Could we put a player in the trade for laird/smith, as well as our first pick. Cutler or N Robbo eg, if they wanted to leave for greener pastures. Each are worth a 2nd rounder, if they were to both leave but not in the trade for laird, these picks could be bundled for maybe another first rounder. Taylor is probably the only other player with a 2nd rnd value in trade.

Not sure we'll get a second for either of them, probably 3rds or a 2nd combined. I don't see Adelaide wanting any of our fringe players anyway, besides maybe Hinge since he's an SA boy with potential.

I can see both our high picks being used in the possible trade for Laird - say
- 17 & 19 for Laird & 26 OR 17, 19 & Taylor for Laird & 21.
The other option is to try to trade up - combine 17 & 19 for say picks 10 & 28 (Haw), trade 10, 32 & Taylor for Laird &26.

Laird is contracted though, and Adelaide are known for driving a hard bargain. I imagine they'd want 17 and 19 straight up without sending a pick back, but we'll see.

Can't imagine Hawthorn are keen to trade back either when their F/S pick might go in the teens.

Rubbish; it was discussed ad nauseum today on radio, the Sunday footy shows and an even better analysis on the Final Crack with Dixon and King. All highlighted how bad Witherden was in that contest, so how can you honestly say it’s nonsense? The only ones who don’t believe it are precious Lions fans because every other person who follows AFL knows what a pathetic effort it was.

Very simply, the Lions can't control the umpiring. But they can control what Witherden works on in training in order to improve, and deciding if we need another player to cover his deficiencies. I really don't think we have enough speed off the half back flank if we play two of Answerth, Rich and Witherden there. Laird can improve us in that aspect.

I don't know if we'll be left with a first rounder after trade period but not sure we really need one. Got a bevy of young talent already and if there was a year to skip investing in the draft and trade for needs and immediate improvement this might be the one from the sounds of things.

Sam Murray delisted by the pies: averaged 20 disposals last season, has genuine pace, skills are a tad hit and miss but as a player has huge upside IMO.

Assuming his head is screwed on properly (questionable) fits the bill of the type of player we need
