St kilda wouldn’t ask for a round 1 pick. The powers that be know he isn’t worth that given his age and health.

For the right price geelong would be interested. It’s obviously not a first rounder.
Take your crazy back to your own board

So seeing that we are evidently lacking a bit in the middle, do we turn to this guy at the mid season draft to help booster stocks?

MARLION PICKETT

Position: Half-back/midfielder
Height: 183cm
Weight: 85kg
Club: South Fremantle
Pickett filled the Bulldogs’ midfield void left by first-year Geelong star Tim Kelly, and he is a huge chance to follow in his footsteps into the AFL. After spending the majority of his WAFL career as a running defender, the speedster’s change of role helped take his game to another level in 2018. Gold Coast, St Kilda and West Coast were among those interested in the 26-year-old during the year.

A few discussions on the geelong board about jack Stevens coming home.

Given he will be turning 31 next year and has ongoing mental health problems, you couldn’t realistically pay anymore than a second rounder for him. Anything more and geelong would just walk away I assume.
Given he turned 29 a month or so ago I wouldn't have thought he would be 31 next year.

But perhaps people count differently down in Geelong

I think he's got a busted hand and isn't actually playing. I would have liked him last year though. There actually looks like lots of talent there.

I saw Barlow was still going around for Werribee and has nominated. I would think an extractor who gets first use like him would be pretty handy for a year or two as well.

That's a big number, he doesn't have that many fingers.

My mistake he turns 30 next year.
Nobody is going to pay a first rounder for a 30 year old with mental health issues. Just not realistic

Just a tip mate. You are coming over to our board (just after we got badly beaten) and trying to tell us that our best player (who we really missed today) is basically worthless. Now given the very first thing you said about that player was incorrect, I would perhaps rethink your approach

Collingwood paid two first rounders for Beams, 30 with mental health issues.

I didn’t realize your supporters are that sensitive over here, but given it obviously is no worries. will continue to discuss it elsewhere. I’m sure the trade board will unanimously agree he is a first rounder once it gets brought up

Not sensitive; posters are just being forthright because you seem a bit slow.

Yeah I assume so too.

Would be a bit of hypocrisy on Geelong’s part after Kelly wanting to go home last year, if you expected Saints to just give Stuv away for a late second rounder.

If he is leaving I hope we set his value and don’t move on it.

The issue you are failing to see is a trade should be advantageous to both clubs.

You are probably right, his value to another club is probably a second rounder. However, as our most experienced mid and one of our stronger players, how does a second round pick offer more or equal value, it doesnt. Sometimes, there are no viable win/win scenarios.

Without knowing the full extent of Jacks issues, playing for a club 1 hour down the highway isn’t going to fix them.

From what i was told from a former player when he first went on leave, I’m thinking either he didn’t know the full extent of his issues or he omitted something. Which would be understandable.

As far as trade value. Geelong have always paid fair value/overs for what they want.
A pick in the 15-20 range plus steak knives is fair. 18 + Cockatoo? Maybe Menegola + something else. Kelly compo + ?

1. He’s our best player
2. 3rd in the 2018 Brownlow medal
3. Will thrive in an environment with danger, Selwood, Duncan, Kelly etc
4. 4x BnF winner

Anything less we hold firm and he sits out. Geelong won’t bend us over, something tells me Lethlean and Gubby won’t bend a over.

Obviously his health comes first but this is a business. And the best business operators are ruthless

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If you think he is the difference between winning a flag or going in circles, then you'll pay top dollar for him.

Supply and demand. Economics 101.

not many kids can do it - If Dunstan played seniors in SAFL , he is one that hasn't come on - speed is also a factor I suppose.
Buckley was another

There are quite a few who didn't work out as well, guys like Aish were also playing seniors for example. I think what it does do is show you them on exposed form against older bigger bodies.

One thing I know when drafting - if a kid is playing WAFL or SAFL against men in there draft year the chances are they are good.
Rozee , Naughton
Dead right Premo , that was one of the reasons i rated Rozee my top pick , its easy to beat up on 17-18 year olds , not so easy against men , why do you think there have been so many KPF flops

Compo depends on how much he’s getting at his new club, how much he’s at at the Saints and finally his age.

It’s a crapshoot that the AFL don’t release the “formulae”. Best case scenario for Stuv is Band 2 which would be end of round 1 cause of our other injuries maybe AFL be nice to us like they gave Melbourne pick 3 for Frawley.
He's a good player when he's on. But he comes with health issues and 31 years. If he really wants to leave for genuine reasons I wouldn't be upset with eofr.
