Lyons vs Greenwood is not a similar comparison. We know we had a hole in terms of contested possessions and stoppage work. We know this was going to get worse with Beams leaving. We also knew that Lyons is elite at contested work and is only behind in GC because they have too many young contested inside kids and David Swallow. Lyons was already top 10 for contested possessions last year and we knew he would be an upgrade on Matho or Robertson.

Linc was an unknown quantity. We knew his ceiling was very high but his floor could be spending half a season a year on the side line so it was a risk worth taking.

Greenwood is a known quantity. Unlike Lyons he is not elite in any capacity. He is very much an off brand Mitch Robbo in the sense that he is a mature body that can win contested possessions, tackle and win aerial contests against small defenders when placed forward. We also know he has similar poor disposals to Robbo. Unlike Robbo he does not have the tank to get to a lot of contests and pick up a lot of possessions. That precludes him from playing the outside wingman role that Robbo is playing. His hack kicks are bad so he relies mainly on handballs. He also doesn't have explosive speed.

The only roles he could take in the midfield would be inside extractor which both Neale and Lyons are adept at. We also have Matho and Keays as depth. He could take Bundys role playing as a small forward despite his size but we have tonnes of depth in that position ranging from Keays to Wooler to Taylor who each have different strengths and could also rotate through the wing.

Having watched Greenwood in many crows matches I'll happily label him as an average footballer. He has plays where he looks like Bont or Cripps with inferior skills. Unfortunately he doesn't have the ability to keep up that level for than a quarter a game. Lester is like a more consistent Greenwood. It would be silly to offer Greenwood over and above what Adelaide offer to entice him to move. He would be playing NEAFL and is unlikely to improve any further. It would be cheaper to keep the depth we have and the likes of Keays or Matho etc have way more upside than Greenwood. I would only be happy with Greenwood if he came as a delisted FA on a very minimum 2 year contract.

Taylor wanted 500 k per season few years back think he ended up with 3 years at 300k pretty good decision in end . Our number 1 priority should be locking suitcase away early because can guarantee you melb clubs are gonna be offering him bucket loads . In my belief he is the most important signing I’d be extending his current contract with a bumper contract next future Brownlow medallist .

Dodongo agrees with this. Dodongo wouldn't hesitate throwing a 5 year 4 mil contract in front of him

Yeah, JLyons and Greenwood is not a particularly good comparison, I don't think. If nothing else, Lyons was geniunely elite in an area of weakness for us. On that basis alone, he made sense. Greenwood might be a good player (although I dispute that he's shown that consistently) but, if we were to get him, I'd see it as handy insurance rather than a great strategic acquisition.

There was extended discussion re Tex on Monday night's On the Couch. Essentially, JB's and the other panelists view, was that Walker should not be considered a true KPF but rather a small forward.

The evidence would seem to suggest that is true. The best thing about this bloke is his kick- probably the best and most reliable since JB TBH. Unfortunately, forget the rest- certainly not a tackler nor a mobile roamer like Hipwood.

Not incidentally, some of the stats put up on OTC shows the Crows forward tackling is just appalling.

I’d be wanting Greenwood in the half forward while going through the midfield. He’s a pretty good medium sized forward and can be damaging when inside 50. However, I’m not sure how good he is defensively, so I might be favouring Bundy in the forward line because of the great pressure he brings.

We're flying in this part of the field. Good spread of age.

Key Forwards

Bit of concern here. I forget how young some of our players are sometime. Someone mentioned going after Jonathan Patton and while I don't necessarily agree with Patton, I agree that we should probably target a more mature key forward as depth for a season or two at the very least.

Midfielders

Huge holes in this area last year which have been adressed. Lachie Neale and Jarrod Lyons have been a godsend. Building good depth but more quality in the 23 - 25 age bracket definitely wouldn't go astray in the coming years.

Think we're looking alright here. Will need to start planning for life post Stefan in the next few years.

Small/Medium Defenders

Really good quality group here. Solid depth. Will need to start making arrangements for life after Hodgey sooner or later and someone with some run and dash in the 22 - 25 age bracket would be great. Zac Williams anyone?

Lacking a little bit of mature depth here, which would definitely explain the interest in Hugh Greenwood, especially with our love of Forwards who can have stints in the midfield.

you should move Ely from forward to midfield as he has always ever only been a mid and Starc from midfield to small defender based on what they have been trying to turn him in to.

Off topic but one thing I really like about Elys game is that he instinctively knows where to run to get marks up forward. Could prove to be a real weapon one day.

Josh Jenkins? Can't think of anyone else who's both gettable and useful.

I'm a little more pessimistic here. I think Oscar is a forward first and better as a part-time ruck only. And Archie still doesn't look convincing. I think we need to draft or trade for a young ruckman, and may need to acquire a stopgap after Stef retires.

Great analysis overall.

I think Marcus Adams could be a handful for opposition KPDs if tried up front, smart player and good speed off the mark, IIRC the coaches and Marcus have expressed a desire for him to be tried up front.

Greenwood could shoot hoops with Fullerton before training

With talk of unrest among Crows players, I wonder if Matt Crouch could be gettable? Zorko, Neale, Crouch and McClugagge gives us 4 AA level mids and would allow Zorko to spend more time up forward.
According to Barrett on AFL.com today.......Saints are most likely to get Crouch.

I predict 80% of this exodus never eventuates.

Guy I work with apparently knows greenwood quite well and he confirmed Brisbane’s interest . He also said he has dodgy Achilles aswell so not sure if we want to be taking a punt on a 28 year old with achillies issues . That being said I’m sure our medical staff will be all over this.

Just in that, what is Ely's tank like? I haven't been able to pay any attention to the NEAFL since moving back to Melbourne.

Side note: last time I lived in Melbourne was 2004. Literally moved to Brisbane the week of the '04 GF. Maybe it's a good move I'm back home ;)

Think he has made really positive strides in the last few weeks but Adams is a bloody terrible kick... so he'll fit in perfectly up forward
I've thought the same about Adams kicking too. It also lacks pace and penetration which is worrying when kicking out of defence.

Can't fault his marking though.

Hey guys I come in peace.

Just wondering on Lewis Taylor's status? Is he close to re-signing or will he head home back to Melbourne?

On a side note congratulations and good luck in September lions! I will be barracking hard for you blokes!
