2020 AFL Draft - how will it work?

That's probably worse for any club doing a rebuild.

All 2020 picks suddenly lose value - someone who is top ten this year becomes top 20 in a combined 2021 draft. Therefore, the premier gets the equivalent of a top 10 pick, and instead of a bottom side getting a couple of goes at an early pick, they only get one.

I think a reduced draft makes sense. Gives the lower teams two or three speculative bites at the cherry this year (probably from retired players) and the overflow players roll into 2021. Any points earned for 2020 that aren't used roll into 2021.

What should they do? Pay back they money they earned when they WERE working? Not be paid once the game is back being played again?

The cash flow issue is during the business closure. You can't start being pissed off they were previously paid for ore season training.

And they won't be taking any pay cut for the money they earned last year. Not one cent!

I'm saying they don't get paid for the next 8 weeks. As a bare minimum, they get nothing for the next 4 weeks (i.e. they are on unpaid leave like the rest of the industry - well those who have kept their jobs), and then get 25% for the second month while they are 'training'. Then on the off chance the season gets going again, they look at the top line v pcp and the expenses should be reduced accordingly

Not if they raise the draft age by one year - each batch of draftees would be drafted a year later than they would have.

The current situation is perfect if they seriously want to raise the draft age. Each draftee could finish off school in their final year without the distraction of the draft over their heads.

Would our draftees mandatory season in the SANFL be carried over a year further?

Surely they just delay it to January next year - gives time to still run the U/18 champs.

If I had to guess it's because most of the talent is always from Victoria, so this gives them an advantage.

Next time we see Stiffy we'll know why he's talking with a squeaky voice....:eek:

I would seriously doubt that given families are usually present, the interviews are as much about sussing out the family/background etc as the player, most of the highly rated lads have been in the AFL/State Academies for a couple of years where the recruiters have plenty of access to the players anyhow.

Exactly...so why block them? It's a great way to give the poor Vic clubs a bit of a leg up
