Would there be any interest in Ben Brown?

Brown would cost a lot and not sure we have a need there. When Hipwood and McStay hit their prime in the coming years, there's more upside.

Higgins on the other hand would be like a top up trade that Hawks have done before (Brian Lake comes to mind) shoring up the midfield area for us where currently we are good but have room to improve.

Interesting one if they where going a rebuild then you think they want to get some young talent in.
Hence Brown have currency to get picks.
Although they won again last night and chance for the eight.. They might be looking again to get someone in to push.
When your 6-13th on the ladder you either need to drop down or try what you can to push up.

Shaun Higgins is an interesting suggestion, he is a class player but at 32 years of age before next season might be just a tad too old for a high level 2-3 year stint.

Having a look at player ages on Zero Hanger the ones that stand out for me on the list of players that will be 30+ before the start of next season are Rory Sloane and Jack Steven. Steven is an UFA at the end of next year so the Saints may be willing to get something for him before then, Sloane is on a long term contract(2023) although with the rumblings going on around the Crows they may go full rebuild mode next season.

Brown is only 26. They can build around him with some decent kids and push for finals in 2-3 years.

I've often wondered also is the weather a factor. Training and recovery in warmer weather where players are not constantly warm then cold then warm and cold may make a difference. Like formula 1 where they keep the tyres warm in their own fitted suits i just wonder if players being warmer more somehow is a factor to less soft tissue injuries.
Hmm probably not really the thread for this discussion but I’m not sure how relevant or not the weather is in regards to the injury prevention.

I mean when Burton and Co were running the high performance show, the injury list was pretty average at that time.

Look at GC - since they came into the competition their injury list has usually been among the worst in the comp.

I think we just need to be hopeful that the guys we have there now keep doing what they’re doing, and don’t get poached to a bigger team.

If we can do that then hopefully that’ll help us attract more of those players (like Linc) who look at our injury list now (or lack of) and think they may want to be part of that.

I'm not against Higgins for a 2 year deal if we do our thorough due diligence . You wouldn't think it'd cost us much and he's still a very good player.

Depends whether we think we're right in business for a flag or whether we would prefer to keep rebuilding for a decade but still looking for a flag.

I'm not sure it's just the injury factor Squizz , it's more to do with your career longevity injuries or not a la Alistair Lynch.

If you are within striking distance of a premiership I think you go for it and be aggressive in improving the list(Within reason of course and without jeopardising the ability to re-sign younger players over the next few years). I'd definitely be targeting guys like Sloane and Higgins to propel our midfield even further. To say they are too old and out of our age range is silly when we are going to be aiming for a flag next year. It doesn't matter if they are 32 if they are A grade and can help us win now, and we don't have to give up a ridiculous amount at the trade table get them in. Doubtful Sloane leaves the Crows. Higgins would be a great get on a two year deal. Would add a lot of class to our midfield and can rest up forward and be dangerous.

I agree with jason pm that we likely have another highly quality player coming to us. We have some cap room, we have to be one of the most attractive destinations in the league with Fagan at the helm, our medical team and the fact that we are a young up and coming top 4 side. I could easily see 1-2 quality players wanting to join the club and help us push for flags over the next 5 years. We're in a very good position as a club now. Just need to continue to add quality to the list like the Hawks did over their 3peat continually adding more guys who could play a role and the Tigers adding Lynch, Eagles chasing Kelly ect. The best sides never get complacent and are always aggressive in improving their lists year to year.

I wonder if Jack Steven is on the cards. Was linked to us last year and with his mental health issues may seek a fresh start out of the football bubble of Melbourne? If Fagan can get the best out of him for 2-3 years he'd make us that much more dangerous.

Any interest in Jack Martin?

Was also thinking Ainsworth would be a good pick up but seems the loyal type

Martin seems bound Vic way? Doubt GC would be willing to offload a contracted young gun then put their hand out for a priority pick? Besides we overlooked him in the draft, albeit it high up; might sit ill with him.

Jack Martin was picked up in the GWS mini draft where Suns got him by handing over pick 2 (and other pick swaps). We were never a chance to get him.

Just watching the suns v pies game and taking note of elliots game. He seems to be running freely, kicked a cpl of goals by half time, shown good chase and positional wareness near goal. Having a good game. If he could stay fit for the rest of the season, get a good pre-season into him, i think he could be handy for a cpl of years up here. A sm fwd/midfield rotation, good depth for a linc or charlie injury. Character wise, if theres a problem (i dont think there is), brisbane might be a good place to be. Would have to prove himself here but offers some mature depth, a step up from basti, (sorry basti i have been a fan), wouldnt cost too much, would keep the pressure on players to perform. Id take him for a cpl. If our medical team gave him the all clear of course.

I like the idea and with Linc looking like he could spend more time in the midfield with another pre season under his belt Jamie could slot in up forward nicely.

Have been told first hand that Jamie Elliot is a complete flog, massive no for mine.

I mean, just look at his tats/head
People (including me) said the exact same thing about Mitch Robinson and Dustin Martin, but look at them now. People change over time with a new start or club. You can't judge a book by it's cover.

We need more midfielders. Feels like we consistently get smashed in the clearances
We've got two of the top 22 clearance winning players. Only West Coast has three.

To be honest we'd be better off playing Berry on the ball than recruiting anyone short of a Crouch brother (the only ones that look remotely gettable).

Good effort but feels like we get smashed in clearances most weeks. Got plenty of faith in what we've got but we know we can get better.

We get beaten pretty consistently in uncontested possessions and usually by some margin. But for our opponent's inaccuracy both the Hawthorn and Dogs resuts would have been a lot closer. Our efficiency has been the difference. We need to possess the ball more than we currently do and for that we need some outside runners with good skills. They grow on trees don't they?
