Here we are at the last game of the VFLW home and away season and the Tigers face another formidable opponent in top placed Southern Saints. We have made six changes to last weeks team which suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Western Bulldogs. The inclusion of Katie Brennan makes a massive difference to our chances.

In simple terms win and we keep our place in the top four. Lose badly and if other games fall against us, we could find ourselves missing finals by percentage.
For that to happen Hawthorn (5) have to beat Collingwood (2), Melb Uni (6) beat NT Thunder (10) and Geelong (7) have a big win against Carlton (12) All of these scenarios are entirely possible so we just have to get the job done tomorrow. If either Hawks, Melb Uni or Geelong lose we are safe. If it comes down to that Geelong v Carlton game, percentage could see Geelong take our spot if we have a bad loss and they have a strong win. 34 point loss by us and 34 point win for Geelong would do it.

We gain some handy players this week. Into the team comes a fair bit of experience and class in Laura Bailey, Katie Brennan and Akec Makur Chuot. That's 120 games of AFLW/VFLW between them. Youngsters Grace Egan and Sophie Damon return to the team. We also have another debutante in tall mid/forward Emma Horne this week as our 23rd player. Emma was consistently in the best players for Eastern Ranges during their season this year and was rewarded with a place in the Vic Metro side as they went on to claim the NAB AFLW U18 title.

The Tigers have only had the benefit of a Brennan/Conti midfield combination in three games this year averaging almost 45 possessions between them each game and, not surprisingly, we won them all. Our forward line though, its fair to say, has not quite delivered as a unit considering the personnel there but they should get plenty of delivery this week. After a slow start to her year, Sabrina Frederick is really starting to hit form with two BOG's in the last few games. Lets hope it all clicks for the forward team and if it does we could see another big score kicked.

For the Saints they have had an excellent season. They just get the job done but teams have been in the contest against them in most games. They have a great balance of AFLW and local talent in their side. Their only losses were upsets against NT Thunder and Geelong.

Kate McCarthy is always dangerous and fellow forward Kate Shierlaw (who makes a return to AFLW next year) has been proving more than a handful. Olivia Vesely was also upgraded to their AFLW team with good reason recently and we need to get on top of their Vesely/Drennan/Johnson midfield combination. Drennan in particular is a key as she is a prolific feeder through handball and brings others into the game. The Saints have height all over the ground which is a bit different to what we have faced so our pressure has to be right up there.

I fancy our chances in this game although the Saints are a tough unit to crack.

VFLW: Brennan and Chuot back for final round

Richmond AFLW-listed duo Katie Brennan and Akec Makur Chuot headline a number of big inclusions for the VFLW Tigers’ final round clash with the Southern Saints on Saturday.

The Tigers will head to the Saints’ home territory of Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval, Sandringham at 12.00pm to challenge the ladder leaders.

Richmond, who are currently placed fourth on the ladder, is likely to secure a spot in the top six and a resulting finals berth.

Superstar Brennan returns to bolster Richmond’s midfield following a six-week layoff.

Across her opening six games in the Yellow and Black, Brennan has averaged an impressive 22.5 disposals, five tackles and a goal per game.

Fellow AFLW-listed Tiger and athletic half-back Chuot also comes back into Richmond’s line-up after missing last Saturday’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Young guns Sophie Damon and Grace Egan will return for the clash, with experienced defender Laura Bailey also added to the mix.

Highly-rated Eastern Ranges player Emma Horne will make her debut as Richmond’s 23rd player.

Out of the side that were defeated by the Bulldogs by 43-points are Rachel Poke, Alana Woodward and Maddy Baldwin.

Tiger fans can follow live updates from Sandringham via the Richmond Women's InstagramandTwitter accounts.

You asked about Jac Graham the other day.
I notice she is named in the local releases this week meaning she isn't required for VFL and can play at lower level. She was named last week as a release as well but was missing for a couple of weeks before that so maybe she is just returning after injury.

Thanks for the info TigermanM2, should be available for finals hopefully
Like what she brings to our backline, experience and coolness in pressure situations
Wonder what's the go with lilish Ross and why she's not playing any games?(was in the background in the Kodi Jacques video)

Other than her AFLW announcement she hasn’t been spoken about at all. VFLW might not have been the plan.

I’m hoping Grace Campbell comes back for finals.

1-4 time
Saints 0-2-2
Richmond 0-1-1

Saints kicked with a strong breeze in the first quarter

Qtr time and it’s Saints 0.2.2 to Tigers 0.1.1

Tigers did well that quarter against the breeze so need to take advantage of that in the 2nd.

Just as importantly Pies lead Hawks by 17 points at HT.

Hawks lose and it doesn’t matter if we win or lose today, will be finals bound.

If i'm not mistaken and if i read properly, the finals make up is this

1 v 2
3 v 4
5 v 6

if this is the case then wouldn't it be better for us to finish 5th or 6th because a 4th place finish would put us into a clash with the dogs.

But surely its 3 v 6 and 4 v 5

Yep think so although a match up against Melb Uni will be just as tough.

Are you there bal? If so how do we look? I'm just listening on RSN
Yup. Seen Balmy is here as well.
We look much better than the previous game against the dogs. The wind is playing tricks with the girls.

Actually if Dogs win they finish 3rd so they would play 6th who will be either Hawks or Geelong. We seem destined to play Melb Uni

Just lost the lead after a great goal from the boundary. 19-23
Saints are pushing hard now.
