Sam McClure reported Cogs told us to go away
He may have said that.... but the article said we were going to offer $1.4 not that we had offered. So what’s he saying go away too? Secondly, why would we offer money without having a prior discussion?

If we all shake our trees simultaneously with the emphasis on being Strong and Pleasing
Perhaps we can come up with a spectacular force of collective energy :fist: :fire:

That will lure Coniglio, Whitfield and Papley to just instantly be drawn to
Moorabbin in a hypnotic state with the specific mission of taking the Saints
And our grumpy, jaded but ultimately very lovable arses to the Promised land!! :trophy:

Why not i say? Let's really make the mighty Saints a true Destination club! :innocent:
I'll leave it in Kegs on Legs capable hands to organise a date! :handwaving:

Together we can all make a significant difference! :stkilda:

If recent history is anything to go by I don’t think we are in the frame. Maybe the club hasn’t / doesnt intend to put a big offer forward & it’s simply noice to see if we get a few smaller bites? Cogs has other plans, but suddenly a Bonar or Caldwell want Cogs money.

Hmmm.... Well sounds like Gringo has a bit more support regarding Marshall. Dal Santo said he needs support and yesterday on SEN Whately asked N Reiwoldt if he agrees and Roo said Marshall should be a part time Ruck/Fwd (mostly fwd) and that we need another (good) ruckman.

Was an interesting discussion from someone expertly qualified. I'm sure the podcast would be on SEN app in case people can't believe what they are reading

The race to sign off-contract GWS star Stephen Coniglio is down to four clubs, according to SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure.

Coniglio, 25, is yet to re-sign with the Giants and is attracting plenty of interest from Victorian and Western Australian clubs, who are closely monitoring his contract situation.

“It’s fair to say that the chase for Stephen Coniglio has well and truly begun,” McClure told The Match Committee.

“He’s flown down to Melbourne this week; he has caught up with his powerful player manager - Tom Petroro.

“My read on it is this … and I want to preface all this by

Saying I think he is staying (at GWS), but the clubs that are chasing him are clearly now: Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong and West Coast.

Contrary to recent reports of a planned $1.4 million per season offer, McClure believes St Kilda are out of the running for the midfielder’s signature.

“I think St Kilda are out,” he added.

“St Kilda have made it known that they like him … I don’t think he will go to St Kilda.”

Going by this guy we don't have a chance , anyway If he doesn't sign before the finals there is a good he will move.
Would be a surprise if he goes to the Blues seems to be a GWS graveyard.

A lot of these types of articles are just guesses. It’s very unlikely he’ll go to us so the writer is hedging their bets. Realistically no one in the know would have said “he’s thinking GWS Hawks or WC but ruled out Saints” just wouldn’t happen especially if he can leverage our huge offer.

All respect to Roo but Marshall is doing mighty fine as our main ruck and we need a elite mid before anything else.

We have made it publicly known we have large amounts of money sitting around and want to give it to a A grade midfielder. Wins some games in the back half of the season and it might prompt some players/managers wanting a pay day to come enquire about Moorabbin.

I don't think this offer too Cogs was ever a real possibility, but more of a publicity/diversion tool to hide who we are really after.

Just in respect to Cogs, even though it was a long shot and still is, just think of the Shiel situation last year.

Essendon were considered dead and buried and if you remember on the actual day it was Hawthorn clear number 1 and Carlton 2nd.

The players agent are the masters of politics. They only release what they want you to hear.

Yeah , not over till the Fat lady sings and hopefully Gubbys got her telephone number.

Good point.

Hopefully we can attract a contracted player that might want out and is looking for some more cash.

Lachie Neale last year got his management to seek out Brisbane which was a little different. Hopefully we can get a bit of luck like that.

A lot of Journalists have preconceived ideas.
The Hawks have a few top ender's, but their list is worse than ours right now.
Then again BJ thought that the Bombers were his best bet to play in a premiership.

I honestly think that if that's what he wants, he should stay put.

The players have assurances Rats is taking over next year?

Wouldn’t mind seeing Dunstan re-signed ASAP.

A lot of talls out of contract.

Except for the 2 listed they aren't free agents , so if someone wants them we trade we do it. Dunstan probably the one we'd miss the most.

I’m not a bonar fan but that’s exactly what I think we are doing. Cogs will stay but if he goes he ain’t coming to us.

FWIW he also said that we offered Shiel $1.4m p.a. and that Cogs is a much much better player so our offer should be higher. Therefore not just focussing on a ruck.

From what Roo said sounds like he believes Marshall would play the 'Bruce' role better than Bruce (ie forward / ruck) and a new ruckman would play the 'ruck' role better than Marshall.

* I don't really agree with him either I am just pointing out that much better footy brains than any of us seem to have opposing views.
