.

I’d be all for Ryder. But not at the expense of a draft pick inside the top 35-40 (not that we have one anyway). He’s a good fwd and a solid ruck. Perfect partner for Marshall.
Unless he has a wage that Port were keen to get rid of then i can’t see how we’d get it done. He’d very much be required there imo

The article states he is not really interested in a "move like that" when discussing St Kilda but happily states Carlton is in with a chance as they have plenty of money.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

I think that's Wayne Campbell from GWS saying that not the journo. I think that means we must be causing him some anxiety.

Why give a first for two players that have done literally nothing? Sounds SOS-like.
You mean compare to the 18 year old we’re going to draft using that pick who also has not proven anything and has not developed their body or skills in a professional AFL environment? What about the fact that we are crap at development? Seeing we’ve had success getting players like Steele, Bruce and Membrey who literally did nothing in their previous clubs, this is the perfect strategy, recruit young players from other clubs who are ready to step but haven’t had the opportunity..

Who should have developed that we failed? Goddard?

Acres, Dunstan (he was in and out of the side until 5 rounds ago) after 6 years on the list, Mccartin who has not lived up to expectations even before his concussion problems (5 years on the list), Long (4 years on the list), Longer and Pierce (6 and 7 years on the list).. That’s 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks..

Rather than ask who hasn’t developed.. a simple question would be who has developed into a consistent lock in for the 22 after being drafted as 18 year olds, since 2013.

I give you 2 as of last year, Gresham, Billings..

plus 3 in Marshall, Lonie, Battle after this year..

So we have failed to develop players like Clark and White because we haven't put enough game time into them.
Meanwhile a player, who played 16 games in his first season, who played alongside Lenny Hayes and Leigh Montagna , has failed cos Richo didn't drive him to footy school or something. Dunstan was picked nearly every week, until Ross came past him and Steel came into the side.

Easy to play the damned if you do, damned if you don't game. What do you suggest should have been done differently?

A top 10 pick is a rare commodity, Bont, Cripps, Danger, Dusty, Buddy, Pendlebury, Selwood etc all came in the top 10 of drafts. You don't want to be flippant about trading them out especially when we haven't made much of the ones we've had recently. To me you'd want to be pretty certain they are going to be well above GOPs and resilient.

I think we've forgotten the top end of drafts are where the real cream comes from. The law of averages says we are due to hit some guns soon....surely.

Billings Paddy Clark Coffield King all top 10

Yeah a couple of good a few bad. Trout has gone to "help" Essendon now, we should be a lot better off. Libba got more from his late picks that Trout could get in 10 years of drafting.

If we give away our first round pick, Libba will be able to holiday early this year.

Caldwell looks good but injury plagued, Bonar is a real could be anything type. Not sure he's going to be a gun or a bust.

Think / hope we keep it

Not sure Richo does development off the field so it must be on field he has failed. I reckon nearly everyone you mentioned is Pelchen or the recruiters fault. Blaming him McCartin pierce and Longer just proves you don't understand what is required for modern footy. Maybe you were a list manager here at one stage.

the fact that it was leaked we came out with this big massive money offer, tells me we are no chance and we know it.

Could be or maybe we are happy to put up offers to their guns so the price continues to rise and eventually some have to drop out. Got to shake the tree to get a coconut.

i wonder whether its actually coniglio we are chasing

Who else? Whitfield we still have to trade for him, wait and back ourselves. Taranto, Caldwell, or Boner, all three of their salaries wouldn’t be worth 1.4 mil put together. So probs not them, I think it is Coglingo and that was leaked/yelled to scare the Giants and the rest of the comp.

Cripps wasn't top 10

Neither was Gresham.

I looked at the numbers once. It varies with individual drafts .
There are certainly more gun players from the top 10. Generally have to be unlucky to end up with a player who is not even AFL standard.
There are less% but still a good proportion in the top 20.
Second round , i think it was about 50:50 if the players ever make it.
Third round , you might be lucky.
