Callum Jamieson is shaping up to be this year’s WA draft bolter.

The 200cm ruck-forward from Claremont has rocketed up the draft calculations on the back of a breakout year at WAFL colts and national under-18s levels.

The majority of the ruck talk out west is about former basketballer and under-18 All-Australian Luke Jackson, but at least one interstate AFL recruiter believes Jamieson could also squeeze into the national draft’s top 30.

The 19-year-old got the Tigers over the line in last Sunday’s five-point qualifying final win over West Perth in Joondalup, amassing a career-high 28 disposals, 15 hit-outs, six marks and six tackles in the wet.

“In wet conditions on Sunday, normally ruckmen might be a little bit quieter but he stepped up,” WAFC state talent manager Adam Jones said.

“His performances have really improved throughout the year, there’s some really good signs for him and I reckon he’s a really exciting prospect.

“We didn’t get to showcase him in the ruck as much as we would’ve liked (in the championships) because of Luke’s dominance, but he’s really showing what he’s capable of in the colts.”

One of 16 West Aussies invited to the national draft combine in October, Jamieson also showed promise during his three games at the championships as a tall forward/back-up ruckman to Jackson.

Several other draft prospects will line up in the WAFL colts today as the Falcons and Royals clash while Peel face Claremont.

Really like Jamieson but from what I've seen I wouldn't take him top 30. If we have a pick 50-60 and he's available I'm taking him

Would be interesting if he had more ruck exposure and to compare to Jackson

That is a huge game from Thorne. Stats can be deceptive but 3 goals 2 on top of 25 possies plus god knows how many other score involvements must have him rise on most clubs rankings.
Yeah had some OK numbers when he played league in the last few rounds. Pushed Bennell out of the side Very slight in frame though.

Hopefully, the NGA rule comes in this draft.

Under the new rules, Thorne becomes a NGA after pick 40.
Think that’s meant to come in next year onwards.
