Chris25 I have looked at Knightmare top 25 on Fox and he doesn't have Roberston in his top 20 nor does he as an unlucky to miss player.

He won the lark medal and has strong leadership qualities. This is evident as he captained WA.

WA also one the state champs and no WA or other state bar Vic metro abd county featured in his top 10 picks.

Why do you think this is?

C'mon JMT. You know the answer that Chris will give to all of those questions.

Also, didn't Matt de Boer captain WA and get AA selection but go undrafted?

There was a discussion on bigfooty a while back exploring the success of players who have come into the AFL averaging less than a third contested possessions. From memory it wasn't a good sign for a long career.

I guess there are always anomalies but it hasn't worried Brad Hill. He was about as outside and uncontested as you could possibly get in his junior days.

I would like to know a bit more about Will Gould? But from the sounds of things he would be fairly similar to Luke Ryan and Griffin Logue?

Yeah he looks a terrific player that will honestly go close to rising star next year. 100% ready made but he's the last thing we need.

Very much plays like the two you mentioned

Who would people choose out of Dylan Stephens or Deven Roberston? And again but if Stephens was from WA and Robertson from SA? Who would our Fremantle recruitment team choose? And again, but if Brad Hill is still with Freo?

We have an abundance of inside mids, some don't even get a chance to play there already. Think you have answered
your own question regardless of state.
Inside mids, Fyfe, Mundy, Brayshaw, Cerra, Valente, Blakely, Crowden, Banfield.
Wingers SHill, BHill, Langdon, Giro.

A couple of add ins to your list, the last three probably the most relevant to the conversation.

Didn't get to see as much of Stephens as I did Robertson but I'd be on team Stephens at the moment. Chris reckons he can play inside and out and we definitely need players like that who can hit targets.

Stephens or Flanders I think should be in our sights given our current draft range. Maybe Kemp too.

My thoughts is that Knightmare is a very amateur watcher of talent.

He only goes by stats for SA and WA kids. Every year their always seems to be a massive like Robertson.

I read and listen a bit of about draft and I don’t find Knightmare that creditable.

Our Chris is an expect on SA footy and Slice of Pie and some of the posts on BF are way better than Knightmare.

Yea haven’t seen as much as Stephens as Robertson but for what we need Stephens all day long.
Also agree with Flanders. Think Williams is another, plus I still like sharp- if he slides to our second I’d be stoked.
Especially if we pick up one of the aforementioned with our first.

Personally hoping we end up with at east 3 picks in the top 30.
Which considering potential trades end of the year is a very realistic chance
Real good opportunity to round out the rebuild and set us up for some sustained success.

Chris, has your opinion of the 2019 crop changed after the carnival?

This is a very shallow analysis and I'm only working on a small sample, but would it be fair to say that the overall skill level this carnival is down from last year?

I know the SA team last year was pretty special but I had a distinct impression of their output last year, compared to Vic Country & WA this year.

Over the entire carnival goals were down by 36, 2019 goal accuracy down to 48% from 52% the year before. Do you attribute that to a combination of the lack of quality forward & better defender depth as you said in the OP?

I have a baseless feeling that there will be a few non-apparent gems in this draft between 10-50, especially in the back half of the field.

There were basically no key forwards in any of the 5 teams. Yet every team had good key defenders and a handful of half backs. So I think that contributed to both the lack of scoring and the overall skill level. Just nobody to kick it to.

The Fox Sports top 25 is Matt Balmer? Another BigFooty poster.

I personally have Robertson at 16, and I see Twomey has him at 14. Mid to late first round seems about right for me. I don't have any WA in my top 10 either, but I do have 4 in the 10-20 range. I think they won because of their game plan and they had solid players across the board, not because they had elite top 10 talent.

I'd be going Stephens every day. He'll be better than Langdon in the long term for me.

I wouldn't mind 3 East picks as well, which ones? Jackson, Sharp, Rivers, Ruscoe😉

What’s the point of talking about player x sliding to our second.

The aim should be getting Henry after our first rounder whether we trade it for Kelly or not.

I'll let other people comment on that. ;)

Chances of Kemp making it to 8-10?

Probably anywhere from 3 to 10 at the moment. Not sure I'd be taking him, I don't think he'll be a midfielder. But I also thought Patrick Cripps was just a bad kick who was lucky to have a growth spurt. Probably true, but I was also probably a little off there.

Because no matter what, he ll be at freo next year , regardless of what picks we have.
So discussion naturally surrounds what other players we may end up with

Point I’m trying to make is Liam Henry should be our second selection (assuming our first isn’t traded). If he is we probably have two mid to late first rounders rather than a first and a second. If that does happen it’s unlikely, at this stage we’d be having a pick until at least the third round after that.

And if he’s bidded on much earlier than we rate him at (and the discount doesn’t cover it) I hope we overlook him if the club thinks that’s what’s best for the club.

Look at some of the downgrades from last to gain more points.

North gained 204 points from downgrading pick 31. Pick 31 turned into points equalling to pick 23.

not really for points but saints gained 156 points

Collingwood gained 45 points

Now if downgrade our second round pick for a surplus points and do another downgrade, then we will have enough points for Henry if you goes 12-15.

Thoughts on Flanders Chris25 and specifically how he compares to Stephens?

I think Flanders is primarily a forward at the top level, with some stints in the midfield. Sort of like a Tom Papley from Sydney. Ball winning and his overhead marking are his strengths. If we got another first in the 8-15 range, I'd be considering him.

Are you talking up Sumich here? Genuine question, not looking to have a crack or troll.
