Given Parker was Pick 47 and is playing well , and Hind Pick 54 and on the verge of selection , it's fair to say the latter part of the 2018 Draft , was a success for the club. Even if Young ( a late 60's pick ) flops.
Having to wait so long to see Max King and Jack Bytel play is killing me , as it's not only their talent I want to have a look at , but it will be a great indicator of how good Libba is , especially in Bytel's case.
Gut feeling is he's way better than Trout.
Don't forget Wilkie in the rookie draft

Not sure what was immature about my question.

I don't see the point in trading out our best mids when we need to improve our midfield and I don't think we'd get anything worth while for the guys playing VFL.

We've got a mid developing nicely in the VFL and we've got one that will hopefully recover well from back surgery.

We then have a first round pick this year and next we can either use to take a mid or to trade one in.

We've shown last year that there is plenty of quality at the back end of the draft.

Unless we have a surplus of needs I just don't see the point in trading players out. I finally feel like we are building a bit of depth.

Hey sorry if the response came across that way. I wasn't implying that.

I don't believe you trade for the sake of it either.

You do however look at all options to improve your list. Some think we have enough talent, I disagree.

Hope to be proven wrong and totally stupid at the end of the year.

Right now apart from a first round pick, and low probability of a quoting a gun FA.

So if we want quality, something has to give.

Anyway, I have few spare trout if you like fish...

Edit: That was a text error on my post. Should have read Do you think, nor Do you think.

Fmd I said I think he's worth a second IMO.

Someone asked what values I put on the three players I suggested. And I did.

Never did I say we should trade him for a 2nd.

Go back, read it properly and stop acting like a dick.
I’m agreeable with all three of your players.. the way I see it with those three, not as a draft pick, but in a deal to lure an elite player of need, I.e Coniglio, Kelly or Whitfield. Or B.King and Martin... if GC wanted Ross and Dunstan + change for those two?.. can get it done..

Troll...

Who is saying to gamble?

Ross is OK as a 5th mid IMO. Pure and simple. I'd have him as B grade at very best.

The fact that he won the bnf last year means sfa given how shit we were.

So yeah, if we had him up in a trade for an elite mid, I'd roll the dice, start the car and drive him to his new destination personally.

We have plenty of our list who will reach his level and are better kicks IMO.

Never said you trade him for a pick.

Suggest you read things before winding yourself up.

We need more match winners and not 5th mids.

If you can show me an easy way to do this, I'm all ears.
Okay as a 5th mid?
Every team in the competition would happily have him in their best 22.

Would love us to sign Parker up asap. I'd hate to see him do a Tim Kelly. I think both WA clubs would be showing interest.
Parker's going nowhere.
He did an interview saying he was happy for the fresh start and was hanging with a bad crowd. Wants to stick it up the neigh sayers and such. We gave the kid his dream life so why would he want to go back ever..

Cool so if we get a first round for him even better. Then we can trade it for a decent ruckman.

Seriously, as good as he is, and I reckon he's B grade. If he was part of trade that got us someone better, I'd still do it.

When he stands up in big games on a consistent level, I'll apologise.

That's me.

Im with VDS, but I think the club sees Ross similar to Geary in that his leadership is worth more than his performance and therefore trade value

Mate I want match winners. Simple.

If it turns out to be Ross, I'm happy.

People getting antsy about trade prospects fmd.

Once again we were exposed on Saturday.

I've said it before that our effort will nullify teams, but we will be found wanting against better midfields this year.

Despite the better start, we have proven nothing. Happy to wait until the end of the year as always.

People can mock, but let's see where we are in 4 weeks from now.

Like I said, happy to be made to look like an idiot, but I can't see it happening.

If these guys don't continue to step up, we are going in circles.

I think we often love our players so much that we overate their value. The truth is most of them are expendable, for the right price. Untouchables are pretty bloody rare. In my time (moved to melbourne in 2000 about 11 years old) there's been Roo, Harvey, Hayes, Milne, Loewe, Burke, Hudghton

Dal and Goddard would have made that list too had they not been traded by the idiot who we will not mention.

And even then that list gets smaller when we're talking career twilight. Basically to Roo, Harvey and Hayes.

Ultimately if you can grab a an out and out star in a position you lack you gotta do it.

Ross is a lovely fella, but he's not the elite mid we need. Billings and Gresham have a good chance of becoming that, so they're not part of the conversation.

But it's rare that everything lines up anyway

He's one of our few AFL quality mids and has improved every year. I don't see why you would lose him unless you are getting an upgrade. Giving up Ross and another good player or pick for a good player both might give a slight upgrade but we are better to recruit through the draft and add to the pile. If we get such a good midfield that he's expendable, then we have managed to develop and draft another heap of mids.

Geelong has Parfitt, Ablett, Danger, Selwood, Cockatoo, Kelly, Menagola, Fogarty, Guthrie and Constable. All can play midfield and have shown something or are good to elite. When you put our mids up against theirs we look light weight.

Ross, Steele, Billings and Gresham the only ones likely to make their side and most not as mids, Seb probably the most likely to actually get a midfield game.

Thats all well and good but when Seb is currently our best midfielder and obvious next captain, trading him away is just stupid suggestion. How is trading away one of our best players going to help us improve to attract better players? No star midfielder is going to want to come to a club without any another quality midfielder in it leaving them with no support.

Obviously there is the never going to happen situation where Freo come to us and say they are willing to give us Fyfe if we give them Seb. Of course in that mythical world we would do the deal. But in reality, that's not going to happen and we need high quality AFL players like Seb to help us move towards finals.

Just kidding Milka. That's where I was coming from. Thank you for actually reading the posts.
Milka is the best nickname I’ve ever had..

But honestly, agreed. Seb is a good 3rd-4th mid. Acres hasn’t lived to the hype and Dunstan struggles to make seniors. If any of them help us get elite talent, it’s not giving the farm away.

I think that’s the point though Gringo? If Seb is part of a trade that lands us Kelly or Coniglio - would you say no? There are many different scenarios to get there, but he’s part of the solution to strengthen our list, of course you’d do it.

Would you just give him away for nothing? Of course not..

Seb is one of our best performers , Acres is injury free and at 23 is ready to show something and people want to trade them

Hyperthetical - would trade Acres and Seb for Kelly and Tomilson?

If you’re going to pose a hypothetical you have to use examples who are at least a chance, which Kelly isn’t.
