If we get elliot and move bundy and lewy on and then if charlie, elliot and McCarthy get injured, which is a possibility with their history. Who do we have to replace them at a standard commensurate with a top 4 team shooting for the cup. Same with walker if mcstay, adams, andrews or gardiner go down. I think we have to be very careful trading/delisting our depth. Our great run injury wise over the last 2 or 3 years cant last. Should we lose 4 or 5 best 22 players thru injury next year i fear a big drop down the ladder if we dont have quality cover. Richmond this year lost quite a few best 22 players early for extended periods, rance for the season, they had quality depth to come in and keep them in contention. We need that. We have been lucky so far trading in injury affected players, that luck cant last.
I don't think we would move both on. We would keep one.

I have been thinking about the ruck situation and agree it seems odd we haven't made any moves here. I think Big O is good enough to be a number 1 ruck TBH, he will never be a Stef (agile below his knees) but makes up for it by offering genuine marking down the line. Then we keep developing Archie as a back up - he is your more agile ruck, he offers nothing in terms of marking though, which is a but worry.

I think just another recycled ruck is in order at this stage, might even look at the draft.
I think we have good enough ruck stocks to get thru 2020 and this trade period we are focusing on filling holes. I think next year we will chase ruck and tall fwd. I am with ya re drafting a ruck prospect this year. Luke Jackson looks the best this year and a bit of horse trading could see us move up to get him. Id like to see a young ruckman developing with our next gen of mids in the neafl for a cpl of years. I also think Big O can be our no1 ruckman.

So that would suggest his brother being based in North QLD isn't a realistic factor behind him joining the Lions?

Who knows his reasons for considering Brisbane lions without asking him and having him reply we are all surmising.
Don’t know where the other brother is either.

Did Jamie Elliott live in Brisbane when he was younger or a different part of Queensland? This might be a Charlie Cameron like situation where he spent time in Brisbane/QLD at a crucial time in his life (10-13) and feels a connection to the place. Even though Charlie spent 12+ years in Mornington Island, Brisbane feels like home to him.

I don't get Grant Birchell if it's strictly playing. Honestly a Head scratcher. That would mean we are offering 5 players with Chronic injury issues (McCarthy, Adams, CEY, Elliot and Birchell) all list spots in 2 off seasons. The first 4 I get, but I do not understand Grant Birchell for a second.
Totally agree. He hasn't been that hot this year . Not going to win a flag with him in there imo.

Maybe Hodgey wants his mate up there with him.

Charlie went to Highschool in Brisbane, Marist Ashgrove

Every chance we see Birchall holding the half back flank spot until following year when we can trade in one of Smith or Laird.

This makes a lot of sense. FML

If we did lose Robertson, Cutler, Bastinac, Taylor, Lester, Christensen, Keays, Walker, Hodge, Bastinac.

While that's not a lot of A grade talent and some will hopefully stay. That is a lot of depth out the window (especially if they all left!)... not sure it would be ideal to just replace them all with draftees.

Provided he doesn't greatly impact our salary cap, I'd be okay with getting Birchall (I'd be viewing him as depth at worst).

I can see the sense . It's just that we've got guys who would benefit from the experience whom he'll keep out of the side and he's no Hodge imo. We've got a bit of experience down there now with Rich ,Harris who is VC, Dizzy.. I guess what it does indicate is that if we sign up Birchall we're not getting one of the Crows this year.

Very true, gotta back our drafting and development much like Richmond and Hawthorn have in the past. We’ve got some good talent that is ready to step up.

No way we would move all of them on IMO, we'll keep a few as depth, as a few others have stated I would like to keep 3 of Robertson, Taylor, Christensen, Culter and Walker as depth at least.

Sounds like a number of these guys are gone either way, particularly suprised if we can keep Robertson, Cutler or Taylor at this stage. And Birchall is a better player than any of the guys listed if fit (a big if i know).
