The one I'd be looking at particularly if he can't get a regular spot in the Collingwood side this year is Brayden Sier, 21 years old, 190cm, 90kg and I really like the look of him. Maybe he could be an unforeseen benefit for us of the Beams trade, forced out of their midfield.

Although the question is do we need another inside bull?

If Beamsy continues his form from round 1 then maybe Brayden Sier could force his way into the team in replace of Beams for the round 5 blockbuster at the Gabba. (Wouldn’t that hurt) ☹️

I've only seen sier do the blind kicks out of congestion as his first, second and third options. Matho is already one too many IMO. Robinson too.

Sier also doesn't have great endurance just yet, he played pretty limited minutes. I don't expect him to leave collingwood anyway unless something really bad happens.

Lyons doesn't have great disposal either. I like having Matho and Lyons in close and they fill valuable roles but there are only so many of those you can have. I'd be looking for someone with good skills or ideally more leg speed to complement McCluggage.

Parish is more interesting to me as when he plays well he has a fair bit of class but it is weird he hasn't really bedded down a position for Essendon. There's probably a good explanation for it but I haven't paid close enough attention as to why.

I reckon his disposal inside 50 and his hands in close were brilliant on the weekend. I think his skills with the ball are fine, it's just usually done in very contested situations. He's miles ahead of Matho in terms of disposal efficiency on the outside.

Maybe I'm being harsh on him but he does make a few unforced errors - I agree in contested situations he is pretty good but for whatever reason he did miss a couple of easy kicks on the weekend. But point being you wouldn't say disposal are his or Matho's strong points.

Possibly it's a type of confirmation bias - if you think something is going to happen, you'll tend to notice it more when it does. And it will you help you ignore errors from others who are supposedly better kicks.

Simon Black would miss targets probably as much as teammates, but his good kicks were amazing so people overlooked the clangers. Players with vanilla or ungainly kicking actions generally tend to get marked harder than those with a bit of flair and/or style.

Fortunately one of Lyons' mis-kicks resulted in McCarthy's fourth goal after Lyons short kick missed Zorko and / or another player that went over their heads with McCarthy running into an open goal.

It'd also make me feel somewhat better about the 2016 draft crop. At the moment, we've only got Hipwood and Mathieson as regulars in the senior team from that year.

2015.

Besides, a starting key forward and a rotation mid isn't a bad draft crop.

Still managed 7 score assists and over 20 pressure acts to go with his 26 touches and 7 tackles.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he is bad - he's a very good player and a great addition! Just think that the balance in the middle means we could use picking up some outside mids before another inside one. We do still have Ely Smith to hopefully fill that inside role in the future too (assuming he stays and develops). That's why I'd prioritise outside run/great skills over a young inside player.

I thought the knock on Parish is he is a bit vanilla. Does things most things ok but has no real outstanding elite attributes to his game. Not sure he would be a huge gain to our team to be honest. All depends on the price I guess

Not a bad first up effort!

The slick handball from him to Rayner that set up Charlie’s goal of the week nom was delish!

I don't really have a problem with that. There are a few draft watchers who underrate good solid footballers because of the lack of a standout attribute. Sometimes, doing everything to a B grade level makes you a very valuable player. I remember one of the knocks on Rory Sloane pre-draft was that he was a bit vanilla.

If we focus on Parish's last 8 or so games last year, he was in the 20s for possessions most weeks and it was generally a good mix of outside and inside. At the end of last year, you'd say he was tracking along pretty well.

I think possibly the issue with him at Essendon is that he's a smaller, lighter mid and they already have Merrett in that role. Perhaps they don't like the balance with Parish there too. I dunno - I think the move is away from big units in the midfield this year and a bit of agility helps a lot.

Skinner could also come good. Plus we have Bailey as a result of trading Schache
And Bailey is already showing he is an upgrade on Schache. A pity that he doesn't look like Schache is going to be much more than an average player, at this stage anyway

Completly unfair on Schache. Takes key forwards 5/6 seasons to develop. Bailey is a small and it should only take him half that time to get good. In saying that, massive fan of Bailey and hope he can transition in the midfield in the coming seasons.

THIS!

Simon Black's DE%age was often comparatively low, especially by foot.

Another example is P Dangerfield.I don't have stats on hand but from my own observation, a big proportion of his disposals by foot are clangers.....even howlers! Moreover, he's highly suspect when kicking for goal, despite all the hype about what a fabulous forward he is.

Dangerfield is a shocker in front of goal.

You look for sings and with Schache there really aren't many. Will be just a player. Bailey will be a very good player.

When he was with us Fagan was singing his praises saying he was on par with some of the game's greats. Don't know the stats but key forwards that high usually end up pretty good dont they?
We don't really know with Bailey, looks fantastic and l have every hope that he is a fantastic player for us but we thought some of our other small players were going to be good too like Green and the other Red headed guy who went to richmond after we delisted him. Golby had a great few seasons then went off the cliff.
