2020 AFL Crowds & Ratings Thread

Would have thought at least 100k in Adelaide and Perth. Perth went from 138k last Friday to 82k.

The NRL has zero profile in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. It's not comparable.

Sorry I thought it was the NATIONAL Rugby League that their Chairman said needed to be allowed to play because it was biggest and the most popular sport in the country!

2.039m watcched for at least a minute nationally. The average is taken over 15 minute intervals.
This data was not supplied for the AFL.

NRL Reach data comes from 9PR, 7PR doesnt always supply it, especially on saturdays

I call that BS watching for 1 minute is not a real ratings number and distorts the figure in the RLs favour!
I bet the advertisers don't rely on those figures,You can't watch many ads in only one minute!

If that is the case the AFL would most likely have 5 million.

Ratings are reported in 3 figures - Reach, peak and average. Most of what we see as "ratings" is the average. Reach and Peak are measured data just as much as the other, but generally only reported by PR and sporting bodies as its a larger figure. Every station and sporting body does this. Thanks for the explanation Wookie.

No 1 show overall CH 7 yesterday! It will be interesting to see how the Pay TV figures come up.
Both the AFL Pre match and Match easily beat the RL on capital city FTA.
RL basically only has decent numbers in NSW and QLD.

Not surprised by the Geelong v Coll crowd. Both teams have a massive fanbase up here.

The earlier starts are nice for Saturday games but suck for Fridays.

AFL
Saturday night’s SF#1 between Geelong and Collingwood attracted a cumulative audience of 395K across the Foxtel Group, (pay-tv 286k) (streaming 109k). The result made it the highest rating match of the Week 2 Finals round and was up 6% on the corresponding Saturday night fixture last season (Brisbane v GWS).

Sevens Free-To-Air coverage of the match averaged 1.126mil (865k metro). This puts the final combined FTA+FoxFooty audience for the game at 1.521 million.

Friday night’s SF#2 between Richmond and St Kilda attracted a cumulative audience of 383K across Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Foxtel GO and Kayo. This result was up 2% on the corresponding Friday night fixture last season (Geelong v West Coast).

Sevens Free-To-Air coverage of the match averaged 1.043mil (802k metro). This puts the final combined FTA+FoxFooty audience for the game at 1.426 million.

Comprehensive wins both nights to the AFL esp on FTA!

As expected both prelims sold out rather quick. Do we have any idea on capacity of both venues for this weekend?
Looking at the Gabba, they have seats on sale this week that were previously locked off for the QF. Instead of 6 entire rows in the top tier being off limits there’s now only 2 so I imagine 30,000 will be the figure for the PF

and there is a push for the GF to be at capacity as only 2 active COVID cases in the whole state

AFL Preliminary Final
Port Adelaide v Richmond
1,723,000
Seven 1,386,000 (Metro 1,087,000 Regional 299,000)
Fox Footy 337,000

NRL Preliminary Final
Storm v Raiders
1,224,000
Nine 891,000 (Metro 550,000 Regional 341,000)
Fox League 333,000

A massive 500,000 win for the AFL. CH 7 would be rapt as it was also #1 on the night and it augers and well for tonight!

Ch 9 wouldnt be happy with 87,000 in Melbourne on their main channel - reruns of Hogans Hero's would get no more than that in prime time!

Bogan motor mouth V'Landys seems to be very quiet on the TV ratings subject lately!

Storm only rated 87,000 in Melbourne last night. Fair to say those are disappointing figures. Ironically, the port v richmond game last night rated 83,000 in Brisbane (despite their being no Brisbane team).

That's amazing that the AFL almost had more viewers in Brisbane (on 7 mate?) than the Storm game did in Melbourne and certainly would have had higher peak / reach!

Other thing to remember is that daylight saving time starts would be dragging down average ratings in perth which is evident looking at the numbers

Yeah, the game started at 4:50 over here. That works on a Saturday, but not a Friday.

It is mildly funny that Port v Richmond got pretty much the same audience in Brisbane on 7mate as the Storm did in Melbourne on 9's main channel. It's why the AFL shouldn't be comparing themselves to NRL ratings outside heartland states. It's setting the bar way too low.

But it's not really a bar so much as a reference point. There are no really relevant bars/benchmarks as the AFL in Brisbane and even Sydney has no comparator really.

We can also point out that last night's AFL game got almost half the NRL game on the main channel (and played in Queensland with a pseudo queensland team) in Brisbane. Again, reference point.

But it shouldn't be. You look at Perth and Adelaide NRL numbers and they're pretty much zero - pointing to them is not a valid response to AFL numbers in Brisbane and Sydney. If the AFL gets crap numbers in Sydney lets say, coming back with "Hurr durr look at the 2000 people that watched NRL in Adelaide" doesn't make them any better.
