I dunno, goal accuracy seems to have been pretty stable for a very long time:

1977______3943____3296_______7239_________54.5%

1978______4157____3305_______7462_________55.7%

1979______4182____3671_______7853_________53.3%

1988______4470____4295_______8765_________51.0%

1998______5012____4491_______9503_________52.7%

2008______5238____4609_______9847_________53.2%

2018______4969____4581_______9550_________52.0%

OK, not arguing with your stats. But I watched Lockett, Dunstall and Templeton!

nothing

Snap is the other one tho

I think a snap is just across the body but doesn’t necessarily have that banana curve. E.g. bananas are kicked from beside the point post, snaps are kicked from in front of goal by dills who should be going the drop punt in a set shot situation.

Snap = inside of boot

Banana = checkisde = outside of boot.
I always saw a snap a just any kick across the body, not necessarily one that is kicked to bend in the air.

Interesting how these terms differ with usage depending on what town you grew up in

as far as I can ascertain, bananas & checksides refer to the same type of kick, but checkside is a South Australian term, whilst West Aussies, Vics, Taswegians & the rest have used the term, banana.

Yep a snap can also go over your head. Whenever I'd heard "snap" used in reference to a kick, it was in reference to a shot on goal, generally one that was fired off quick with little time to steady and straighten up.

I think it's gotten a little more bleed through these days, as snap postures and techniques are being used more regularly with set shots.
