Parish has been so underwhelming since being drafted. He’s not a massive accumulator, he’s not a contested beast & he isn’t damaging. Very vanilla. For what he would cost, pass!
A poor man Phillips. Has been hugely unimpressive

I totally disagree. Even with his current output he’s a very good player. He’s surprisingly a really tough player that wins his own footy & tackles really hard. He’s more like a better version of Ben Long than the players you mentioned. Savage, really?

Yes he's a better version of ben long on a good day.

Just like how kosi was a better version of even nick riewoldt on a good day.

My point is he would be an instant inclusion into the whipping boy hall of fame due to the infrequency of said good days.

Btw, he's been a pro footballer for twice as long as benny long- not sure you're making a great case for martin comparing him favourably against a kid.

If martin had shown ANY ability to play as a mid then that would be a different story... we are still desperately lacking A grade midfield depth.
but he hasn't.

(Don't give me that- oh but he COULD be a mid fairytale... remember when everyone was upset we missed out on stringer because he was going to be a bombers midfielder?? Yeah that lasted about half a preseason game didn't it?)

We're much better off pursuing young potential future A grade mids (like we did with steele, pies did with treloar etc) than taking consolation prizes like martin.

Take a look at north, port, essendon - everyone on here was bangin on about how they killed it because they traded for guys like hall, rockliff, saad polec etc and we missed out big time.

Newsflash- those types are a dime a dozen- you dont need to spend up big to get inconsistent wingers who can't play midfield.

Sure he wouldn't hurt the team, but he would only move us 1% closer to a flag when we're still 40% off being a realistic shot.

We'd get much better bang for our buck (trade and cap wise) pursuing targets which address our midfield class problems.

We need to be trying to shake the next jack steele loose from somewhere- which will use all the trade currency we can muster.

We could just wait a year for ben long or parker to continue to improve and we have our own jack martin for free.

I'm not sure he'd cost a lot, you can't expect anymore than a second round pick for a guy that can't cement a spot in the 22.

I was impressed with his in his first year or two. Seems to have been played out of position since.
His kicking is a worry.. can absolutely butcher it. I’d rather go for pure skills for someone we’re after on the outside.

I disagree with just about everything you just typed.

I’m sorry but Martin is well ahead of Ben Long in the talent stakes, regardless of how much longer Martin has been in the system for & I’m a Ben Long fan.

Martin has potential to be an A grade mid. Have a look at his numbers & heat map this year. Even better watch some of his games. His disposals are up, he’s winning a high percentage of contested possessions & he’s a tackling machine.

I don’t recall saying North or Port “killed it” with regard to trading in players. I thought a lot of the players they brought in were very average with the exception of Rockclif who is a proven ball winner & big time accumulator - far from an inconsistent winger who can’t play midfield. Seriously?

With today’s footy moving towards players capable of playing multiple positions & having elite athletic traits to perform various roles Martin would be ideal. You can plug him in just about anywhere.

You want midfield class but you don’t want Martin. In all seriousness, I suspect you are confusing Martin for somebody else. Rocklif as well.

If Martin agreed to come to us you couldn’t say no. Simple as that. He adds a lot of quality attributes to our team. More consistency will come. He’s still only 24 & similar age to Acres, Billings, Sinclair, etc who are only now finding consistency.

Fair enough, his skills can let him down at times.

Not sure Parish is an outside type though, seemed like he was tracking to be a pretty good inside mid in his early days.

I think you're confusing 5 games with martins entire career.... and adjudging accordingly.

We absolutely can and should say no if martin comes with a trade pricetag that isn't in the 'bargain' ballpark (ala steele for a future 2nd).

GC wanted 2 x first rounders off Essendon last year. He’s not coming cheaply. I myself would be happy to give our first round pick this year. If that happens to fall pick 12 or above..

I assume you went to the same player recruitment school as Adrian Dodoro?

He’s worth more than a future second & rightfully so. If he decides to leave the GC see what he’s rated within the industry. Hot tip: you are nowhere near it.

That seems fair but I think the greedy campaigners would want a little extra on top. Maybe a late pick swap.

Draft picks are overrated, how many late picks & rookies are in our team at the moment while 2 top 10 picks are playing for Sandy.

Martin immediately plays & makes us better for it. Plus he’s still got a lot of footy ahead of him & improvement to go with it.

I heard it on the herald sun podcast with Robbo & BT. They seemed to think it was legit.

That's insane. I think he's a promising key forward but he's shown **** all at AFL level. Membrey might get that much, but no other tall forward would be worth that coin at our club, and I'd rate almost every tall forward at our club over Weideman.

He’s only 21 & probably sees campaigners like Boyd & Hogan getting massive deals as young key forwards.

He had a really good finals series last year, prob been drinking his own bath water like all his teammates & has overestimated his value.

He's played a few decent games at AFL but been missing more often than not. 650k... He's dreeeeaaaamin'. Unless it's just posturing for a better deal with the Dees.

Yeah, it's everywhere, apparently set his own price and isn't even playing like a $200,000 player right now.
