It will be a massive question mark hanging over them if they ever pursue professional sports, unfortunately.

I reckon more is more chance of not having enough ability than worrying about a heart condition 15 years down the track.

Slight overs imo given we don't know if the Kings can play yet. And we don't desperately need tall backs. But I'd still do it - I rate Martin in a good system, and reuniting the Kings would be nice and romantic.

I think it would be considered unders for a former pick #1 who is still young and last years pick #6 in a superdraft. Obviously depends where we finish each year though.

2019 AFL Free Agents we should prioritise. (info from club websites)

Cam Ellis-Yolmen, 26 - Height 190 cm Weight 96 kg
Ellis-Yolmen was let go from Adelaide’s senior list at the end of the 2017 season after rupturing his ACL in the JLT Community Series, but has been redrafted as a rookie. The big-bodied clearance winner worked diligently in his rehabilitation and returned to pre-season training with his 1-4 year teammates – a fortnight earlier than required. Will be out to prove himself again and add to his 14 AFL games.

Alex Sexton, 25 - Height 186 cm Weight 83 kg

He was used in a couple of roles, predominately as a pressure goal-scoring forward, but also enjoyed stints on the wing and the occasional run-with role. His flexibility made him a big asset to Stuart Dew, but Sexton also said the consistency of playing the majority of his football in the forward line helped his game last year.

Stephen Coniglio, 25 Height 182 cm Weight 86 kg

Bounced back from two serious ankle injuries in 2017 to again stamp himself as one of the game’s best two-way midfielders last season. Ranked second at the GIANTS for clearances, contested possessions and tackles, Coniglio was a surprise omission from the All-Australian squad. His 643 possessions for the year was one shy of his career-best and came at an average of 28 a game, but he also added 24 goals while playing forward to pick up some of the scoring the GIANTS missed with Toby Greene injured. The West Australian’s leadership in big games was again massive and his midfield presence will be even more crucial in 2019.

Adam Tomlinson, 25 - Height 194 cm Weight 96 kg

Played every game for the first time in a career-best season mostly on a wing, averaging 16.6 possessions and booting 12 goals, after being an important member of the GIANTS’ defence. With Tom Scully injured and Lachie Whitfield needed in defence, Tomlinson used his elite running ability to cover plenty of territory, and because of his height and athleticism, he was a tough match-up for opposition teams. Capable of playing at either end of the ground in the key positions and pinch-hitting in the ruck, Tomlinson is a valuable weapon for the GIANTS.

Coniglio - AA Midfielder

Tomlinson, would provide some great flexibility able to play defence or on the wing.

Sexton - Goal Kicking Potency

Yolmen - Fringe Player, whom has lots of talent, can pinch hit in the ruck - similar to acres?

Sexton looks a gun this year.

We don't know if anyone in next years draft can play yet either. I'd say if we rated Ben King highly last year we'd do that deal.

I say they don’t do the deal. Why would they get him and trade him for around the same pick or worse after only one year. I’m not sure we need him anyway.

I'm not sure he'd cost a lot, you can't expect anymore than a second round pick for a guy that can't cement a spot in the 22.

I was impressed with his in his first year or two. Seems to have been played out of position since.

Parish wouldn’t cost a lot? What are you smoking? We’re talking about trying to deal with bloody Dodoro again!

Sexton has already signed long term with GC. Yolmen, yuck. Tomlinson, yuck. Martin, yes. What about 2020 1st + 2019 1st for Martin & King. I would do that.
You should read how New England have beaten the system for 18 years under Bill Belichick.

It’s fascinating reading but basically they haven’t done it by trading away future picks, picking talent over need or getting sentimental about their own players. They have helped other teams to beat themselves and made a killing themselves whilst doing so.

I’m pretty sure our new stats guy would be all over it but I would have been happier if the Patriots were on the list of NFL teams we visited.

I reckon half the planet would want to visit Foxborough to pick their brains!

I don't think they would be happy about it but if he says he is homesick and is definitely leaving the year after anyway then a our 1st could do it

I'd hesitate to trade a future first unless it really results in us getting a elite player in return.

Yep, an elite player with 7 to 10 years left. No geriatrics.

I would think with Carlisle back we are going to be pretty well stacked for life post Brown. Clav and Joyce look good too. Not many super tall KPBs any more as teams prefer quick intercept players these days.

Why though, you are not guaranteed of anything when taking it to the draft either

We need guns not more good players. Even Jones from Sydney is a better than average choice because he replaces Stuv if he retires. Means we don't lose structure or too much quality. To me a gun mid is still missing.

Ben King is quick though - much quicker than Carlisle. Many think Max will be a gun, imagine having 2 of the b****ds?!

But can you use two of them? It might be like having 2 dicks. You don't know what to do with one while the other is occupied. Even worse what if thy both end up like Tyrone Vickery.

If he was contracted I'd be worried, but he isn't. Dodoro talks the talk, but in the end he needs to deal fairly like the rest of the AFL clubs. Look what he was forced to give up for Shiel last year after thinking he'd get him for SFA.

What would you honestly think he'd be demanding for a fringe player in his 4th year of footy?

Pick 1 and a player.

Yeah I've got no doubt they tell us to GAGF, I was only speaking hypothetically.

I think there's still need for a quality key back though, not as much as an elite mid obviously.

Brown is 31 this year and Carlisle is 28 and coming off back surgery.

Battle has looked promising since going back but still yet to prove a lot, Austin looks like a disappointment and Clav wasn't exactly an early draft pick, hasn't shown a lot yet and is suited more to the third tall role.

King would take a couple of years to develop but would hopefully be right up and running by the time Brown and Carlisle are near the end.

That's really poor logic.
Its ok to trade picks for mediocrity because no guarantee of getting an elite in the draft.

Yet SOMETIMES people get someone elite from the draft.
You want to rule out that "sometimes"?

Im not sure what you are talking about. Who is the mediocre player I want to trade for? Ben King or Jack Martin?
