No doubt but given the form he'd shown stepping in for Goldy I'm also surprised they couldn't rustle up more cash from a club who actually needed a ruck.

They went hard for Polec and Hill wouldnt be cheap, I guess that could have factored in.

Would we want a guy like Shai Bolton or is he just a like for like replacement for Lewy Taylor?? Very skilled player who would add pace and class to our forward line, even though it looks likely he will stay at the Tigers.

With another preseason I can see McCarthy/Rayner playing more midfield/wing time and as we have seen playing a high pressure game in the forward half pays off.

He would be great pickup. A lot more upside than Squizzy.

Yep, the Tigers have got a couple of x factor stars in Bolton and Stack, would love one of them but it would be very surprising if they left the Tigers.

We may never know how much of our injury position is good luck and how much is superior expertise but if it attracts some quality players who cares? There is probaby no better advertisement than Linc Mc Carthy. His body was a basket case at Geelong. Hasn't missed a beat with us.

I keep hearing the Brandon Ellis to Brisbane rumor in fact heard it on SEN this morning pretty sure he hasn't signed yet would be a pretty decent pick up has finals experience I think they are the kind of players we should on the look out for he's a free agent too

He'd definitely be a decent pickup.

But in a perfect world, if we can add a mature midfielder/flanker over the off-season, it'd be someone who's a bit more of a ball winner.

Yeah he's very much outside and not especially quick or that good a kick. Would definitely improve our 22 and come cheap being a free agent.

Ellis as a FA i wouldn't mind. Maybe surplus to needs in a trade, but would add a bit as a freebie. Could play from HF to HB, decent Robbo replacement on the wing. Whilst you wouldn't call him a fast player, i think he has a little bit of toe on him which would be a welcome inclusion into the team. Also adds more to our mid rotations, so you not only get the benefit of him, but increased benefit of having players like Zorko spending more time outside / forward.

How about the Jones Brothers?

SYDNEY SWANS
ZAK JONES
Status:
Out of contract at the end of 2019.
State of play: Jones knocked back interest from several Victorian clubs when he re-signed with the Swans in 2017, but those clubs have continued to circle the line breaking midfielder. The 24-year-old has been strongly linked to St Kilda as well as North Melbourne, Essendon and Melbourne, where his older brother Nathan is co-captain.
Likely scenario: It’s never the greatest sign when a player remains uncontracted this late in the season, however, Jones didn’t sign his last extension until the August of 2017. He could command big bucks if he chooses to come home to Victoria, but with a number of veteran Swans expected to depart the club could have the money to match rival offers.

MELBOURNE
NATHAN JONES
Status:
Unrestricted free agent at the end of 2019.
State of play: Jones’ future has been creating headlines all week, with the Demons and their co-captain at loggerheads over what constitutes a fair deal given not just Jones’ age, but his long history of servitude to the club. As reported by Fox Footy’s Tom Morris, Melbourne’s initial offer to Jones was just $265,000 for a one-year deal. But the 31-year-old is after more.
Likely scenario: Jones will accept the offer Melbourne puts to him — one that should be greater than the sub-par contract initially tabled to the club great.

Zak- Maybe, although I don't think he'd be much of an upgrade on what we already have, purely depth IMO.
Nathan- No, turns 32 before next season, too old and way past his best.

I think they would be a good fit for the Suns.

Zac yes, Nathan no.

I think Zac Jones would be areally good addition to ouregular team as he can play fwd middle or back, rebounds really well and can kick goals and spoil.

He could add something to us by sharing kickins allowing rich to push further up when does so, or to help move oUT of defence as he is good by hand and foot.

Because he has range of strengths and we have so many scoring threats I think he could really add to the dynamic of our halfback line and team overall plus he is still pretty young and has finals experience

Zac can also play a number of positions if needed which fits into Fagan multi-positional play. His kicking can be a bit ‘hit and miss’ but he also will attack a contest. So it’s a yes from me. Nathan is a NO!

I'm still pretty confident that we are going to be able to lure a Lachie Neale/Charlie Cameron level talent this trade period. The rumblings coming from David Noble and Greg Swann of late eg. we have plenty of salary cap space and we have been getting inquiries from player agents leads me to believe something good is in the offing.

Watch this space.

I've often wondered also is the weather a factor. Training and recovery in warmer weather where players are not constantly warm then cold then warm and cold may make a difference. Like formula 1 where they keep the tyres warm in their own fitted suits i just wonder if players being warmer more somehow is a factor to less soft tissue injuries.

A prominent player agent told me that playing in Brisbane adds 10-20% to your career . This has been common knowledge for a long time but it's only now that we're seen as being successful and having an inclusive coaching and rehab set up that throwing this longevity factor into the mix has become a compelling factor.

Look at how Hodge has improved over a couple of years training and playing in the warmth at 35. Stef has continued to improve at his age . For that reason I don't mind targeting the right older players if they have the desire and commitment and have no chronic injury issues

Higgins I think would be the type of playmaker who could complement our midfield / forward line and push us to a certain top 4 in 2020. Question is how certain the club is about this being our window so we go for a premiership top up. Melbourne this year has genuinely made me wonder if premiership windows exist at all these days.

Shaun Higgins? That would be very interesting. North surely wouldn't fight too hard to keep him if he wanted to come to us. Would be a great fit but we'd probably want 2-3 seasons from him at a high level.
