I saw Francis intercept mark a ball and kick it into the back of his own teammate no Thankyou [emoji23]

Parish’s disposal is elite and has got good breakaway pace when I’ve seen it. Been played out of position and generally believe new scenery could jumpstart his career!

Where has he been played and what is his position? MO is that how he has been played by Essendon is exactly how Fagan will play him if he is on our list.

Who are the players with one year to run on their contracts at the end of this season? That’s where to look.

I think there's merit in still looking at and pursuing all angles of making our list better. There is still value in bringing in guys who are on that fringe of your best 22 at the right price. We're starting to get some depth there with guys like cuts, Christensen and Robbo in the two's instead of first year draftees but there's still value in increasing the standard of that next 5-10 players

Plus some players might leave and we would probably like to have options to replace them

I don't think we need to go the trade/FA table this year unless it is for absolute top end talent that is interested in coming to us eg. Stephen Coniglio.

I don’t really agree with this. No one would have Linc or Lyons in that category, but they’ve had a pretty significant impact already.

Looking over the past couple of years I’d be more than happy if the club landed some trades similar to Charlie, Devon Smith etc. Even some of the lower end trades have landed decent quality players to fill list needs, Dahlhaus, Rohan, Linc, Hall.

While it’s nice to land the big A grade prize, can still make significant improvements on the lower end too.

I think we should be looking for a good mature age replacement for Hodge!
Someone with 60-100 games of experience.
If we were to build from within then, Maybe Adams will fill that role if we can get him fit. Or Answerth a possibility.

That’s definitely where we’ve landed from recently. Just wondering if it been a tactic to stop being Kazumped from other clubs.

Players like Cogs and Kelly this year, will have some pretty decent offers coming from nearly every angle. By targeting someone like Neale, who would have been low on other clubs radars, simply because of his contract status, cut a lot of the pressure away from other clubs.

Hopefully we can continue on and have a decent season, might change our luck with Free-Agents and out of contract players

I disagree. I think we have too many Hodges. Rich and Witherden can play the distributor well. Andrews and Gardiner can organise. We probably need more of a lockdown small defender.

I think that Hodge can play lock down quite well, especially in his Hayday!
We have Darcy Who has that lock down ability.
I just think that next year we need an adequate replacement for Hodge as he won’t be running around.

Do you think he's still best 22? He's been solid so far but I'm not sure he's a lock.

Yeah I do at the moment, yes!
Maybe once Adams gets back and shows some solid form in the 2’s and we need to find a place for him then Hodgey may be phased out of the team.
I would love to see Cox given another run though. Would be great if he has improved the defensive side of his game.

I believe Witherden is the natural successor to Hodge in the backline.

I believe we still need one or two more small to medium defenders. Preferably one who offers run and carry from defence and a general defender.

I still have hopes for Cox and Cuttler, and possibly even Allison, cementing a spot in our defensive rotations.

I’m not sure Adams is a like for like replacement for Hodge. Even if we shuffle Gardiner in to the Hodge role.

We can’t really play all of Andrews, Adams and Walker in defence, unless we’re playing a team like West Coast or Adelaide who play three tall forwards.

IMO we have enough of those mid age experienced players on our list... excluding Hodge and Martin all these players have at least 4-5 years left in our side, right in the middle of our flag window eg. Rich, Christensen, Lyons, Neale, Adams, McCarthy, Cameron, McInerney, I also think although 30 years of age Zorko seems like the type that could play well into his 30s and then below them the young leaders in Andrews, Gardiner, McStay, Berry, McCluggage, Witherden, Mathieson will all be into their 4th season at the least in 2020.

I'd be going to the draft this year unless we can get an elite player in.

I'd be looking at combining our Pies pick + our G C pick for a top 10 pick. Would love to add another elite midfielder

Really not sure if there's a team who would be willing to do that. Not for a pick in the top 10.

Only possibility would be GWS, because they might have another academy kid rated in the 10 to 15 range, and depending on where their pick falls, and where their kid is projected to go, might consider trading out their pick to maximise its value.

From what I have read on this years draft, outside the top, top kids, it's a deep draft on the next tier of talented kids. The kid available at the Pies pick, might not be to far behind the kid drafted at 11. Unless we're targeting a specific kid that fits a need, might not be worth moving up.

That said, I'd happily trade both picks if we could get Hayden Young or Lachlan Ash.

Hodge has said his goal by the end of the year is to get dropped, so the other guys are passing him and getting better. I'd love to see Hodge play in the 2's for a couple of weeks and teach the kids down there on field while he still plays.

Personally I see a mix of Rich and Gardiner being the Hodge replacement, Rich with his kicking, and Gardiner with his going back and marking/being the last man back there. If Andrews stays in defence, he will certainly be more of a General back there. Already is in some respects.

If we are in finals contention, l can't see Hodge getting dropped unless someone is really really killing it in the 2's. His experience if we are playing elimination finals will be invaluable.

I agree. Could make a huge difference IF we play finals. He did make those comments about being dropped before the season started though so didn't know how we would go when he said that. Maybe if we look likely he could play a few games in the 2's in the middle of the year instead. I like the idea of him helping those who aren't in the best 22 especially if it is an age thing... academy kids in particular who we might draft this year or next.

Answerth ticks both those boxes. Will be a player.
Have to say Lions_Insider, I'm liking the more interactive version you have going on right now.

As a draft watcher, I know Answerth was highly regarded going in to his draft year in '17, before injuring his back.

Hodge won't and shouldn't be ever dropped. You don't drop a legend who is still holding up his end of the deal. If he falls off a cliff at some point this season, sure but that is unlikely. And as mentioned, his experience is invaluable for this side going into the Grand Fin...I mean, FINALS, this year.

Dropped no but rested more than likely
