Seems very lazy journalism to me to suggest that in that mid-season rookie draft our main need is outside midfield. That is so 2017.

Unless they're an upgrade on Billings, Newnes and Sincs in particular, they'd just be depth, and we don't really need depth there either, since we have so many others who can play there, like Acres, Hunter, Lonie, Long, Phillips, possibly Hind, Coffield, Paton, etc.

Then there's also Seb who can play there now very effectively if Stuv starts playing midfield more permanently again. Not to mention Hanners if we or someone else can solve his hammy issues.

Sure if there was someone with blistering speed, like a Sydney-version Lewis Jetta, who also had the tank to play wing they'd be a good get, but they don't exactly grow on trees!

Grabbing Jones would be a very smart move. We need inside mids and contested ball winners.

Here's one from left field Zorko.

Crouch brothers might want a sea change.

What happened to will Brodie?

Nothing happened to Will Brodie beyond Dew still doesn’t rate him. Not a great athlete and butchers the ball. Was the best contested pig from his year level but hasn’t translated it to AFL yet.

Now stavro#4 can chime in if my mail is incorrect but we would have picked him in 2016 if Hawthorn didn’t go all in JOM. Probably for the best now that he would be a second rounder at absolute best and based of what Scrimshaw went for probably a third rounder.

There’s the entire year to play out and I have no doubt that he’ll get a look in eventually this year but hopefully not enough and he wants a move.

What annoys me is that I’ve heard the campaigners in Essendon are keen on him as well.

We finally offload Armo's huge salary end of this year.

Could it be that we finally start playing a brand of footy that TWO gun mids are attracted to?

Whilst I like your thinking, I feel we have long offloaded it; a restructuring of his contract to front-load his pay, when we were sitting on cap space and not landing talent, would have been one of the first list moves, IMO.

I’d say it’s easier to re-jig a contract, with set money and years, than to create a new one that is wonderfully structured (our young players). Plus, we have to ensure that the final year of a contract isn’t too low, because I believe that’s what is used to determine free agency status (restricted/unrestricted); something that isn’t a concern for Armo.
Perhaps they’ve revised this, but it’s definitely been this way in the past, IIRC.

Hind?

Armitage's salary has not had ANY impact at all on our ability to trade. NONE... TOTALLY irrelevant.

Armitage’s 600k salary probably gets split (or thereabouts) to top up Billings’ & Gresham’s new deal. That alone should ensure Billings & Gresham are on approx 700-800k a year each.

I reckon we should grab an inside mid to replace Dunstan and Armo. In that article:

Hugh Greenwood
Brayden Sier
Will Brodie

Would we take any of those?

As of now none of those three are upgrades on Dunstan however Sier & Brodie have potential to be an upgrade.

Greenwood is a low possession but high percentage contested player. Similar to Dunstan.

Brodie’s knock is his ability to spread. Remind you of anyone?

Sier looks the best out of the three but also the less likely to leave IMO.

This might be a bit of interest - King brothers and Bytel

When this first came out l thought it was a good clue as to how Jack Bytel was rated by those ITK. Just the fact that the 3 other blokes went at 1, 4 and 6 suggests we got ourselves a top 10 kid.
