Belichick is incredibly difficult to predict and gives nothing away to the media but there are plenty of articles on what they have done over the years.

That’s just an old story that highlights how they have created value by smart trading. There are countless pieces on them and many would argue that without Belichick and Brady you couldn’t be successful using their strategy. Plenty of teams have had countless high draft picks and have been terrible, the patriots haven’t had any and have been great. They have a current 15 year streak I think where they have had at least 1 undrafted free agent on their final squad.

It’s a different game with different rules around recruiting and cutting players but it appears obvious that high draft picks are at least somewhat overrated. Just as the article below shows the importance of late picks or players recruited from lower leagues. Wilkie and Parker for example have surprised a lot of people, they shouldn’t have.

It’s food for thought, anyway it’s draft day today and for the next few days I’ll be watching with interest what the Patriots do.
Legend, thank you

It's a lot easier to look good in a good side than an average one. At GWS there were more players getting tagged and more players getting the ball out to him. At Essendon it's a different story.
When you're looking at getting players from other clubs it's always worth thinking about how they would perform in a different team.

HS reporting that we are one of 3 Vic clubs in the hunt for Conglio, but he is set to start contract talks with the Giants within the next month.

They are also reporting Josh Kelly is close to signing on.

I love cogs and would take him in a heartbeat. But would take whitfield in half a heartbeat if we could prize him out a year early

Shiel's skills let him down on occasions yesterday but he was also one of the main reasons Essendon were able to get back in the game. He was the bombers best player.

Whitfield seems like the type that will stay with the Giants for his career I reckon.

Maybe, but it can't hurt to dream a little

Has anyone had a look at Sandy dragons this year, Ryan Byrnes is meant to be a bit of a fast mid who racks up numbers. Supposedly a first rounder and sounds like what we need.
Yep I absolutely rate him. If anyone gets a chance to watch any of his games I think he is exactly what we need. Think Luke shuey.. I reckon he goes late first round early second

And Hawthorn is another...

I still think Sydney are more vulnerable than GWS.

Buddys contract goes up each year.

Hanners said more would leave.

They had to shed a bunch of players to keep themselves under the cap and had to keep tippet on the rookie list still.

I'd move our eye from GWS and put it firmly on Sydney. Jones and Parker would be the one I'd go hammer and tongs for.

Their shit year might be causing some angst and realisation there's a decent rebuild on the way.

Outside of the obvious one in Heeney (who you'd think will not be going anywhere) the only Swan who really excites me is Florent. OOC 2020

Yeah, I hate him because he chose Essendon over us, but I see him like Stuv, he's fast and sometimes very messy but he's able to motor away and grab the ball one touch and go. He is a bit worse than Stuv with his kicking but he makes stuff happen still.

Pretty sure Shiel got 10 CV's last week.

Would love to have him, but as I spoke about a fair bit last year, his kicking for someone who looks like they can kick the ball leaves a lot to be desired, and his kicking for goal is even worse, so for what he would have cost us (including probably Winx) it's quite probably better that he didn't choose us, as much as it would be great to have him.

Wouldn’t mind Mr Coniglio. He is one that would suit our game plan exceptionally well. If we can get Hanners right and add Coniglio in the mix, hello September. But seriously, throw the book at him. Gubby, do your thing.
Get Billy Slater to talk to him

I just want a Rozee. Surely we get one soon.. a kid that you know from the moment they step out, will be a 250 game superstar. Yes, King will be a 250 game, 850 goal superstar, but we’ll have to wait a little while before we see it.

I didn’t think a skinny kid would have such an immediate impact. He looks like being a jet!

I'm no good with waiting, I might have majorly ****ed up following a side that averages one premiership every 160 years. I also get nervous when more and more players out of the top end of a single draft come good, you know the averages mean there are only about 3 out of most top 10s.
