Stephen Hill faces a hugely interrupted pre-season after undergoing surgery on his troublesome right quad.

"Options to rectify the issue were considered by our medical team, with the specialist's advice being that Stephen undergo a procedure to remove the scar tissue on his quad," Dockers football manager Peter Bell said.

and has been a problem all 2019 and turning 30 next year , would be like us trading Armitage knowing he his finished.

So he is better option than Alabakis

I'd probably only want one. We probably need one bull, some outside run and what we have from Seb, Dunny, Gresham, Steele, Billings types. Wines and Crouch is overkill. We have Bytel who we need to see what he can do too and fit a developing Hunter in.

I'd probably prefer Crouch over the others to be honest.

If I had my pick of player types I'd chase Shaun Higgins though.

And.......I just noticed you weren't after two of them.

Just me but prefer Constable ...very very good footballer & age perfect if we could get him.

wasn't wines being talked up as the best inside mid in the game last year? I haven't too seen much of hill/crouch, but surely you'd go wines
Being co - captain they have huge wraps on him , however after the water skiing injury and then breaking his leg it's not been a great year for him.

Friday, 7 June 2019
Ollie Wines will make his return via the SANFL after recovering from a broken leg.

Wines admits he previously erred playing in the AFL straight after a long injury layoff rather than build his match fitness at the lower level.

"If I had my time again, which I have now, I would've preferred a run in the SANFL to prepare me. Whilst I could have a certain impact, it was subdued a little bit without having match fitness," Wines said.

"The AFL is such a step up from straight-line running and whatever else you can simulate in terms of training to the actual game.

"I was pretty solid and had some good games, but it does take a couple of games to get going, so we feel it's better to do it in the SANFL than the AFL."

Wines is a gun, he'd carry our midfield on his back the way Cripps does Carlton. He is only a few months older than Spook too.

As for Crouch, bloke is a gun and is more inside/out than Wines. Better skills than Matt, remember Brad was picked in the mini draft OVER JKelly.

Hill totally outside, I wouldn't say no to him but we either need Stuv's explosiveness in close or we need someone in addition to Hill to make it worthwhile.

I'd put a serious bid on Jack Martin, will be cheaper than Hill and potentially means we'd afford either a Bing or Crouch/Wines as well.

Agree with your last point.

I would water down our first pick if it meant getting both Wines and Martin which imo can be done fairly easily if both the boys want to leave.

I feel the Freo would be asking the world for Hill so would pass that option up.

Does anyone know the status on Dunstan. Hasn't signed yet and everyone is pretty much locked away?

I must say I'm really looking forward to this year's trade period. No clue at all what to expect. One thing im certain of is there will be changes, some foreseen, some not.

When I last spoke to my one(only) contact in the industry(ex 70s champ), he said 'I'm 110% sure Gubby has a few things up his sleeve. He's always in meetings or out networking. The man could charm the blades off a windmill.'

The way i see it, Gubby loves to wheel and deal. Im sure he has 2 or 3 guys he wants to bring in. Unfortunately for us, we don't have much currency right now except our 1st pick and maybe Stuv. Imo it's highly likely that 1 or more of, Goat, Carlisle, Dunstan, Webster, Lonie, Membrey, Sinclair, Newnes, Long will be traded out. Have to give something to get something.

Whatever the case, I won't be overly presumptuous and expect superstar recruits. Those types of signings are best when it's unannounced, hitting you like a thunderbolt from outta nowhere. e.g, like when a one night stand tells you she's pregnant. Ok, maybe not that example.

Still, I'm quietly confident that some quality individuals will be walking through those gates at Linton St. Im positive we wont be disappointed whoever it turns out to be.

What i am sure of, is that this trade period will be our most exciting in recent memory. Strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride.

Tis a good question! Don't know but its all a bit puzzling!

Wines seems to have lost his way at Port. He may need a new environment!
Think Crouch is overrated personally! Esp at the price being touted!
Hill would be perfect, but share the same concerns about what Freo will demand!

If Stuv does go, then we could do a whole lot worse than pick up Constable. He is very talented!
Also agree Jack Martin could be a decent option if we were able to nab relatively cheaply!
Hope we have made enquiries about Papley as it appears he is headed for a melb club

In my view it's outside run and class is what we lack more than anything, so that's where we
Should be focussing our attention!

Luke Dunstan
“I’ve just been trying to focus on playing some good footy all year and I’ll keep trying to do that for that for the last four weeks,” Dunstan told reporters on Tuesday.

“The club and my management are trying to work through something at the moment.

“I’m just loving playing footy at the moment and focusing on that.”

By the sounds the club might be looking at someone else otherwise he would of been offered a contract by now or Dunstan feels he can screw a bit more out of us or another club.

Great news.
How do we now solve the problem of our first choice backline consisting of 4 talls and only 2 smalls?

Delist brown and offer tom barrass a million a year so he can hold down fullback while jake wins AA playing as our mcgovern intercept chb?

Didn't the Tigers have a similar setup when they won the flag? 3 defenders around 195cm plus Vlaustin :

Rance (carlisle)
Astbury (battle)
Grimes (Brown / other FB)
Vlaustin (Wilkie)

Obviously all different players but the structure can work with the right midfield in place

Despite how crap they’ve been for a long time, Carlton are still a massive club. That’s why they, along with Collingwood will always attract players despite where they sit on the ladder.
You say that, and I’m tipping you’re probably old enough to remember when they were a massive club , but don’t forget for the entire life of all current Afl football players Carlton have been nothing but a complete Failure and a total Embarrassment.

Agree 100%, but doesn’t take away from the fact they are still an attractive club to a lot of players.

Of course, but the majority of AFL fans still recognise them as one of the oldest and most prestigious Vic clubs with an enviable history, and any player would be attracted to the idea about playing their part in returning Carlton FC to greatness (vomit) and waking the sleeping giant again. Make no mistake when they recover, they will be huge. May it never happen in my lifetime, very happy with their current incarnation

Can't wipe away the past, much as we'd like to.

Realistically it’s time for him to make some money. He’s almost 25 and has played 100 games, his next deal is where he really starts setting himself up for life after footy. If he can find someone other than the Saints to offer him $500k+ then I think he has to take it.

Can’t believe it, this time last year we were looking for outside midfielders, now for some reason we have an overabundant of them & need more inside midfielders. Sheesh Louise, suppose next year it will revert back to the same as last season.
But..... yep there is always a but, if we can get Constable on the cheap he and the much maligned Luke Dunstan can be the work horses, get Hill to compliment Billings, Sinclair, Gresh etc. as outside thoroughbreds. Then if we fail to win on the last Saturday in September, we’ll have an eachway chance of winning something on the first Tuesday in November. 🤪

If we do manage to land B Hill then our team is going to have so many outside skilled types and not a lot of inside ball winners.
Steele has become a fantastic defensive inside player, we need someone who is going to be the contested ball winning type.

I know i'm probably on my own, but i'd like to see them have a crack using Parker in that role. Try and develop him into a Tim Kelly type. I think it's worth a shot.

I read a Fox Footy article last night in regards to Adelaide and St.Kilda being prepared to off load their 1st picks for multiple 1st Round picks.
Currently GWS and Gold Coast have 2 1st round Picks at their disposal.
If GWS are keen to do a deal (which i think they will) they would most likely deal with Adelaide to get Pick 3 or 4 and then use latter picks to take Academy player Tom Green.
I noticed in the article the Saints have said they would look at 2 picks between 10 and 18.
Currently GC have Picks 1 and17(Brisbanes 1st Pick), but with a Priority Pick they would have 3 picks in the 1st Rd.
Pick 10 is available to the team that is in 9th spot(Non Finalist).
I wonder if the Saints mentioning they would be happy with 2 picks between 10 and 18 is an indication that GC will be allocated a mid 1st round pick and they are the team we will do some Trade Deals with.
I dont think Brisbane will get Pick 18 come seasons end more like P15 or 16 in my opinion, but whatever the pick is the AFL Draft points wont match so if the above eventuates we will also have to offload a player.
Is Jack Martin worth a late 1st?
Could or would we take Martin and keep Pick 10?
