Mikka like your thinking , but to offload 2 players that have been loyal to a place they wouldn't want to go - would not give the team that warm fuzzy feeling.
We just use first round draft picks - this years and next if need be , we know we have been screaming for mids as was shown on the weekend , but lets just see what happens this year before we s/it can anyone.
Ross is our captain and Acres is my great white hope - this could be his year.

We are going to have plenty of cap space
Tomlinson is a FA - will only cost money
And I'm sure 2 first round draft picks would secure a Kelly type.

We will also have plenty of squad spots to fill
McCartin
Roberton
Longer or Pierce or Both
Rice
Rowe
Dunstan will most probably leave
Armitage

You are double dipping with your top up Rookies.
McCartin/Rowe (1 spot ).
Armitage
Rice
1 of Longer or Pierce but only if we find a mature backup ruck. Otherwise we don't have enough depth.
Dunstan- I think would attract something in trade , even if its just a late pick swap.
Langlands unlikely to be retained unless he shows something.

Roberton not counted if we retain Marsh.

Seb is going nowhere

Blake is going nowhere

Stuv may well be going somewhere

Gubby will have trade chips to play with come October.

Going nowhere re trading or with their football?

The rumour of a 2nd for Ross is gaining traction.

A week ago (a long time in football no doubt), Seb and Blacres were just about untradable. I know this is the place to create conversation about how we improve the list but the club is not going to give our current Vice Captain the flick.

If one of the big names decides to head to Linton St then the trade will be done with 1st round picks and maybe role players.

I'd love to say that the reaction to a disappointing loss has been surprising but it's pretty much to form.

Not sure why this has to be seen as an overreaction to a loss TBH.

It has nothing to do with it.

So we trade Ross for a second rounder to draft a player like Ross who was drafted in the second round?

Also regarding Stuv - he’ll explore his options if we can’t find some help in there. Hates getting tagged, so much that he’d leave to a better midfield just to avoid it.

Trade pick 62 and McKenzie for Pick 52 ish.
Trade pick 52 and Billy Longer for pick 42 ish.
Trade pick 42 and Dunstan for 30 ish.
Trade 30 and Acres for 20 ish.
Draft gun player with pick 20
Simples.
Is this serious or you taking the p**s?

Taking the p**s surely: trade Pick 62 + McKenzie + Longer + Dustan + Acres for pick 20. Rubbish.

Draft a guaranteed gun with pick 20. Rubbish.

Also the little matter of 3 extra list spaces we have to fill with picks 70+.

Yeah, I'm not buying that.

The first time this season that I've read about trading Seb was this week (and I would have quite happily booted him after last season).

Personally I think he'll get better if he's not the #1 or #2 guy. If we can sign a gun mid and have the young mids continue to develop then Seb will be more consistent and more effective.

Nothing is guaranteed mate. Reckon there's more smoke to this fire though.
I dont know W2L. Reckon a top 4 side showed how easily a top class midfield can dismantle ours and in doing so, completely compromise our game plan and defensive structures.

We didnt get Gubby Allen for fun, and we have to look at value players.

Reckon Billings Gres and Steele are safe. Stuv may be on the move, I reckon players such as Ross, Acres, Newnes, DMAC, even Dunstan although not worth much will get shopped.
If Stuv goes, it takes the pressure off making wholesale changes, but reckon someone of value like Ross or Acres could go, if we get in say a Coniglio or a Kelly. Add one of those to a Martin or Jones with a fully fit Hannebery, and Clark and Coff with another season and our midfield looks totally different and much much stronger.

The one player I wouldn't trade is Steven. Now that doesn't mean he stays, it means he doesn't get shopped around. If he wants to leave which I believe is a huge chance its a completely different story. Also I believe Kelly and Coniglio will stay based on my next door neighbour. She is Whitfields auntie so would have a few clues.

i'd be ok with losing stuv if it meant more help for Steele and Ross inside... issues might be break away speed though. beyond gresham, stuv is our only really break away mid, which will come back into vogue as the rucks settle into the 6 6 6

Wouldn't you be better losing Ross than Steven if you want inside help. Ross does less inside than Jack and Jack had breakaway speed. Obviously there is a pick difference though. Jack can also play elsewhere.

Gubby wasn't recruited to enjoy the coffee.

He will have a brief to improve the list by adding the best possible players, using his network and contacts.

It's a ruthless industry and I'd see he will be ruthless in his pursuit of attracting elite players to the club.

If that means a few faves get traded, then I doubt that will stop him or the club IMO.

As it should be if we are serious about winning a flag.

If Stuv decides to leave I hope the club extract maximum value in terms of picks and / or trade.

I hope so too. Doesn't mean the club won't look at him if it means a better player.

The unknown at this stage is how much our kids will improve this year.

If at the end of the year they are tracking well, then keep them.

However, if the club is desperate to land an elite mid, then my gut feel is that those 3 plus sincs will be looked at.

Then again, never listen to my gut feel because all that comes out of it is crap.
