Well the SPL kicks off it’s new season tonight with Celtic gunning for a record 10th in a row. Really feel it will be a question of by how much over Rangers.
Hopefully Aberdeen can do enough to claim the bronze medal. At the other end of the table I suspect The Accies and Saints to really struggle this season.

Tonight
Aberdeen v Rangers
Dundee United v St Johnstone
Hibs v Kilmarnock
St Mirren v Livingston
Monday
Celtic v Hamilton Academical
Tuesday
Motherwell v Ross County

Really keen to see how Hagi Jr. fares at Rangers this season. Shone in bits and parts while on loan, but hopefully he can develop some consistency + be played in the right spots.

Ross Laidlaw, Ross Doohan and Ross Munro. There are two other Ross's as well, Ross Draper and Ross Stewart. None with the surname Ross though, which is interesting because Easter Ross (the region in Scotland where the town of Dingwall is located) is where the surname originated.

Ross County don't play Celtic, Rangers or Aberdeen until after round six, hopefully we can get off to a good start and give us some early breathing space from the relegation battle.

Another win for the Staggies and another clean sheet as well.

Conceded 60 goals in only 30 games last season so it's good to see some improvement early this season. 20 of those goals were in 6 games against Celtic and Rangers so the real test will be when we come up against the Old Firm, but early signs are positives.

The Arabs had a good win over Ross County 2-1.Just watched the highlights both teams had lots of chances.

It's been a relatively positive start to the season for Ross County, but we didn't take advantage of the consecutive home games against clubs that will probably be battling with us mid-table (or lower) over the course of the season. The 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock and 2-1 loss to Dundee United are not great results when trying to build an early gap between us and the relegation battle.

Our next two game are away at St Mirren (currently 5th) and Livingston (10th), we need points in both games before a big 4 games against Celtic (H), St Johnstone (A), Aberdeen (H) and Rangers (A). Last season we went 1-3-8 against them, scoring just 8 goals and conceding 31. And the three draws were against St Johnstone.

anyone else really like Hibs shaking it up as a bit of a gamble? pretty unified team, bit of experience together, can see them having a good season which'd be good for the game.

300 Staggies will be allowed into Victoria Park this weekend to watch Ross County take on Celtic. They must remain in their assigned seats at all times and they are not allowed to sing, chant or shout at the players. Sounds exciting. :)

Aberdeen are also allowed 300 fans to attend their match.

I was wondering what you people think would be the standard of a team in bottom half of Scottish Premiership (say St Mirren) if they were in Australia? How would they go against a top Victorian Premier League or NSWPL club?

they'd flog a state team and probably be in the top few A-League teams.

The top four team have already broken clear, the remaining teams look like they are going to be in a season long fight to the death to stay out the bottom two spots. Could be a very interesting season.

As for the Staggies, the positive start to the season didn't go exactly to plan, eight points from our first six games was a good start and shows we are more than competitive against a majority of the league, but a 5-0 thrashing at home to Celtic proved once again that we can't compete at all with the top teams. We have St. Johnstone next and it is vitally important we get at least one point there, because the follwoing three games are against Aberdeen, Rangers and Hibernian.

Rangers off to a seriously impressive start having yet to concede a goal. The title race could be a close one this year.

I think it's the travel that would the greatest obstacle they would need to overcome, I'm sure they would be better than a State League team and more than competitive in the A-League, but the fortnightly travel between Scotland and Australia would be too much over the course of the season. :)
