MY THOUGHTS:
Interestingly we've decided to rest players in a live VFLW match instead of last weeks practice match (for no points) against the giants, which was probably one of the strongest sides we've fielded all year.

Did we rest them, or were we forced?

It was mentioned during last week’s game that VFLW team selection is normally limited to 12 AFLW players, and that last week’s invitational had no such limitation so we had 15.

(I guess that means our women are generally injury-free so it creates a good selection problem to have )

Likely a combination of both - we only named 5 AFLW players this week, which is as low as I can remember. The 'pies website stated we were resting some to prepare for finals. Perhaps a way of trying to avoid going out in straight sets again?

As to resting them this week when points were on the line with AFLW coach Stephen Symonds taking the reigns last week against GWS it appears we treated it as a AFLW pre-season match instead of a practice match like other sides did. With a new coach it's not a bad idea, but we're still 6 months off round 1.


Given the team named I'm not surprised we lost today ending a VFLW winning streak of 11 matches.

Another thought - maybe by putting responsibility on the shoulders of weaker players ...

... the club is trying to build up resilience in the team ...

... maybe that’s been identified as a reason behind last year’s poor finals showing?
