Only A graders probably stretches the salary cap a bit so the next level down has obviously been a target and has worked a treat so far..but I think any future newcomers deserve discussion because they won't necessarily be a hit

Dodongo thinks we could probably only fit one more A Grader on the list with the demand our younger players will warrant over the next 24 months. So Dodongo won't be surprised if we land a few next level down if we can't nail one in.

I would be trading up to pick 2 to grab Anderson in the draft, next young gun of the comp!

Only watched Greenwood play against us but in those games he looked dangerous up forward and very creative inside the contest.

Just a question for some of the anti-Greenwood posters (briztoon, lionraven & Dylan12 on this page come to mind) would you guys have been for/against Jarryd Lyons at this stage last year?

I feel like he had similar - maybe less - runs on the board when we got him. It was a free hit, but Greenwood wouldn't be much more expensive I wouldn't think. I'm genuinely curious because I feel like the club's recruiting strategy has been pretty spot on over the past two years. Specifically with players that might've seemed questionable initially but have well and truly proven their worth as great recruits as the year has gone on.

It's probably changed my thinking about trade targets a little. Partially because I have a higher degree of trust in the talent assessment of our recruiting department than I ever have, and also because I've seen what sort of approach actually builds a good side (and it isn't necessarily an 'only A Graders' policy). Under the A graders only policy, we wouldn't have brought in Mitch, Linc, Lyons, Bundy, Stef, Walker or Adams - all players who are as of the weekend best 22 in a top four team.

Nailed it Patty.

Greenwood would be a good pickup. When you think about our recruiting policies in recent times he fills a lot of the requirements

We were desperate for a Jarryd Lyons type last year. Plus we upgraded Neale to Beams and got Linc whose contested footy is a strength. Now we are one of the better contested footy sides.

Not saying this rules out Greenwood but it’s not exactly a fair comparison.

I'd prefer to let Wooller come through. I think he would play the same role up forward but offer more around the ground.

Yes, I really like him, great pace and takes the game on and I think we have the development staff that could improve his weakness ie. disposal + we all know Fages and co are the best at using a players weapons and Jayden certainly has a weapon.

He would be playing NEAFL for us.

I would prefer Berry to come on, interrupted pre-season again and if he gets a clean run at it think that he will break out like Hugh.

In regards to Greenwood is he that much better than Mitch Wallace who, when we didn’t pick up Noble came and said we are only targeting A grade players anyway?

This whole 'only targeting A graders' schtick is not real. Quality role players who are 16-30th on our list are valuable, especially when pushing for finals.

Oliver for Pick 13 (Collingwood), Future 1st (Roughly pick 16) & Cutler/Taylor
Tomlinson Free Agency
Cutler/Taylor out for a late 2nd (Roughly pick 35)
Then go into the draft with 19, 33 & Roughly 35.
Think they are pretty fair trades, Taylor would be on reasonable coin as he signed it after his good 2 years as a rookie. So would have enough space for Tomlinson & Oliver.
Would be stoked with all the above.

That would require more trade currency than we have or are likely to have.

Taylor wanted 500 k per season few years back think he ended up with 3 years at 300k pretty good decision in end . Our number 1 priority should be locking suitcase away early because can guarantee you melb clubs are gonna be offering him bucket loads . In my belief he is the most important signing I’d be extending his current contract with a bumper contract next future Brownlow medallist .

I think Melbourne would be more likely to offload Petracca or Brayshaw than Oliver. Both the former have been less than stellar this year, some would say Petracca has never reached any great heights. Oliver is someone they need given Jones isn't getting any younger and Viney is injury prone.

On Lyons, I would have been a 'for' because I always thought he was a good player and could add something, which was fairly obvious as our midfield struggled.

On Greenwood though, I'm not sure what he offers that our list doesn't already have. Would he honestly be getting a game at the minute if he was at the Lions and if so, who would he be replacing? I know I'm pro-Cutler, unlike many, but he is better than Greenwood by a mile.

FWIW, it was reported on SEN yesterday that Taylor wants to stay at the Lions.

That's good to hear, it hopefully means he's backing himself to get back into the first 22. He's certainly good enough. Wouldn't it be great if he could develop his contested game even more. He would become a very very good player.

Happy to keep Squizzy.. Would like Walker to stay.
Weird Lester not resigned. You think we have him there to do Hodges role. Been solid this year when in.

Sorry Dylan I think Cutler is on the outer so a new club might be what he needs.
Demons a good fit for him they need outside players who can kick.

I feel for Basti way too good for NEAFL.. Maybe a trip down the road to the Suns be good for him

I know Petracca hasn't hit the level most expected him to, but I can't help but imagine Petracca and Rayner both in form and firing playing in the same team. 😍
