The best pointer I can possibly give - we didn’t get Gubby in for nothing. He’s on a 2yr contract for these exact scenarios. It’s the first time we’ve actively done something to get these players. A first time for a lot of things.. which is why I’m so upbeat over the next few years. We’re starting to look like a professional outfit behind the scenes.

Now for M King to deliver what we all know he can. There will be mids lining up just to have the pleasure of kicking to him.

Will he take requests?
If he can’t get Kelly then Whitfield or Coniglio will do just fine thanks!

He's one of our few AFL quality mids and has improved every year. I don't see why you would lose him unless you are getting an upgrade. Giving up Ross and another good player or pick for a good player both might give a slight upgrade but we are better to recruit through the draft and add to the pile. If we get such a good midfield that he's expendable, then we have managed to develop and draft another heap of mids.

Geelong has Parfitt, Ablett, Danger, Selwood, Cockatoo, Kelly, Menagola, Fogarty, Guthrie and Constable. All can play midfield and have shown something or are good to elite. When you put our mids up against theirs we look light weight.

Ross, Steele, Billings and Gresham the only ones likely to make their side and most not as mids, Seb probably the most likely to actually get a midfield game.
I think Jack Steven might be upset with your assessment

I got me a new red cap for the footy.

It has MSKGA on it.

Thoughts?
My thoughts are we should trade Ross for a 2nd rounder as we have developed two match winning mids in Billings and Gres.

Trust me. All the other mids are rubbish, they are not even real mids, they are fake mids.

I have the best mids, many people tell me so, many many people.

Anything else is fake. Its fake news. Sad.

Lol had to read that twice. Good work.

Don't forget...

When we trade it will be huge. We will win so big. Bigger than you'd ever imagine.

Free agency , academy picks , father son picks, and plucking guns out of nowhere is the only way our list is gonna balance on the correct side of the ledger . Trading Ross out and future picks may improve the list slightly as someone has already mentioned but let’s not kid ourselves, when free agent guns are just walking in the doors of hawthorn, Essendon year in year out it’s a kick in the guts each time and a free boost for them .
Yeh there’s a salary cap which you not only want maxxed out , and not just because you have to , to 95% but you need quality players bonding together, forming a pact to take pay cuts to keep the team together.
That’s when you know you’re on the right track .
Somehow we have to sell the club and get a couple on board .
I would love to see King play two or three games to finish the season to show potential players the future. Let Gubby do his shit and even if that means trading decent players in the future it’s the free agents that give you equity.
Equity mate !

Just went outside and found this on my front lawn...

God i'm slow!

How dare you jump on my trade Ross mantra i have been banging on about for a year!
Get your own half baked, poorly thought out trade!

Just when i was coming around to the lad, now everyone else wants to get rid of him!
You disloyal charletains! :moustache:

Im fairly close with the ceo up there. Was speaking with him right in the middle of it all. He said it’s basically between us and them, and Josh had legitimately not made his mind up.

Now fast forward 2 years, could be completely different.. he may very well stay there for his career or go to Hawthorn or sign with us on monster coin.. who knows.

That’s funny given the interviews he gave after he signed with GWS, he didn’t mention us once, and instead spoke entirely about how it was either GWS or North Melbourne.

Although to answer your original question - I would do that trade in a heartbeat but I struggle to see why GWS would take it. But I’m guessing that wasn’t the point of your hypothetical.

If I can remember right, he didn’t mention Carlton, Hawthorn or Essendon either and they were initially in the hunt. North was the easy one to talk about, given they had publically stated their offer and journos ran with it. Anyway doesn’t matter - he’s at Gws and no one else at this point in time

1 x second for Ross. Thirds for the other two.

And I'm not being smart either.
You did say this when asked what do you hope to get for him
and a 2nd for Ross is not an upgrade

Hey sorry if the response came across that way. I wasn't implying that.

I don't believe you trade for the sake of it either.

You do however look at all options to improve your list. Some think we have enough talent, I disagree.

Hope to be proven wrong and totally stupid at the end of the year.

Right now apart from a first round pick, and low probability of a quoting a gun FA.

So if we want quality, something has to give.

Anyway, I have few spare trout if you like fish...

Edit: That was a text error on my post. Should have read Do you think, nor Do you think.
Fair enough mate.

If you are talking about bringing in a gun from another club then I agree, anything could be on the table.

If we are talking about just trading players for picks I don't necessarily see the point.

As it stands we have pick 13, 60 and 61.

Would really like to get a FA like Ellis or even Tomlinson to help build that depth.

We then either take the best mid available with our first (likely to be a bit higher than 13) or throw the kitchen sink at a gun midfielder.

Never mentioned trading for picks. Was asked what value I put on each player.

All good.

Well the best way to start enticing one of those GWS lads would be to pull their collective pants down on their dung heap this weekend.

Get it done lads

I think that’s the point though Gringo? If Seb is part of a trade that lands us Kelly or Coniglio - would you say no? There are many different scenarios to get there, but he’s part of the solution to strengthen our list, of course you’d do it.

Would you just give him away for nothing? Of course not..

Selling him for a draft pick which the estimate was a second rounder would be beyond dumb management. Considering we are poor with top end drafting it would be mismanagement beyond reason. Acres and Dunstan have had a long time and aren't really set best 22 yet. They should be expendable even though I think Acres is worth more to us in potential than trade value.

If he gets us Kelly that's fine but it would take Seb and a first or something close to get Kelly and he's been only good rather than great lately. I'm not sure it's a huge upgrade for the position we are in. We would wipe out next years draft and really only have academy picks. That first round pick might miss the next Kelly, Taranto or Hopper while losing Ross. I would rather take a pick and keep Seb for safety. So Far selling Mc Evoy, Dal, Goddard and Stanley hasn't netted us a better result. To me following that path would be insanity.

Parker's going nowhere.
He did an interview saying he was happy for the fresh start and was hanging with a bad crowd. Wants to stick it up the neigh sayers and such. We gave the kid his dream life so why would he want to go back ever..

Bloody neigh sayers

What's your point?

Picks 20-25 are 2nd round picks and that's what i put him at. Concede I wasn't specific enough in my answer.

Now go back and find the post where I said we should just trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Get back to me when you do, or by Christmas... Whichever comes first.

Brandon Ellis is someone I'm surprised we haven't been linked with.

Seems like he's got a need more so than Tomlinson. He's a free agent, very quick, finds plenty of the footy, versatile and can kick a goal.
Average player. Soft as well( there's a reas o n why he's called suitcase). Also an average kick
