OMG. Thought I'd seen the last of this psycho

Ahhh, my eyes. My eyes are burning..

I won't comment on Stuv's mental issue, but i think he might of played his last game in RWB he obviously wants to live on the coast again for his well being & i think the saints showed grant his wish & trade with Geelong .

Question will be what is a fair & equatable trade early 2nd I'm thinking or a player between 15-25 on there list.

You do realise you're making yourself a target?

Surely he's worth a first?

I know its about Jack, but after getting Danger in the cheap, I'd hate for them to get Stuv below value just so we can "accommodate" him.

Sorry but business is business IMO.

Geelong won't do us any favours.

Maybe a three way deal that sees us get a better player from another club...

You may be right in saying that Stuv may have played his last game in the RWB, but if the pressures of AFL football are in anyway associated with his condition, moving from a small fish Melbourne club like St Kilda to a one team town like Geelong would be last thing he needs.

Cogs is FA. Hopper, Whitfield, Taranto are the ones I'd go after.
Hopper just signed a contract a few weeks back.

Whitfield and Taranto are signed on for next year but I suppose we could throw the kitchen sink at either and hope they look to break their contract. Unlikely though you'd think.

I think Whitfield becomes a FA next year.

Cam McCarthy is an analogous situation.

Mental health battle and contracted.
Gws held firm for a year and he sat out of footy before a suitable deal was struck.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't equally as strong in holding jack to his contract without a decent offer which reflected his status as our best player, 4× bnf, contracted, prime years etc.

Note i said "decent" offer- not amazing or a clear win for us... just an offer that fairly reflects his value.

We can, have and will be doing everything we can to help him- but not to the extent that we'd act to not only actively disadvantage the club... but also actively advantage a rival.

Actually come to think of it, beames back to Collingwood last year is an excellent precedent- very similar circumstances.
(Eg- beames wouldn't entertain going anywhere other than 1 particular club)

That was:
beames, 41, 44
For
18, pies future 1st (likely at the time 15-18 range), 56.

Sounds about right to me for jack...
late first plus a late first/early 2nd future pick
(or equivalent player(s) value thereof)

We can’t just let him go and get ****ed over again while another one just drops into Geelong lap.
As long as we’re looking after Jacks health I’ve got no problems with that.

Steven for parfitt straight swap or equivalent, or else jack stays contracted and sits out of footy for a year cam McCarthy style.

If that kind of approach is taken by the club- nothing will be 'falling in geelongs lap'

I don't see any like for like players at Geelong.
They are short on inside grunt...hence getting Tim Kelly.
Parfitt and Constable too young for them to give up for Steven.

Would need to be 1st round pick or get out.
Steak knife would be good.

Out of contract this year?

Oh.
Then we're screwed.
Jack will go for peanuts.
Cats will probably offer a 2nd rounder or something and we'll take it.

Oh well, can't do anything about that other than (in the future) try harder to not allow top players to run out of contract.

Problem is that when a player nominates one club only, the current club is the big loser because it weakens their negotiating power.

If Jack was to give us an ultimatum, then we play hard ball.

If he wants to do right by the club, which is the most likely scenario, then we make it work. But has to be a win win.

I was asking because I don't now if he is.

Stuv contracted till and of 2020

If he wants to go to Geelong, their first or the pick they get for Tim Kelly, whichever is better, seems about right.

Ideally a future 3rd for their futire 2nd thrown in as well... and hope they slide in 2021

Obviously Jack's health is the number one priority and if leaving is what's best for him, then that's what needs to happen.

But it's inherently crappy that our best player and 4 time Bnf winner will take an enormous pay cut to go play for a top 4 team and we won't get compensated with what he is actually worth to the club. He could play for another 5-6 years (since he has the ability spend his veteran years as a small forward) for them yet we will get given some speculative picks and a fringe player. And if we hold firm and demand what he is actually worth to the club both on and off field, we will be considered the 'bad guys' yet Geelong free reign at another star player on the cheap.

Beames (twice!) and dangerfield did the same thing- only let 1 club into consideration.
Those deals still resulted in clubs getting 'ok' deals.

Yes we won't get an "excellent" deal if jack were to say cats only.... but we can still get a decent deal- something along the lines of what brisbane got for beames last year.

If the cats didn't offer something equivalent to what bris got (late first and future late first/early 2nd), then I'm fine with us doing a gws/mccarthy and letting jack sit out for a year while we pay him to do so.

Sounds like a year off footy wouldn't be the worst thing for him to do if it came to that.
