I think Mitch Robinson's article about wingers gives us a small insight as to why Cutler might not be at the lions next year
Most important thing is that for a player to play wing in our setup there's a skillset there that doesn't necessarily suit Tom. Looks like it's a highly complex position where you have to curb your attacking instincts to an extent.
We've had heaps of success by focusing on player's strengths in the context of what those strengths bring to specific roles the coaches want our players to take on.
It's very possible that Cutler is Both a good player and also not suitable to play the gamestyle Fagan is pursuing.
Much like we get more out of Lyons when the suns delisted him, I can see another club getting much more out of Cutler if we do trade him. I hope people don't spend next year melting down when Cutler has a good season.
The club sees he's talented and obviously wants to wait it out to see if we can find a way for him to contribute to the team, but other teams might be able to provide an environment where Cutler can play the footy he wants to.
It's probably a problem we haven't had in a decade, as the goal has been for a very long time to just keep good players. Might be now that the goal is to keep good players who also project to contribute to the gamestyle we want to play.
