Schache did the same thing, can never rule out a player moving. If it offers him more senior footy happy to let him go.
Oscar may need to be upgraded so they may be looking at putting Archie back to the Rookie list. Especially if Ceglar is coming onboard.
Maybe Archie is not very happy about that and would like some more Senior opportunities. Sydney definitely need some Ruck depth.

Oscar definitely needs to be upgraded at the end of the year, this is his third year I believe? Pretty sure that’s the maximum without special permission which with how many games he has played there is no chance

if any NEAFL player contracted or not looking at better opportunity elsewhere and the club happy you can understand.
If we going after Ceglar then Archie gets pushed back again.
I also think Alison might look again. seems to slipped down the pecking order.

Contracts are not what they used to be.. You just guarantee you get income for X years.
You can be swap clubs for more or less $ or years.

I'm sceptical of the Archie rumour.

They'll get Naismith and Sinclair back next year, and to a lesser extent they've got Darcy Cameron and McLean waiting in the wings.

I think their "lack of ruck depth" was exposed in 2019 due to both their first preference rucks going down at the same time. They'd be pretty stiff for that to happen again.

I would trade Archie and accept whatever we can get. Hopefully sydney might give us a 3rd round pick. As Regards to Ceglar I say absolutely no. I would prefer to get someone from the state base leagues with close to the same age as the big O , a couple of years younger would be nice than the big O . Massive fan of the big O , fan favourite for me. Boy the lions got a good one with Big O . Time for the next gen of rucks not an oldie such as Ceglar. Keep steph a the ruck coach when he retires.

I am surprised its taken this long for Jack Martin to be linked with us. I know for a fact Ah Chee and his QLD partner are very very close with Jack Martin and his partner. Apparently the 4 of them do everything together. Would love to see Jack Martin come.
I would too, geez the Suns would be filthy at us though, for taking two of their talented players. I guess they grabbed Rischitelli and Brennan from us in one go also however. And Martin was always going to leave.

Doesn't really compare though, does it? Brennan was stagnating here and stagnated there, and we pushed Rischa out the door. It would suck in their position.

The humane thing to do would be to get both of them to a club with a heartbeat.

The suns are where footballers go to die. We're ethically obligated to get as many suns onto our list as we can.

Very nice to hear mate and would make sense as we have followed this path before. E.g. Bez/Clugs and Neale/McCarthy. Seems like a winning strategy so far.

A lot of players being linked to us in some way. Price aside, which 2 would you prefer out of Laird, Daniher, Martin or Ah Chee?

Daniher would make our forward line markedly better, Laird would make our back line markedly better. Done (IMO).

Joe shopping himself around for a better contract with the Bombers - Danihers and Essendon go together like peas and carrots.
He has hardly been on the park in the last 2 yrs.
It’s hard to imagine him being in any position of power? Especially when he is contracted.

True, but it's a pretty standard negotiating tactic. He is in a position of power because he is a dominant key forward, injured or not, hard to come by.

Reports a couple of years ago, 1 or 2 clubs were offering around a mil/season but he settled for around $800-850k to stay at Essendon.
Not sure with his history, anyone would be offering up too much more than the 800k now. Or am I wrong? Thoughts?

On the earlier question I’d go

1. Daniher
2. Martin
3. Ah Chee
4. Laird

Daniher is a big upgrade on McStay and could easily win a couple of Colemans

Martin could play a number of outside roles and fill a need. Similarly Ah Chee who is less proven

I’ve never been that big on us needing another back flank and Laird is an accumulator but isn’t damaging. Rich is better IMO and Witherden can play a similar role. Our backline needed a lock down small which it found in Answerth (also Adams strong form can free up Dizzy to play on marking smalls) or a small back with genuine line breaking speed like Conor McKenna or Brodie Smith.

So does his dad and Sydney. Qualified as a father son for both clubs and if he does want to get out of the limelight in Melbourne, Sydney would hold great appeal to him too.

I disagree on your assessment of Laird. He can be extremely damaging as a half back. During 2017 he had 60 inside 50's that would rank him just behind Rich this season for backmen. I would suggest his type of role he has as half back flanker will dictate his creativity. I think he would be very good in our backline. Would want him most of the four

Jeeze, we're debating which A Grade players linked to us we'd want the most. Being a top team is weird to adjust to.
I prefer it to the alternative.
