Our VFLW girls are having some kind of season. On top of the ladder, admittedly only one game clear with a couple of other clubs to catch up in terms of games played - but we have a whopping percentage of 243!

Opposite to AFW

Collingwood’s VFLW side has claimed another impressive win, taking a 74-point victory over the Western Bulldogs in Morwell on Saturday.

The triumph was the Pies' sixth win in a row.

It was all black and white from the very start with the Magpies snapping three goals to none in the opening quarter before continuing on to outscore the visitors in the remaining three terms.

The win was a credit to the Pies’ quick hands around the ball and outstanding kicking accuracy, both to teammates and at goal.

With the Pies taking a 42-point lead at the main break, Bulldog Lauren Dundon was quick to find the goals in the third but this would be the only major the Dogs would see for the match.

Four straight goals in the final quarter put the cherry on top for the Pies, allowing them to walk away victorious, 13.5 (83) to 1.3 (9).

Well done to the girls - future looks good.

Brilliant season indeed. It'll just give our AFLW girls the development they need. And experience.

IIRC our last VFLW season was also very solid? Didn’t we end the season top of the ladder?

We’ve had a lot of turnover and still doing well. Must be a great coaching panel.

I couldn't be sure. This is really the first year I've actually followed the girls in detail.

We were very good last year too 76, minor premiers, but couldn't go on with it.

Our coach is Penny Cula-Reid and from a distance, she seems to know what she's doing.

Fun fact about Penny (which you might not know) and taken directly from that reliable source, Wikipedia:

She was involved in a sex discrimination case when she and two other girls challenged the Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League and Football Victoria Ltd's rules that forbid girls from playing in mixed sex teams after the age of twelve. The case changed the rule from restricting girls from playing in the under 12s to the under 15s, which still prevented Cula-Reid from playing in mixed sex teams. She has been credited with "effectively forcing" AFL Victoria to create a youth girls competition. A documentary, Even Girls Play Footy, was made about the case.

I remember the case well, it got a lot of coverage in the media. So Penny is a game changer, literally, and very pleased that she is following her dreams with the Pies.

We finished top of the Ladder but Sh*t ourselves in the Finals and win out in Straight Sets

That looks like a different ground to the one our lads play a pre-season game at?
You're probably thinking of Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe, which is where we played a pre-season match in 2018. This years was in Morwell. Not sure why there was a change for 2019, possibly the state T20 game in late January?

Wouldn’t have helped that Chloe Malloy got injured on the eve of the finals.

Quite incredible that our VFLW team is top-of-the ladder with a percentage 243% - and yet our AFLW won the wooden spoon. Sure, the teams have many differences, but the contrast is stark.
