Given they mentioned Martin above, and he's also in a relationship with a local, does that mean Martin by contrast isn't open to staying in Queensland? I want Martin much more, he's a better player. Ah Chee still has potential but I wonder if he'll be any better than Cox.

Mmmm! Can't say I have noticed too much about him over the years, from the little I can recall he is a light on his feet smooth mover with reasonable disposal, what's his contested game like? Season ending ankle surgery half way through this year.

From a bit of research he showed some promise off half back last year. Obviously talented and wouldn't cost too much. Might be a good value pick with our second rounder.

Completely agree. Really like him as a player and think he'd thrive in our system. Similar player to Cox but is a great contested mark for his size. Can Play half back or half forward. Dangerous on the outside but not completely opposed to doing grunt work. Won't be a high disposal player but his type doesn't need 25+ to have a good impact on a game.

I’m probably in the minority but I’d prefer to get players from out of state clubs. I know I know, they’ve grazed off us but I’d still rather see us play them in a gf than have either of us sitting in the bottom of the table feeding off each other.

Are we trading back out of contract cusp players who want to remain in Queensland?

If players elect to go, then they go. It's called self-recruitment [eg, Lachie Neale]. The Lions should know- we've been there for a decade or so. Hanley, Rischitelli went South, for different reasons I know.

There's no such thing as "bad blood" in footy. It's look after yourself, and devil take the hindmost. Look at Richmond [speaking of which, I sincerely hope someone is looking closely as to how they can afford to pay an ex-GC spearhead over a reputed $1m per year within the salary cap, while giving their resident throat high fend-off merchant another $1m at the same time]. No sympathy there for the GC. Plus the GC's only other decent footballer, May, elected to self-recruit.

The GC have had untold $$m poured into them- priority this, priority that. Fix-up admin experts funded by the AFL. Way better facilities and infrastructure than us. And where has it got them? Precisely no-bloody-where.

Forgive me- should always have been a Tassie team- but the Big D's ego got in the way.

And for all those who agonise about the financial underpinnings of a Tassie team- excuse me??? How's that working at the GC? And what was the crowd at their last home game? About 7k?? Average this year around 12k. Looking good. Not.

If you were a young GC gun, wouldn't you be looking at your options?

I would love to see all 4 Northern clubs getting a trade alliance going...So over being a feeding ground for Victorian Clubs that are able to compensate through commercial third-party interests. The likes of VFL's McGuire and his criticisms of retention allowance, saying the AFL can't distort the salary cap shit me...

I don’t know much about Ah Chee, but If he can improve our list, it shouldn’t matter where he comes from. It would be a silly idea to only target players from other states.

Contrary to popular belief, the existence of the Gold Coast actually allow the AFL to derive more revenue than what it costs to support them each year.

From a stategic perspective, it always made more sense to establish another Queensland team to capitalise on that market and promote further growth of the game (particularly at grassroots level).

It also makes more economic sense to put a team on the Gold Coast as opposed to Tassie. Don't get me wrong, the AFL have made a lot of decisions which I don't agree with, however it was always more commerical to preference a Gold Coast team rather than one in Tasmania.

No way I’d be giving up pick 19 for a 31 key tall forward who plays like a small.
And has only played probably 2 good years of footy in his career and now on a steep decline.

I think some are locked into the notion that a forward's only role is to kick goals. The modern game is more complex. McStay is playing his role well and kicking a few goals is seen as a bonus
