Have to say Lions_Insider, I'm liking the more interactive version you have going on right now.

As a draft watcher, I know Answerth was highly regarded going in to his draft year in '17, before injuring his back.
Answerth looked VERY good v Redland in the practice match a couple of weeks ago. I know I've only see him play once, but if Hodgey ever gets rested at any point it would not surprise me to see him get a debut. He looked strong defensively, but his rebounding and offensive work was what stood out to me.

Geelong looking very good indeed.

I wonder what players will we recruit from our 2nd academy at the end of this season?

The one I'd love would be Jordan Clark, terrific young player. Wouldn't mind Brandan Parfitt as well.:D

Where has he been played and what is his position? MO is that how he has been played by Essendon is exactly how Fagan will play him if he is on our list.
Francis is below average in terms of speed and has an appetite for coming off nearly every game with a niggling injury .... paryicularly in 4th quarters. Hes not for me.

Had a thought.. why don’t we target another ruckman to be groomed into the next generation Stef while we stick ‘The Big O’ in the forward line full time? He marks everything that comes his way and is accurate.

Yes, someone like Archie Smith would be ideal.

Said it before and I’ll say it again Zac Jones please
Would be a great get. Jacob Hopper would be the main target for me though. Gun contested midfielder. 29 possessions and 2 goals yesterday. OOC and the Giants may struggle to offer him what other clubs can with Coniglio and Kelly as their main priorities.

Our number 1 target these off season should be Jack Martin. He's exactly what we need. He can play half back, wing and forward. Our team lacks speed and skills on the outside. I reckon we have enough inside mids with Starcevich, Smith, Robertson and Lester in our reverses who can play that role. Out of contract

Number 2 target should be Zac Jones.

IMO we have enough of those mid age experienced players on our list... excluding Hodge and Martin all these players have at least 4-5 years left in our side, right in the middle of our flag window eg. Rich, Christensen, Lyons, Neale, Adams, McCarthy, Cameron, McInerney, I also think although 30 years of age Zorko seems like the type that could play well into his 30s and then below them the young leaders in Andrews, Gardiner, McStay, Berry, McCluggage, Witherden, Mathieson will all be into their 4th season at the least in 2020.

I'd be going to the draft this year unless we can get an elite player in.

Looking at our age profile, it’s looks in really good order. Having younger players like Andrews, Hipwood, McCluggage, Berry, Witherden and Rayner establishing themselves as regular contributors is absolutely great drafting. That’s a 1/4 of the starting team there.

We still have Mathieson, Keays, Cox, Bailey and Starc as young players on the fringe, who hopefully develop and get included to the list above. All those with last year draft Haul, Woller, Ballenden and Payne yet to debut. With that amount of decent young talent, we’re in a position where we don’t necessarily need to keep stockpiling. Trading out of a few drafts wouldnt effects us too greatly long term.

The list you’ve put together is fair, however it’s still only 16 players deep. Even when you add the likes of Nick Robbo, Cutler and Taylor, IMO we still have room/need to add established talent while still having that young talent developing.

When you say elite talent, everyone would love to sign a Coniglio type, another Neale, Shiel etc. However they don’t always come along. Someone of Polec status, not truely elite but a walk up starter in an area of need for us, I’d be more than happy with that as an outcome. A small quick defender, Marley Williams was a great bargain for the Kangas.

Don’t need to headline the trade period for it to be a success.

Draft for talent, trade for need. I can’t see Noble not trying to utilise both. We have been lucky with Cameron and Neale but don’t forget players like McCarthy, Martin or even those like Robinson and Lyon that we used with later picks or fell in our lap. I think that Noble has shown that he can build a list. If we are lucky to add more talent via trade or draft then great. Building a list is continuous and even though we have started well I definitely wouldn’t be classifying us as a top team by any means.

Interesting looking back in hindsight with us after an inside ball winner. Lyons, Wallis, Miles, Ellis-Yolmen, etc.
Doggies fans are ropeable about players being played out of position. If Wallis was considered as an inside mid, the fact that he is largely playing as a forward, I think, may explain his fall from favour.

Hard to play them in position though when almost all their players are midfielders

Does anyone know the contract status of SPS at Carlton. I haven't been blown away by him but with a good game last weekend maybe he is going to be a player.
He's going nowhere, not OOC till the end of 2021. IMO he is going to be a very good player, Carlton have got a really good group of young players.

Didn't he also say pre-draft he wanted to play at a big Victorian club?
