and?
we didnt need another middle of the rung, solid citizen midfielder.
I don’t disagree with the comment about two tier system. This has pretty much been the case for a decade. Two teams per state at minimum for tv rights ( I.e always one team plays in the state and the other travelling ) and then your top tier marketing teams. We aren't in the frame for anybody.
The AFL will become a two tier system, with 6 clubs getting all the good players and teams like the Saints getting second raters.
We will be there just to make up the numbers.
The AFL and PA have let this happen with FA and we will never rise.
Can also forget a second premiership.
Considered this for a while but after 30 years of membership, seriously will consider not renewing in 2020.
What is the point when we have no hope. The AFL have created this and are happy for us to languish.

??... He’s out for the year.. more tests on his condition and assess end of year. What's the update with Robbo? Haven't been on in a week or so, so I think I missed the news.
Out for the year? Yikes... also sorry I figured I'd put my q in a different thread haha. Thanks though, good to know even though that's no good.??... He’s out for the year.. more tests on his condition and assess end of year.
And yes, I have changed tack. Sick of playing the Pollyanna defending this useless club.
I am going full blown curmudgeon this season, expecting absolutely nothing and any morsel of improvement will be a blessing.
When you all come to the realisation that supporting this club in the forlorn hope of a second flag went at the siren of the first 2010 Grand Final, you will understand that our situation is hopeless.
Some might say the AFL will help us out. Fat chance. They know there are about 50k rusted on supporters who have drunk the kool aide. They will let us struggle while pumping resources into GC and Bris and GWS.
We are there to make up the numbers only. We wont attract a Lynch (Richmond) or a Sheil ( Essendon), they good players want to go to the powerful blockbuster teams.
How anyone thinks a Kelly, or Hopper would come to us when a Collingwood or Hawthorn are interested is deluded.
We will lose a coach this year, mean 2020 will be transition. We again need to trade into the draft meaning anything we have of value will be on the table. Our 'warchest' has meant nothing.
Carlton and Richmond gets the first game every year, we get 1.00 Sunday v GC with major train lines out. That is our place in the AFL in a nutshell. We are nothing but a bargaining tool for the AFL for broadcast rights.
We discuss and argue and ruminate on here and nothing changes. We are bottom eight and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
Bleak? Pessimistic? Overreaction? Well all that is a possibility, but look at us since 2010 and tell me it isn't accurate.

He averages 11 contested possessions, 5 clearances per game when he gets a good shot at it.
Good moneyball pickup by the Suns. Better than Dunstan.
( I hope Luke reads this and responds to prove me wrong ).
I can't quite see what it is we are trying to do, we need someone to start winning CPs but don't seem in a rush to address it. Having no experienced rucks available and cutting one was a bit strange to be honest as well. Our luck they start to allow rucks to grab the ball from the ruck so that mobile rucks like Hickey might not be as much of a liability.
Hickey was one of our biggest contested ball winners :/
Welcome aboard the grumpy old campaigner bus. The Lions have turned around from worse, Melbourne, even Carton are starting to show shoots. I think I might have gone ECO finally, I kind of don't feel as sick about being shit any more, I've done my mourning. I hope it's like when you decide to stop trying to be cool you actually become cool kind of shit.
You don’t think you might wait, oh I don’t know, three or four rounds before throwing in the towel?
Do not tell me you are believing all the media hype about Carlton. You don’t think we have green shoots in Clark, Coffield, even Irish the way he seems to be coming on? You’re not in the least excited about what we may have in Parker, Hind etc?
Get a grip man, the first ball hasn’t even been kicked in anger and you’re depressing the hell out of me. It’s too soon for the “woe is us” thing.

Clark and Coffield don't look like Cripps ( already a top 10 in the comp mid) Curnow who looks like tracking to be a special player etc. They have a very good spread of talent similar to ours as well with guys like Dow and Walsh along with SPS, Mc Kay, Fisher etc. They look like they have started to recruit quite well with some potential stars. Gresham and Steele are our best too young players with Billings and Acres needing to actually show something this year or end up GOPs.
Unfortunately I don’t think we are in the frame for Kelly & Cogs (I think they’ll stay put anyway) so you may be right. But we’ve got to spend the money somewhere! Or we could pay Lonie 700k per year?
They had so many #1 and top draft picks in Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer etc etc...how well did that work for them?
You say Cripps, I’ll give you Roo. One player doesn’t cut it. You need a team, you need luck with injuries and luck generally. Clark and Coff have played one season.
How about GWS? Arguably the best collection of top draft picks in history, yet no flags.
Comparisons are just going to make you miserable. A great team is going to be the sum of its parts, you can’t hang your hat on one, or two, special players. Surely our history proves that in spades.

We seem to have the worst of both, poor list and poor output on field.

Collingwood had one of the most even teams in 2010.Yep, a champion team will always beat a team of champions. Roo is right in recently saying that the best teams of the past few years have been ones that rely less on players because they have a well designed structure that all buy into. Hawthorn is the big one obviously, but Richmond’s structure was squarely responsible for a lot of its turnaround in success. West Coast is the definition of a structure team imo.
The only exception is the Doggies who sort of rode internal belief more than anything else
And he's worth every one of those 700 krispy donuts.Unfortunately I don’t think we are in the frame for Kelly & Cogs (I think they’ll stay put anyway) so you may be right. But we’ve got to spend the money somewhere! Or we could pay Lonie 700k per year?
