Congratulations Jenna Colwell - 50 Games
It's fair to say we face a different team to the one that beat us by a narrow margin back in R9. Ellie Blackburn and Brook Lochland are two notable new faces from that R9 Western Bulldogs side and they are stacked with AFLW talent this week. Lochland has only stepped out for the Dogs in four games but was BOG for two of them and in their best for the other two so she could be a handful.
For the Tigers Monique Conti, Alice Edmonds, Courtney Wakefield and Alana Woodward didn't play in that R9 clash so we are fielding a stronger side even allowing for Katie Brennan being absent. Lisa Davie returns to strengthen our backline as Akec Makur-Chuot has a rest. Maddy Edwards returns and Maddy Baldwin and Rachel Poke make their yellow and black debuts this week
I think our back six are strong enough to keep the Bulldog forwards in check so once again it will be a battle in the midfield that will determine the outcome. It will be interesting to see if a Conti v Blackburn clash happens and if it does it will just about be the match up of the year. The possible Frederick v Spark match up is also one well worth watching. These sides could meet again in an Elimination Final in a few weeks so it wouldn't surprise if both teams keep some moves up their sleeves for more important times.
I'm tipping the Tigers to take advantage of playing at home and coming away with the win in a tight hard contest.
More on our first gamers.....
Maddy Baldwin - the 173cm Bendigo Pioneers midfielder is returning to the field after a knee injury kept her out of the U18 NAB Womens season.
Bendigo Pioneers Female Talent Coordinator Emma Tomlins:: “Maddy hurt her knee late last season and we haven’t seen a lot of her yet this pre-season" "She’s one of those players that just gets the job done and stands out when you don’t think she’s going to.”
Rachel Poke - The Old Xaverian was a former basketballer with Nunawading Spectres and went on to secure a scholarship with Murray State College in Oklahoma USA but always had yellow and black running through her blood.
