Yeah, it would be too much. I wonder if we'd do our first pick around 10 to 12 for Jones and their second round pick which I imagine would be around 20 or so. That might be a decent deal for us. We would rather a player we can use now and the draft hasn't been kind to us at the top end.

Sometimes its almost as if its too hard to pick the best player, its easier to pick the one who "might be good" from the leftovers.

We seem to have got good at left field selection based on last year.

Not a chance imo.

Shiel is a very nice player but the thought of us offering him 1.4M is scary. I don’t think he’ll ever be a top 5 player in the comp to justify that sort of money.

I'm starting to wonder if playing for GWS makes ordinary players look extraordinary. I've brought it up before that no GWS superstar has gone on to big things at other clubs.
I don't mean to imply they're a club full of duds, but rather they are such a great team it makes individuals look better than they really are.

Too much back or too much to pay? Sydney media really get stuck into Jones, I can imagine him wanting out and Sydney need to get some talent I to fast track their rebuild. They went and picked Simon Dalrymple and still have Beatson there, they would back their system to identify elite talent, that would give them two first rounders to pick up some guns. They are legitimately rebuilding while we should be building up.

Heaps of their fringe talent has gone on to be very high level as well though. There is a bit of a mixed bag, Devon Smith looked better out of there but has dropped off this year. Hoskins-Elliott way better, Adams, Cam Mc Carthy, Steele etc all look good but Treloar is probably the only star player they have let go. Ahern looked like he could be gun last year too.

Why I go for that.
I’m not, you’re trading out of the high end player range into the yeah but players just like Jones is himself.

So instead of us ending up with a potential A grade talent we’re left with two good ordinary players and Sydney are taking two first round picks and can’t stop smiling. I don’t have any problem trading our first but it must be for an A grade mid.

Exactly anyone who has ever played a team sport knows how much easier it is when you’re surrounded by talent and winning.

That’s why I’m still fairly bullish on the saints, we just need two or three players and the lift they provide to be right in the mix. Pick any three players you like add them to our list and we play finals imo. I’ll take Martin, Cripps and Kelly, how do we look now?

They have talent despite hearing the crap that they have no early picks, Blakey, mills and Heeney what a joke.

They are after talent but kids need senior soldiers around them so maybe they try to keep Jones, either way I’m never trading out of the first round for a guy like that. He’s just a player, he has some speed and isn’t afraid to attack the contest but his skills are poor and he’s just another small 20 possession mid. Jones is a draft miss from them imo he was a reach like dunstan, both going to play but with low ceilings.

Think about that trade from their point of view, you reached at I think 15 and the saints give you a better pick for him and a second, its pitchfork stuff imo. Im not sure I want him for a second rounder, he’s just more of the same.

Anyone got any ideas about where the Bing acquisition sits on our radar? I'd have thought our future 1st would be a good trading chip this year, but if were waiting for Bing to be OOC and force a trade then it's kind of off limits.
Haven’t seen enough of him yet to get excited and there’s the question of can you play two players of that size in the same team as keys.

My guess is their desperate to sign him and we’re in someone’s ear if not his saying don’t do it, wait and see. It’s very interesting and one to watch for sure.

Talk that he's keen to move back along with Pappley, he seems like he's all over the place, one week he looks like the best forward in the side, the next he's unsighted.

I reckon we could get Jones and Pappley for our round one pick. Would you do that?

Yeah, my worry is that's a lot of height to carry. There really aren't many super tall backs these days with the intercept defenders being the fashion. You'd almost need to rotate them as ruck forwards if you played both. Marshall looks too good to want to do that though. 2 times 200cm forwards gives you limited chase out of the forward line and goes against the type of game plan we play with pressure over coming our lack of fire power.

I'd say Jones is an above average but no star. You'd definitely want to see what the draft is looking like and where we were likely to land first. If Stuv goes it will set us back and he's like a slightly shitter version. He's has still got scope to go from above average to A grade.

I'm not sure the size of them is much of an issue with the Kings because of their agility and mobility. Also Jake is starting to get long in the tooth so l look at Bing as being a like for like replacement in a couple of years. It's not often that a quality player actually wants to come to us as their 1st preference so we'd be mad not to exercise the option if it's there. I think with Brownie at the end of his career, Jake with a dodgy back and not many years left, and Austin no better than a maybe, we're relying on Joyce and Clav which is not exactly ideal..

I see where you’re coming from but I really don’t rate this guy at all, I think he’s a B grader on his best day.

He’s 25 before next season so he’s coming right into his sweet zone, generally he doesn’t use it well but he’s having a breakout year in terms of getting his hands on the ball. We’re desperate for mids so I guess anything can happen but I would still be very disappointed to burn a first on him.

For a 1st, no way. Maybe combined with papley. You would take him for a 2nd though. Certainly an upgrade on Dunstan/Mckenzie imo and 2nd rounders are a 50/50 shot at something decent, and not necessarily better than Jones. If you can’t get stars you can’t keep turning away from upgrades on your list.

Still shocked at the lack of Josh Dunkley interest in here.

Watching the dogs game and they are finally playing him in the midfield. 12 minutes in he has 8 disposals (6 contested), 2 clearences and 100% by foot

His overall DE isn't perfect, but he does all of his work at the coalface. All the good ones like that (Danger, Fyfe etc) aren't great by foot.

Close to the most improved player back end of last year. We should be all over him!

Agree. Always liked him as a big bodied mid. Has played a lot forward due to their midfield depth. I’d have no issue paying up pick 8-12 for him.

19 CPs to 3QT. Get this man in the team

He hasn’t shown much yet, but could be worth a shot given our lack of depth, he has “potential” for sure, but we have a few of those players who have caused headaches.

Yeah would be worth a shot, as you say, if we didn't need to give up anything for him .
